  1. Has anyone seen Cody's twitter recently (more like late last night). I remember the first time I got drunk also Cody, it's alright.

    Stay classy Cody............

    Here they are:

God I wish I had game...I really don't...I hope billikens.com is reading this and realizes I can't shoot or post

I suck at basketball and i should quit...I also blow my own dick anytime i get the chance..btw I wish I still had @salecich15 swag

Hey @EvansDwayne21 remember when you put your nuts on my nose

  2. 1) I have no idea what was said during recruitment but even if he told him he was a sure fire starter during his recruitment, Majerus or any coach for that matter should give an honest assessment of where they stand after a year of seeing him play on the court and given what other players are in in the program. Should they simply lie to JJ just to keep him around?

    2) I have been told by people that I trust a lot more than the "guessers" on this board that it is JJ's decision and he is torn. The Jett's, Clyborn's etc. are back-up plans if he or anyone else decides to leave.

When I asked Smith, he told me he is for sure going to keep JJ here no matter what. In my opinion, I believe that JJ was set on transferring but is having doubts now.

  3. As I stated 1 week earlier and had both of my topics/posts disappear, let me say this again: I currently coach high school basketball. RM told a coach from a different team in my league that JJ was going to or thinking about transferring (because he is recruiting someone who has killed my team the past two years). I think RM has an idea.

However, one of my current players and one player who is a sophmore at a nearby college plays pickup sometimes with these guys and talks to them. As of now he is not 100% sure he is transferring.

  4. Why would we assume this kid would be the 3rd pg. He's bigger and stronger than our other options. From all accounts McCall is a combo guard. Kwamain is 2 years ahead of him, so maybe he's an apprentice for a couple of years and takes over full time as a jr. We saw KC bring the ball up a lot this year and KM play off the ball. ESPN's account of him made him sound like a true pg with maybe not the most quickness, but great vision.

We need to recruit the best players we can get, if it means a lesser player must move on .... fine.

This idea that we're pushing kids out is ridiculous. How can we be pushing a kid out that was never guaranteed anything more than 1 year? Can we please quit using that terminology. Kid's may not get renewed, but the insinuation that we are breaking a promise to them is wrong. Absolutely, flat out, wrong.

Skip---Do you believe me now when I said earlier JJ was transferring? Last I heard is that he is not 100% sure and Jon Smith is trying his hardest to convince him to stay.

  5. I would agree to your above scenario- 1 at Mizzou, 1 at Chaifetz, and 1 in KC.

No way can SLU ever agree to give Mizzou 2 home games in Columbia for 1 at SLU- agree with Coach Majerus' position.

Mizzou is not that type of elite program for whom SLU could ever agree to a 2 for 1. Frankly, Mizzou is not that much better than SLU now with the SLU team consisting solely of freshman and sophs- Mizzou's RPI is 43; SLU's RPI is 75 and was at 49 per the last cbssports.com RPI since Cody Ellis started playing. For comparison purposes, St. Mary's RPI is 28, Gonzaga's is 33. There is no way that SLU would give St. Mary's or Gonzaga 2 home games in exchange for 1 at SLU. Ditto for Mizzou. And St. Mary's is in the NCAA Sweet 16.

Agree with others that giving Mizzou a 2 for 1 would be detrimental to SLU trying to get better programs to play SLU home and home.

A 1-1-1 with 1 in KC would favor Mizzou, but it would be a bit more palatable from the SLU perspective. 1-1-1 with the 1 at Scottrade Center or the Dome would be better for SLU, and probably even Mizzou, as it would make more money if it was at the Dome like the last time. But a 1-1-1 with the 1 in KC seems like Solomon's splitting of the baby to get this deal done.

    Play the game, Mizzou.

Mizzou has made it to the tournament and elite 8 the past two years, SLU hasn't. Mizzou does have the upperhand here because they have more money. They don't need this game as much as SLU. Slu needs to improve their schedule, Mizzou doesn't. Another thing for Mizzou is it's a lose lose situation. If they beat SLU everyone will say they were suppposed to, if they don't then it doesn't look good for them to lose to a school not in a BCS conference.

I hope SLU schedules it so we can prove to not only people in Missouri but also St. Louis that SLU isn't a weak program because we don't play in a BCS conference.

  6. it also still takes time to change the perception of slu basketball in st. louis. They had their media exposure with Xavier and didn't win. People I work with think that SLU basketball is just not that good. Also, it's easy for them to use the Illinois/Mizzou argument that they have a chance of being in the dance but not SLU. It takes time to change people.

  7. I have been following all the talk about the student turnout on this board, and decided to go down to the game and check it out. I am currently a graduate student at SLU. I went to purchase a ticket and they told me it was ten bucks. Is it ten bucks for all students or ten bucks because I'm a part time grad student? If it is ten dollars for all students now I understand why there are no students at games (even when school is in session). When I was in college, I was broke and there would be no way I would pay ten dollars for SLU to play a no name team (yes this is including half the teams in the A10).

