  1. Did anyone find it odd that in the course of defending the Muskies best player that Cassity had 0 fouls. ZERO FREAKIN FOULS!!!

And they miss Femi's shot big time. And his defense - not necessarily over Cassity's but certainly over Jordan's.

Are you kidding me? They miss Femi's shot???? He is shooting 34% from the floor and 28% from 3 this year. That's no good at all. Plus the man is basically playing on 1 leg. I love his attitude and hope he comes back stronger than ever next year and contributes. But to think that he would have done any better than Cassity is simply insane IMO. Cassity played his heart out guarding Crawford and there comes a time when you just need to give the player his due - Crawford is a legitimate player and NBA prospect!

I do agree that his D is better than Jordan's though. JJ needs to improve his D this summer.

  2. I don't think anyone declared this the greatest Billiken season ever. The Bills are finally winning and there is genuine excitement in the air. Why do we still need to bring up this stupid radio show garbage. Who cares about radio!!! Like someone else said - it is radio folks and who really listens. I like W's, exciting games, and watching talented kids play their hearts out and could care less about what coach says. Porter is doing just fine and he will be our coach in a few years anyway.

And one more thing - why do posters on this board continue to bring up ancient coaches and things that happened in the past? Give me a break and quit living in the past people. You need to let it go and deal with what’s at hand now and stop making comparisons. It's getting old!!!!

  3. Wow! it was nice to get the win but it almost gave me a heart attack!

As I sat there and watched, the thing that dawned on me is that I really like watching these young men play. They make mistakes, they make bad plays but they always play hard and every player who has been here a while is better on D than when they arrived--Cody has been here such a short time he has not yet been indoctrinated!

I know many refuse to even discuss the idea, but folks this is still a VERY inexperienced team and the growing pains are very obvious at times.

Over the past week I have prettty much given up on this board because of the incredible descent into negativity but I would urge everyone to stay with these kids. They are a very good group and the future is still bright. Kyle C has massively improved in just a season and a half. Willie really came back nicely tonight. KM never quit even when he was shooting bricks and he came back strong. CS has become a very tough defender and a tough customer and he finally hit some nice shots. JS is just like a young colt running and jumping and getting better with each game--the sky is the limit! Cody is still getting familiar with the defensive side but he is a player. Let's try to stay positive!

No excuses to shoot 8 / 17 from the free throw line. That is simply embarassing!!! It doesn't matter how old you are: you make free throws on your home court. There are simply no distractions. I do like the talent on this team and think they can be special but there comes a times when you have to criticize a team on certain aspects of play and free throws is one area in which the team sucks at!!!!! Plain and simple this game should have been over at the 10 minute mark in the second half last night.

  4. Roar,

Well said! If we really want a winning program then we need to take the good with the bad. And to all of you losers out there who want Rick to be some kind of person he isn't: I hate to break the news to you - he won't!!!! He has always done things his way and will continue to. So shut up and live with it!! Too many St. Louisians feelings are hurt when things don't go their way. GROW UP!!!!!

  5. agree entirely. Good guys but come on.

Also, looking at the grades, the lowest is a Cand the team went 16-15 and was record breakingly bad in some games! No one deserves an A with the uneven performances this year. Love KL and the Xavier game was brilliant. However, how that same guy could be on the floor at GW is beyond me.

    Team grade a C-

Yeah, grading the players and the coaching staff is purely subjective. I would simply give the season a C. Just barely above average and a bit below expectations from the start. I agree that coming off a 20 win season, many expected a little more or about the same. However, we need to remember that RM brought in basically a whole new coaching staff and a totally different philosophy. So with that said, this season was all about RM getting acclimated back into CBB life. The next few years will tell if he really can bring SLU to the promise land!! I do feel bad for the seniors as they were put in a tough situation with a new coach and new system.

