  1. Luck, in Pomeroy's analysis, is not really how often you win close games. "Luck" is how much better or worse your record is different compared to what it would be using just offensive and defensive efficiency and possessions. Dayton is then "lucky" in Pomeroy sense not by winning close games, although that comes in, but by not being that great offensively and yet grinding out wins.

the Flyers beat Fordham by 1 point at home when Lowry drove the length of the court to win at the buzzer. They beat GW when Colonials were foud to have 6 players on the court in the final minute of a one point game. Yes, they were lucky in some games. But that says nothing about next year's likely success. Flyers lose one player from this team. They get Lowry back from his mid-season injury. Their talent level should go up; maybe they will win as many but by larger margins.
  2. Is this available for download in a podcast form?

It would be great if SLU coordinate with the radio station and got an mp3 of the radio show. Each week in their Billiken update they could send out the link...imagine that promoting your team.

PHILADELPHIA - Phil Martelli's "HawkTalk" radio show will broadcast its final show of the year tonight, March 9, from The Boulevard Grille and Catering in Havertown, Pa., from 6 to 7 p.m. It will be broadcast on WNTP (990 AM).

Martelli and co-host Joe Lunardi will discuss the Hawks and the upcoming Atlantic 10 Tournament. They will take phone calls from listeners (call in number is 877-990-WNTP (9687)) and questions from the audience at The Boulevard.

The show can also be heard free of charge via audio streaming on www.sjuhawks.com.

  3. There is NO way, repeat NO way that Dayton or Xavier will join the current or reconstituted Missouri Valley. The current A10, even with GW and Bonnies, is a better basketball conference, a better fit of schools, and a better geography (for travel and alumni base, except for Chicago--but Loyola is not worth it.)

  4. At first I thought you meant THE OZ, like Eastside. Got a good chuckle thinking about KL and TL in high school, over there at the OZ getting their amateur scream metal groove on and flirting with off-the-clock strippers. In walks Brad Soderberg, Matt Foley style and tells them how they can "get back on the right track!"

I enjoyed the student's shouting at the referee early in 2nd half: "You're so bad, you make Joey DeMayo look good." Xavier, Dayton, and SLU fans could all enjoy that one.
  5. I can't imagine a more entertaining radio show. He provides great insight to the bills and also talks about so many other random things.

You should check out Martelli's Karnak routine. His whole show is a joke. He and Lunardi do a great routine. Phil interviews the team bus driver, fans, opposing coaches--all tongue in cheek.
  6. St Joe's facilities should look pretty good after the renovations.

Funny, Dr. Gianni, coach of LaSalle, is doing an outstanding job of recruiting while Martelli, with all its better facilities and fan support, has been kind of dead in the water recruiting wise the last few years. Gianni, taking advantage of that recruit rich No. New Jersey area, will probably have at least a top 3 A10 recruiting class.

how can you say SJU has better facilities than LaSalle? They don't. And Giannini has had far fewer St. Anthony's players than Martelli.
  7. Not me, I love when the Bills lose. It's my favorite thing.

    I think it's pretty obvious R.B is a joke.

I thought Bills played very hard and agressively last night. UD Arena is a tough place for visitors. But I was surprised by how little they had offensively. Dayton plays very aggressive D and Bills had no answer. Lisch and Liddell do not look like the players they were two years ago. It could have a different outcome when the teams meet in SL on 2/21.
