  1. I get that Roy but X should be our hated rival. We shouldn't be talking on this board about how bad we feel for them, etc, etc. People look up to X like they're our cool, older brother. We should wish bad things for them. So what if they're down for a while. As long as we take care of our business, that's all that counts.

These guys would rather see MU lose their coach than XU.
  2. You have to look at the economics if you bring it into the argument. SLU takes in about $175K per game in tix revenue - give or take and this does not include parking and concessions. We need to have enough games at home to take advantage of this tix revenue. Giving up a home game for a home and home with a team like Belmont actually costs us money - we could play two buy games and end up with more money then only getting one home game out it. By the way, this $80K for a buy game that is being thrown around is not totally accurate - from stuff I have seen even on this board, $80K is possible to pay but generally the cost is more in the $50K range therefore we probably make well over $240K for two home games rather than the $175K we get for our home attendance and nothing for the away game - plus we have the expense of going to the away game.

Do you want SLU to become $LU?
  3. Crowd was around 2500 which made the stadium look really weird. Quite a few students. ****** Mcgrouche usher wanted to throw me out in about the 2nd inning he was uptight I wasn't saying anything obscene. It is free to go to games on campus. It was very annoying that Missouri was the home team for a game played in St. Louis. Since Missouri was the home team the umpires were big 12, I think Joe Demayo was umping third base. :P

I thought bills fans only blamed refs in basketball.
  4. I really don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised. After all, Brian Conklin is from Oregon.

I see. Kinda like when join the A10 we will start getting recruits from the east coast. Once we get kids from the east we can start to schedule Big East schools. Soon we won't have to schedule the Big East, because half of it is going to break away to form a Catholic Conference with us.
  5. Same argument, different thread. There are a bunch of problems doing home and homes with teams with RPIs between 100 and 150, which is where Belmont typically falls.

    1) There is a very good chance we can lose the road game. Our road record has been awful since the beginning of time. Losing to a team ranked between 100 and 150 can be disaster.

    2) Even if you do win all these games it does little to impress the committee. They are looking for reasons to keep non-BCS teams out of the dance and unless you win ALL these home and homes they are going to take the 1 or two losses and hold it against you. Since we probably don't have any wins against the real big boys we are stuck in that world where getting in the top 40 of the RPI doesn't mean crap, you have to get into the top 30 to really feel safe.

    3) Given our t.v. situation there is little chance I'll get to see the road game in Belmont. I'd rather play Samford twice at home and sit in my seats on Saturday night watching the Bills then trying to find some choppy internet stream like the detroit game this year.

    4) If this really is a home and home its yet another signal that we aren't going to get a big name home and homes started up soon. We wouldn't "waste" a home and home on a 100-150 type team if we thought we were getting top 50 teams any time soon.

Other than NashvilleBilliken, I can't understand why any poster would be excited to start up a home and home series with Belmont.

I hate to say it, but I agree with Roy. We can't worry about losing a run game to the likes of Belmont. We need to plan on winning those games. The win may not impress the tourney committee, but should help the RPI.

I don't think the bills should be scheduling to please your ability to watch the game.

I don't see any home and homes bigger than say Mo St or SIU in the near future.

  6. I think Anderson is probably staying put now since Mizzou came though, but I will agree with Roy that Memphis is still more of a power-house basketball school than the majority of BCS schools. Memphis and the area around it have a concentration of big-time talent, the area loves hoops, and they have a tradition. It is weird that they stayed in CUSA after there breakup, but that is driven by football more than hoops.

That is why I think Rickma makes more sense that the flavor of the month Anderson
  7. even bill laurie in his walmart prime wasnt the benefactor/helper that fred smith is at memphis.

It's not like anyone is offering $10,000,000. Once you have 10 mil 1 or 2 doesn't make a difference.
  8. what memphis has to offer is basically an open checkbook. huge salary bump and the backing to do basically WHATEVER a coach wants to do thereafter. we dream of a fred smith.

That is what he has at Old Mizzou, but in a big time conf.

  9. what makes anderson's new deal ironclad? if memphis still wants him, i am sure there is a penalty for leaving columbia, but some old cotton plantation and sugar cane family will pay it.

i would say tiger fans can breath easier, but until the merry go round stops spinning completely, i wouldnt go to sleep yet. there is no doubt mike anderson is the flavor of the month and it isnt over yet.

I think Rickma would be a better fit for memphis than Anderson. He could get some big time recruits and games that he can't get at SLU and that Anderson can't get.

I think Cal was a better coach than Memphis is a program. It is in a crappy non-bsc conference. I'm not saying Mizzou has a better b-ball history, but I think it is a better job.
  11. Congrats to Doc. That is quite impressive. I had a couple of nice wagers on UConn and one for Nova for quite a bit of ice cream. Needless to say it was a sweet weekend! Some of the pretenders fell by the wayside and we are left with a really good Final Four.

I thought MSU and the Vill were the pretenders and they made it.