Oh, BH and DP a B-? You have got to be kidding me!!! I would give Bryce a C- simply for his presence around the basket and ability to block shots. Too slow and no offense. Dwayne gets a D+. Yes, great hustle and decent ball handling skills but no offense whatsoever and marginal defense! Teams dared him to shoot and he never did. Disappointing that his shot got worse over a 4 yr. period.

  6. geez, danny brown's subpar junior year had nothing to do with getting yanked as much as his knee was just shot. brown always was a favorite of soderberg at the end of the year banquet last year, soderberg told us how much danny tried all season only to be denied due to his knee. he compared danny's knee prior to surgery as one of a 12 year nba veteran.

Agreed Roy. DB's knee was shot and that is why it took him so long to get back into rhythm. Not his lack of defense and don't blamn Majerus for the reason why he came around so late this season. A shot knee to a basketball player is the kiss of death. Especially for a shooter. Look at what happened to Bill Walton. Great college basketball player but not as good in the NBA. His knees went south. Don't even start to blame RM for this, that just makes me mad. RM worked hard with what he had and like someone said earlier, he has only been on the job for 11 months after sitting out for a couple of years. Next year will be the true marking of what RM can do at SLU. I think everyone will expect more than 16 wins, even RM.

Looking forward to a fresh start at the Chaifetz.

  7. Any chance of this happening? He brings an all state guard with him. He's clean. Also, he'd get a yearly shot at his buddy, Fr. Biondi. How much would us Brad Bashers hate losing to him? Seriously though, this would be a good job for UB. He recruits in an area he knows. Kramer would likely excel in the MVC. He's not going to get a BCS job at this stage. Seems to me a good fit. Would MoState take a SLU reject (not meant to sound as harsh as it does)?

Could be a possibility since Kramer stated that he would love to play for his Dad. This would be a package deal and could be good leverage for Kramer if Hinson were to be fired. However, I still cannot fathom MO St. firing Hinson after one bad year in the last several seasons. Yes, I for one was a Brad basher and would hate losing to him. He does know the area well but as far as his recruiting abilities go, I would not even be scared a bit with him going up against Majerus. Big Rick would destroy Brad in the recruiting battle. In addition, BS was never a good recruiter to begin with.... at least during his time at SLU. Yes, he did land KL and TL but surrounding them with mediocre players did not work out.

  8. No way Rickma starts Peyton, it would be nice, but it ain't gunna happen.

    Board,

I really don't know why we are really fighting about this... unfortunately I agree with most posters that Peyton should not and will not start. In addition, I thought he was only a Junior. I know he won't be back next year anyway so I guess that is why we are saying he is a senior? It really doesn't matter because he won't start. The only true senior bench player that should start would be DB. Starting lineup should be:

    1. DP

    2. KL

    3. DB

    4. LM

    5. BH

Now why are we still trying to figure this out. I sure hope the seniors get a good round of applause. I sure will be standing to cheer for all of them. I am going to miss LM and DB. If not for injuries and coaching changes, I think DB could have developed into a solid all-around player.

  9. We are the 7th best conference. Just based on that we have to get 2 teams in. Say we win out and then 3 wins in the conference tourney, final record 21-13, 20-13. This upcoming Duquesne game will be the biggest all season. Key wins SIUC, St Joe, UMass, RI(?). Our losses are not that bad if you take out 20pt GW game. Xavier is a top 10 team now. If we beat Xavier I think we could have a shot. Plenty of woulda/shoula/coulda

and the BC and Dayton loss and the Kent St. debacle... bad losses. However, they were a bit early in the season and this team and become a much better team as of late.

I do agree with those key wins and I should probably take back my comment about SLU having few, if any, key wins.

  10. i am betting we take a step back in the rpi tomorrow win or lose playing st bonnie. keep that in mind.

