  1. I don't think SLU has any real MLB "prospects" that are seniors. However, the MLB draft is 50 rounds, so there is a very good possibility that some of the seniors get picked up in the later rounds. However, they would likely just kick around the minors for a few years as organizational filler.

Grant Nelson should be in the top 10 rounds. Wouldn't surprise me

  2. some of you amaze me. where do you think the money to build a lighted baseball stadium will come from? baseball doesnt even come close to generating the revenue to fund what we have now without spending A LOT of money building a new baseball field. while i understand what we have doesnt compare to a miami (FL) or omaha or oklahoma state or texas facility, it isnt even close to the bottom of the barrel. some of you need to do a little traveling about and see what the typical top 100 program has in the way of facilities.

i would guess state of the art lights, top of the line drainage and turf system, seating for say 1000+ with plumbing and concession included would probably run near a million dollars mimimum. we cant raise the needed money via boosters for our basketball program. what makes you think we can get a project like this done? find us a baseball chaifetz or get serious about the reality of funding our baseball team facilities beyond what we got.

I think you need to do a little traveling. I have gotten a chance to go out and see a lot of college baseball and the facilities are getting a lot nicer. The fact of the matter is if you want to be good in every sport you have. If building a facility is going to help ensure that Hendrickson stays and helps improve the chances of landing better recruits, than I want to do it. The fact is what this staff has done with what they have is truly remarkable. That field is good for a high school program. They have no indoor place and they have zero clubhouse. From what I hear they have a locker room that is good enough to fit 10 people. Also where is the press box? We either want to be good or we don't. Clearly you don't

  3. Granderson is donating 5 million to UIC for a new stadium. But I stand by what I say, if you build a stadium with food and allow beer then students will come. I also think they would adjust by making midweek games at night if they had a stadium. Charlotte is a good example of an A10 school who draws good crowds. Hendrickson has built something here but the school needs to get it together.

  4. I don't think anyone has posted this yet,

Here is a link to the NCAA baseball "bracket"

The way baseball works is that #4 SLU plays a double-elimination tournament with the 3 other teams in their "pod" (#1 South Carolina, #2 Clemson, #3 Liberty). The winner of this would advance to the "super regionals" for a best of 3 series against the winner of the North Carolina pod (#1 UNC, #2 FL Atlantic, #3 Towson, #4 Canisus). The super regional is roughly equivalent to the sweet 16 in basketball. The winners of the super regionals go on to the "college world series" in Omaha. The CWS is an 8 team double elimination tournament. Although it involves 8 teams, the CWS is roughly equivalent to the final four in hoops in terms of the excitement around it.

The chances of SLU making the CWS are very slim, but it would be tremendously positive for the baseball program and the school if they were to do so. Having been to the CWS in the past despite not caring about any of the teams in it, I would definitely go again if SLU made the field. The CWS is a crazy party atmosphere with massive amount of tailgating and whatnot.

If they were "hypothetically" in the CWS, they would be the fan favorite. The locals always pull for the underdog, granted it would be semi close to home we would have a good fan base out there. Needless to say it would be big if the Bills could win 1-2 games in a regional.

  5. How often do baseball coaches move for better jobs? I don't follow college baseball outside of what's posted here about the billikens, but one has to think that what Hendrickson has done on limited resources would get some interest from a more prominent D1 team.

Don't be surprised if he gets big offers this off season
