The perfect time to raise will be upon the announcement we are joining the Big East. And when that doesn't happen they should wait a few years for yet another letdown to pass.
-
MIght be in SLU's interest if the A10 started looking to the Midwest. SLU will be quite the outpost when Pittsburgh is the closest conference foe. Could make for a nice road trip. Can stop in Dayton to catch a BE game on the way to Duquesne.
-
SLU went from a maybe in a 10 team league to a lock in a 12 team league back to a maybe in a 12 team league. The trends are bad. I believe RIchmond is in and it is between SLU and Dayton. And Dayton can actually fill a building. This does not bode well. Anyone for a 16 team league?

My bad - I should have referred to THE University of Phoenix rather than Phoenix University.

Credit Ratings? Cash Flow/Debt Ratio? Operating Results? Net Assets? Very impressive stuff from our corporate CFO...I mean academic and priest.
In all seriousness, the huge disconnect between Biondi and the faculty becomes apparent when you understand that he operates and speaks in the world of big business and the faculty lives and speaks in the world of philosophy and letters. Personally, I am very, very impressed by this report; however, I am guessing it is meaningless to much of the faculty. The faculty believe they are the university and are irreplaceable; this report tells me that the university is financially positioned to thrive in the future and can afford to replace the malcontents.
The runaway costs of higher education can be attributed to many things. The increased leverage provided by our government, academics that bemoan the loss of any dept/chair/etc. in a host of arcane subjects, poor business models (egads - even the thoughts of thinking of education as a business are taboo), etc. I am not at all surprised that for-profit advanced education has gained an increased share. Many of the instructors at these "diploma mills" have day jobs at respected institutions. Phoenix University could be the model for the future - but lo and behold, a "regional accreditation review team" has trumped up some charges that this rising Phoenix has "insufficient autonomy" from its corporate parent (private equity Apollo Group) that may prevent the university from achieving its "mission and successful operation." I found this wildly ironic. Many think Biondi operates with too much autonomy. If only a corporate parent could rein him in AND FIND A FREAKIN WAY TO GET US IN THE BIG EAST!!!

I could give a shat who the next coach is if they miss out on the BE. And folks let's remember this is Crews we are talking about. Not the second coming of RM.
-
I just hope he can coach since we do not have one
-
In a tangential note, don't you think that some NFL team might take a chance on drafting an athlete like Jordair in the 2014 draft? He sure as hell looks like a great football player, doesn't he? A 6-2 slot receiveer with mad hops and bone crushing strength?
gimme a break......

Crews was at Wash Ave establishment this morning with recruit. Any idea who this may have been?
-
Can we stop talking all this crap about next year and focus on the new Big East or Catholic 7 or whatever. That is the most important thing right now. Not the HC or Manning's "potential" or recruits...........Get in the new league and all these things will take care of themselves (except for the Manning thing). If not, we'll shortly be looking for the next miracle worker (Majerus) to rescue the the program from oblivion.
-
Marshall from Wich St. Of course not sure he'd leave for an A-10 SLU. But for a Big East SLU, certainly. Hopefully we'll get some good news by July.
-
If the league expands to 12 I believe it will be either SLU or Dayton, not both. The 12th team will be in the east, perhaps Richmond. Really looking forward to building that rivalry against Duquesne. Road tripping to Pittsburgh - joy!
-
Chris May will be collateral damage if SLU is left out of the Big East. Yes, quite unfair but ADs are judged by such things. College president's too, but I think we can all agree that Biondi is not worried about building his resume.

come on put Jett's socks back in the game.....
-
So how many teams make it from the A10? Three? Four?
-
I heard he was with keith carter

When your band is bigger than your student section you know your marketing effort needs work. I always remember the talk of how an on campus arena would bring the students out. I have no idea how many students show up but does anyone know how many the student section can accommodate? 500?
And that $2 beer rumor needs its own topic. That is the best news about the program in months.

I wish Crews all the best this year.....as long as he is not back next year. It will be hard enough to recover from the recruiting void we are currently facing, made all the more difficult with the loss of our top freshman.
-
I just want a coach that can create some excitement, much the way RM did when his hire was announced. That may be wishful thinking but it is what this program needs. RM may have been irascible and quite the odd duck but he had charisma. I don't see these kids playing for Crews like they did for RM. As the A10 draws near we'll see how well this team jells. There are some disturbing signs. Loe has severely stepped back and is in a deep funk. Ellis is inconsistent and his best attribute is an uncanny ability to draw a charge. If only he could show the same toughness on the other side of the floor. Carter leaving may be the canary in the coal mine. Losing your top freshman is never good but especially bad when you have a dearth of frosh and sophomore talent. Let's hope KM steps up and has a big year. We're going to need it. He can make everyone on the floor better.

Aside from winning cures all ills, our basketball program has not been creating excitement. 5,000 to 7,000 to watch a game is just not good. Not having a regular radio or tv show has hurt the program. Having an administration which is at odds with the basketball coach has not been good. RM would have turned things around. We needed 2 more years. We didn't get it.
Now, we are back to square 1.
The hard truth! As for Rickma not clicking with Ramsey that just raised my already elevated opinion of Rickma.

The best coaches work the refs. Does it work? Who knows. But would love to see Crews at least try.