Even with a finish of 21-13 or somewhere near there, I just don't think SLU's RPI and strength of schedule would put them anywhere near a bubble team. Plus, they would really have few, if any, quality wins and they are bad on the road. However, how about an NIT invitation and a chance to play a home game at the Chaifetz? Not really out of the question. I guess you would need to see if the Arena would even be ready to host a basketball game. However, they have events planned for April and it was supposed to be open in early March.

Wouldn't that be something if SLU played an NIT game at the Chaifetz? Sorta like a "soft" home opener...

  11. I think his play of late as been very encouraging. I would guess that he will be around next year.

I think AK's play has been commendable lately. He is spelling minutes for BH and BE and that's his role right now. I do agree that he will be around next year but his playing time with depend on how good the incoming Freshmen are. I like his attitude and he does not get pushed around inside. His quickness, lack of a shot and decision making ability are what might keep him from moving any higher in Majerus' lineup next year.

  12. That St Joe's team has no excuse for being on the bubble. That team should have had itself already clearly in the tournament. Majerus schooled Martelli last night. Martelli's rep has always far exceeded his ability.

Agreed. However, I really think SLU just burst their bubble last night. No excuses to lose to a team at home that is not good on the road. The Selection Committee will frown upon this for St. Joe's. This may open it up to a different third team for the A-10. I still think the A-10 gets 3 in the Big Dance - Xavier, Rhode Island and now maybe UMASS. However, if someone else wins the tourney, someone could get bumped.

  13. jimbo great point. the dunk is good, but the entire play is what is a highlight. lisch sliding on his back in the middle of a scrum and having the sensibility to flip it to barry who no look one hand flips it over his shoulder to a streaking liddell who throws the almost too easy bounce pass to a danny brown for a posterizing "where's your messiah now?" dunk.

defining play of the team. it should be their ultimate highlight.

i wish i had heard ramsey and earl's call of it.

I don't know if it was Hubert Davis that made that loud noise, but someone did right after Brown's dunk. It was probably the guy holding the camera. There was someone gasping in the background. Would not have been surprised if it was Davis.

Once again, great game. Hope to see a good crowd Saturday.

  14. I checked it out this morning and it was bumped to number 10.

Agree on Hubert Davis. Both of the announcers were pretty good, I thought. Although they were just doing there job, I felt they knew a lot more about SLU and our situation than guys in the past.

Just a good all around team effort by our guys. TL and KL seem to have fully caught on and look very comfortable out there. And you can't say enough about Danny Brown. It's amazing what that guy has done this year.

I'm still a little in awe that we won that game. That was St. Joe's for the taking. They were a bunch of giants. If they were able to get the ball in the paint, they would have dominated. But they couldn't. And for about 5 minutes there, every time they tried to get the ball in, our help defense was there to create a turnover. Haven't looked at the stats, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's the most turnovers we forced all season. This game, more than any I've seen this year, really shows how much height we lack. We sorely need some guys over 6'5. Husak, while a nonfactor on offense, noticeably changed the game when he was in there. Solely because of his height.

I'm starting to think we may have a shot in AC...

    Nashville,

I think every team that gets in has a shot in AC. The conference is so up in the air right now, it's sick. On any given night, SLU can hang with any team in the A-10. They showed they can play against the big boys like Xavier, Dayton, UMASS, St. Joes, and even the second place team right now, Richmond (how in the world is that possible). I am looking forward to an exciting tourney in AC.

  15. This really was a game where everyone worked together and just got it done. Kevin leading the first half charge and hitting clutch shots late, Tommie leading the second half charge, Luke quietly filling up the stat sheet and doing all the little things better than anyone else, Danny playing the best ball of his career and capping a wild play with a fantastic dunk, Bryce disrupting St. Joe's inside, Adam doing a nice defensive job in there, Barry stepping up on D and providing the no-look pass, Polk being the floor leader, and Eckerle making you forget he's a freshman. I look around and don't feel the least bit disappointed with anyone's performance last night. Great win.

