  1. -"I don't know why he left SIU-Carbondale, but in talking to him he knows that he has to come in here and do very well in order to get back to the NCAA Division I level. He seems determined to do that."

-i find that a very interesting quote from the swic coach, can that be true?

Roundtree didn't leave on his own he was asked to leave because he was a cancer. As voted on by his team mates including Booker.

  2. I am well aware that SLU has very few natural rivalries, much less ones that generate any interest locally, especially in a down year like this.

Still I've had enough. SIUC and the valley as a whole play junk basketball. The Valley refs let them play it that way so more power to them. I wish SLU had a home court advantage like SIUC does.

Even in a good year can we go down to carbondale and win? Probably not. So why continue this series if it isn't fair?

This is how the valley has decided to play. It isn't basketball though. Why reward them by going there to play? Xavier ended their series with Creighton for that very reason. Why play somewhere where rules are thrown out the window, you have little chance of winning, and a good chance that one of your players gets hurt.

They were a10 refs u boob!!!!!!!!! How does crow taste?

  3. my wife and I have gone to Carbondale games away in the past and they have the type of home atmosphere we would like to have at Chaifetz and they do seem to get home cooking when it comes to the refs they used in the past.

I would rather beat Carbondale with their center not hurt. We don't want any excuses if we do get a win.

If we play like we did against Kent State and Boston College and if we cut down on unrecgonzied passes we should be all right.

I hope the kid recovers in time fkor SIU to win their league and possibly we can meet them in post season play.

Talk to me after the game

  4. The key is obviously how much the freshmen can contribute and how soon.

There are only four players returning, so you need a couple freshmen to step up. They all have different skills they bring to the table, but its safe to say the key guys are Kwamain Mitchell, Ruben Cotto, Brett Thompson and Brian Conklin. Mitchell and Cotto both have experience that, I think, can ease their transition to D-1 hoops at the point guard spot. Mitchell seems like a good fit for this team as an unselfish pass-first PG who can push the ball and attack in transition (rather than pulling it out to re-set the offense.) Cotto should be one of the better shooters on the team, but he'll have to do the other things (defense, ballhandling) to get more minutes to be able to take shots. Thompson has obviously much-needed size and the skills to fit well in the Majerus system, but he's going to have to be ready to contribute right away. Nobody knows much about Conklin except that he was a highly successful high school player, but his size alone (taller than Barry, heavier than Willie Reed) makes him a logical choice to get minutes. Barry Eberhardt and Conklin are going to have to split up minutes at the power forward spot or as part of a post rotation that includes Thompson and maybe Reed.

Reed was a project when they signed him and he still is. I think he can contribute some, but he still needs to get stronger to make more of an impact. He has a chance to be one of the more dynamic big men in the A-10, but he's got work to do first. I believe Femi John is physically ready to contribute, but he's blocked at the shooting guard spot behind Kevin Lisch and Paul Eckerle (unless Eckerle plays PG, with Cotto playing SG). John does some things well, but just doesn't shoot it from the perimeter as well as some of the other options (like Cotto). Kyle Cassity is in the same boat as John in terms of being blocked, either at shooting guard or small forward. Like Reed, he needs to get stronger, but his solid all-around game could earn him minutes and make him a valuable asset.

The other key to this season will be the play of Lisch and Tommie Liddell. They are going to have a lot on their shoulders, but as seniors (and Tommie essentially a fifth-year senior) they should be able to step up and lead this team. Those two should be able to carry the youngsters to victory in some of those cupcake games and should be good enough to keep the Billikens in most of the tougher games on the schedule.

This team will only go as far as Lisch and Liddell take them.

Femi John rebound and defend those are the two things he can't do. Of your freshman I think at the end of the year he will make the best transition. I have seen him play 25 or 30 times he will be a great get in the end and BT will be the biggest best in the history of SLU basketball.

  5. slu 72 said, "KL has to be more of a threat from three point range. Other than him, I don't know who else will do it."

i replied with, " slu72, i like your thoughts, but i would like to point out that kevin lisch currently is already fourth on the all time 3 pointer list. barring something unforseen or tragic, he will end up second all time in made threes.

i.e. i dont know how much more you can ask of lisch to go up."

so not sure where the percentage made comes into play in my reply. show me where in my three sentence reply i made a reference about percentage of three's made? i was all about number of threes made which to me would answer slu72's point about being more of threat.

now if you perceive percentage made with who was the biggest three point threat last year, kevin would have finished third on the team behind danny brown and bryce husak last year. i dont think any one else thought of either danny or bryce as our biggest three point threat last year though.