How awesome is UMKC offense? I loved it, all back doors and pick and rolls. It would be interesting to see WR, KM, FJ, and the new recruits in that offense.

Is it me or does SLU just play to the level of their competition (Rockhurst/MO St/Notre Dame)?

I currently coach basketball at a high school and the number one rule is if you are 3 feet or closer from the hoop you shoot. If your not open to shoot you pump fake and then shoot (keep in mind H.S. refs will give you any call at the basket). Maybe SLU should follow this rule.

Can SLU please have people wait until there is dead ball before going to their seat?

SLU needs to sign up the guy who won $1,000 dollars at halftime, I'm positive he won't be afraid to shoot the ball and have a higher 3 point percentage.

  8. All of those tournaments are about money. I doubt ESPN or other sponsors would want to promote/organize a "religious" tournament because it would open them up to a lot of complaints from other religions and whatnot.

By the way, who are the Rockhurst 2 players that are ineligible? Are they new this year? I doubt they are Rockhurst's two best players because Hill is obviously their best player (since he was the best player in the entire conference last year). Maybe they are #2 and #3, but Hill is #1.

One is a big man from a foriegn country (6'9) the other is a guard. They are both new to the team. You are correct about Hill being the best.

  9. I too graduated from Rockhurst and about 20 Rockhurst grads are also going to the game. The good thing about this game is that one it is bringing in money for SLU but also about half of Rockhurst are from St. Louis so hopefully these people will become more interested in the Slu games.

The bad thing about Rockhurst is that their two best players (one is a big man) are not cleared to play this year. Hill, is a player. Slu could use him for his shooting.

One question, we have the Jimmy V classic and all the other tournaments what about a Jesuit classic (or could just have a Catholic classic)?

  10. About the students:

    - They will show up when SLU starts winning. Yes they have had winning seasons, but really against who? It takes time to turn the perception around about the basketball program. I always hear students not wanting to go because the team is terrible and they don't want to pay money. I think in a lot of students minds they don't give the program a chance because they are not in the "big conferences". If I was a poor broke college student i'm not sure I would want to spend my money on SLU playing some of the non-conference opponents.

However, I do think this will change once SLU starts winning some more games. Remember when the Savis or whatever it was called was sold out on a regular basis.

  11. Thought this was interesting from today's paper.

Washington U. ranked hign when Forbes Magazine released its list last week of America' best colleges.

    West Point was first

    Princeton was second

    Wash U. was ranked 45th

    Illinois was ranked 132

    Mizzou was ranked 374

    SLU was ranked 524

I am a graduate from SLU but always get very annoyed when some posters claim that SLU is the best thing ever. The only thing that really seperates SLU from the others is its Catholic i.d. I don't know what formula was used, but can we please stop the arguement that SLU academics is so superior then everyone else?

  12. not to start another ahearn thread but, Scott Suggs isn't getting playing time in Wash. (3 games zero minutes) and Harrelson hardly any at Kentucky. Does anyone know what's wrong with Suggs, i thought he was one of the best high school players i have seen in awhile.

  13. brian,

First off there isn't a high demand for tickets that's the problem, the game should have been sold out.

how exactly does that cheapen the product by having cheaper seats? If that is your thinking then you (not saying you have) can not complain about people not showing up for games. Remember when the rams moved here? Going to a rams game was like visiting a country club. Is that how SLU wants it?

If more people come they will more then likely become a bigger fan, and even buy some merchandise. Let me give you an example. I went to a NIKE sale at Parkway South the other day. I had the choice of getting a mizzou or a SLU sweatshirt. I chose the Mizzou one. I have been to more football games and more mizzou basketball games this year (only one).

At the high school i teach at, every senior wants to go to Mizzou not SLU. they are doing great in enrollment because of the football team and because the public is excited about the program (not to mention they don't out price their customers). And don't say that we don't want Mizzou students at SLU. I went to SLU and its all hype. Meremac (when i took summer classes) had some better teachers then SLU.

Bottom line is cheaper tickets might get more people in the building, more people excited about the program, and may raise freshmen enrollment.

  14. "I wonder what the price of seats in other D1 schools with on campus arenas are?"

don't know how to put on the quote boxes sorry.

but at Mizzou the cheapest was 14 dollars. I would pay 14 to see kent state but not 28. My family has always had season tickets. I could never afford them so always bought single game tickets. Its going to be tough to pay 28 dollars. I'll watch them on tv and on the internet but doubt i'll make it to more then 2 games.

I know bill fans don't want to hear this and i hope the ADepartment realizes this but with Mizzou tickets being cheap (i'm sometimes up there for business) and Mizzou being on tv more then SLU, Slu may be loosing someone who was willing to spend money on there program.