By the way, I have become a huge Hubert Davis fan. He does an excellent job, and is under the radar as one of ESPN's best guys.

Agree with the comments about Davis. He knows the game well since he was a pretty good player at Carolina and he is easy to listen to. On a side note: did anyone notice how the public address announcer was butchering TL's last name in the first half? I think he got it right in the second half.
  16. Congrats to all the Bills. You played big and left it all out on the court tonight.

Great shooting, the dunk was awesome, and super interior "D". Denied Nivens the ball. He is a load but we covered him and kept him from running away with the game.

    Super job Bills.

Wow, what a fun game to watch. The Bills looked good on the road and our two studs stepped up. KL and TL played great. They put a little more pressure on KL in the second half but that's when TL took over. I tried to see if the DB dunk was on the 10 pm Sportscenter but could not find it. Did anyone see if it was on sports television anywhere?

  17. the ticket prices would have been nearly the same price if Soderberg was still coach. Whatever info you have is wrong. SLU is underfunded on the arena by somewhere near $5 - $10 million and they had to raise season ticket prices. Now what % was raised when Majerus was hired is anyone's guess. However, to say that the new ticket plan is solely based on the increased expenses from Majerus and his staff is complete BS! An $80 million arena, season ticket prices that have been embarassing low for years, and increased interest in a team finally playing at a basketball facility all contributed to the Arena's ticket prices going higher. Everyone expected it. You are simply not looking at all the facts.

And please stop bashing Biondi!!! This is for everyone. Have you seen the campus grow in the last 20 years? Or are you too comfortable out in the suburbs and scared to visit the city? What Biondi and Co. have done to this U is simply amazing. Yeah, his PR job with the firing was awful but come on, aren't we all happy right now.

  18. None of SLU's current roster has made any tourney? So, why do you think they had a shot with BS? Now is a time for change, a lot of people have been saying that for months and it is time for Biondi and the higher ups to back up their words about being "a top 50 program." Yeah, I agree the timing was a little late, but hold up until we get a coach and see what recruits come in. These recruits right now have not said a word about their future plans and you are jumping to conclusions a little too quick IMO. Let's just wait and see who SLU lands. It's not like the two recruits SLU landed were heavily recruited. You are giving BS too much credit IMO.

  19. Abe, Agreed. If you want to watch some pee wee sports action Billiken Fan05, go find a pick up game at your nearest park. Giving in to boosters is what every big time program has to deal with you wimp!!!! This is good for the program. Now SLU needs to make the right decision and hire a coach that can bring in big time talent and take over the sad a@@ A-10.

    Wait and see.....

  20. Frankly, this was time coming for BS and not untimely IMO. Remember Big Bad Bobby Huggins? He brought some talent in to K-State this past year and made that program respectible. In one year!!!! When did he have time to recruit? Granted he totally shafted that U and left them high and dry and is totally shady. The point is that canning a coach now is not 'screwing any pooch' for the upcoming season. If you at least assume that SLU has been or was talking with someone, they might have some talent lined up or at least have contacts out in the HS or JC level. IMO, a little too quick to state that SLU made a bad timing decision. 5 years is enough for BS and time for a change.....

  21. quit crying about Lacey. We have all seen this before. Another recruit goes off somewhere else. Did SLU ever consider this guy? Maybe, maybe not. IMO, SLU needs a big man and another PG. However, if SLU continues to "miss out" on players like Lacey (who many consider an average PG), what will SLU have to show? No PG and no center or PF for the 2007-2008 season. I guess only time will tell on who BS recruits. A nice start but still not finished IMO.

Let's come to the facts, it will be very very difficult for SLU to land a top D1 prospect. So why not find those "quality" second tiers and develop them? I am still waiting on Brad developing a player. And please, no one say he has devloped KL and TL yet. Those two were already quality playes and IMO BS had nothing to do with that. There is much left to be desired about BS. But, like I said, only time will tell.

    Clock is ticking BS......