If your expecting BT to play more than 10 mpg and think that slu is going to win more than 10 games your delusional.

  6. I have never seen BT play. Nonetheless, I'd suggest that he is more ready to log 25-30 than BH was last year.

I always second guessed Brad and RM as to why did not have an oxygen tank on the sidelines for BH. Two trips up and down the floor, BH needed to come out. Without a stoppage of play, I feared for BH's safety - and that was after BH bulked up that redshirt year and then was groomed for 3 years under IV.

You my friend are in for a huge shock when you see how overrated BT really is!

  7. oh i see, you dont want to answer your wrongness on harrelson by deflecting to my comments on rickma's non-civility in the past. got it. btw, does a man hide behind a fake name like big bills fan?

You guys sound like a bunch of school girls fighting over a guy that everyone likes but he doesn't like you. Most of your fan base are very smart and bright. But Brian and Roy have continued to show that they have no clue!!!

  8. He is little more than a lying rat. He used the people of St Louis and he used Bernie. I hope Bernie rips him and whoever contacted Bernie about his "plight" a new one. His backing out at WIU probably cost DT, a good guy and who was one of few who believed in him originally, his job. Screw him. I hope he rides the bench down there.

I feel dirty for wanting this kid in the first place. All that talk about his family being the reason why he wanted out at WIU was a lie. There maybe a family situation, but that had nothing to do with him wanting out of WIU.

You my friend are a class act the kid made the best choice for him and his family You know what.......Screw Brian!!!

  9. Good point. Furthermore, SLU already has its 4s and 5s for JHs Jr and Sr year with BT, WR, and BC. The probability of getting recruited over are significantly less at SLU than at UK. I'm not saying that circumstances can't change, but JH knows what's at play at SLU. I don't know what UK has on board and how many 4s and 5s they will need in the next 3 years, but it can't be any more favorable for him than what he has at SLU. Moreover, JH has less room for error than kids coming out of HS. He has already essentially lost one year. If a UK decision turns out to be a mistake, his options are limited. The riskier choice is UK.

It comes down to who and where do you want to play? Of course your gonna say SLU because the blue blood runs through your vaines but what if your were impartial? RM style can be perceived as very tough and not all kids want to go through that. I know SIU went through that this year and lost some kids because of it. BG style is much different he's much more of a players coach. Rm has had players go to next level so that is very attractive but how much of that had to do with him or recruting top notch players? At the end of the day JH has to do whats best for himself and some of you would say "Well we didn't want him anyway". There is no riskier choice in SLU or UK only the right choice for JH.

  10. I never understand why anyone even reacts to posts that were obviously trying to get people are worked up.

I discounted mtripp long ago, but then every once in a while he actually posts something useful and constructive. More of those posts mtripp, less posts where you are just getting a laugh.

    Sounds good.

  11. No way you have a nephew and even more unbelievable that you have one old enough to play baseball. For starters I thought you under 12 years old and also your parents should have learned there lesson from you.

Hey you idiot were talking about BASKETBALL!!!

  12. nh, let him go. mtripp has taken the whole thompson snubbing siu very personal. it will be four years of him reminding us that siu didnt think thompson was good enough (sure he wasnt. that is why you love to tell us about it). meanwhile brett thompson turns into an nba player in our palace arena and siu is still stuck in their barn and mtripp is wondering how that happened. i actually feel a little sorry for mtripp.

I just think it's so funny that you guys think he is even going to play muchless a NBA player. I live 15 minutes from brett I know him personally my nephew competed against him for three years. I watched him 12-15 times and every time he got dominated by six foot centers at the high school level. How almighty Roy will he compete at the A-10 level? And by the way believe it or not but SIU pulled his offer when CLO saw that he couldn't compete at blind school for girls much less the mvc.

  13. The maiin difference is we have started winning some of the battles

You are kidding right? How many national championships does SLU have? Hey atleast you can feel good about getting in on the final two. Its not like he is gonna be very good anyway he did agree to play at W Illinois for goodness sake. You have started to win some battles huh name them? :P

  14. Thompson is going to take some time, but he has a great skill set. The best from Thompson will come down the line. I think KM, BC, and RC will have an immediate impact.

I think you guys have a great class I think cotto and cassity are better than some think. And thompson is as overrated as anybody in the top 150. But cotto is by far the gym in your class. But Cassity will be the difference maker and a 4 year player.
