  1. Will struggle to score 23? Could easily lose? Only two legit starterd? I think my head is about to explode. I am going to have to take one of these Roy/Billikanesque self-imposed breaks from this board. Yes, we are young, very young, but we have talent and good coaching and will compete every game. We will also blow out SEMO and every other crappy team we play at home. Enough of the sky is falling BS.

Thank you. We are going to MONKEYSTOMP them, just like Jimbo said.

  2. actually i dont think that is allowed. the release has to come outside of slu. not 100% sure of that but almost positive the original nli has to come mail or fax.

You could be right, in fact when I signed my NLI I had to mail it in also I think. I had seen this article's headline but hadn't read it yet, and it doesn't say anything in there about him coming down here within the article. Either way, I don't think we have anything to worry about regarding Evans or McCall signing just because there hasn't been an official SLU release yet.

  3. 'Rican. Guess I'm on that same island as well. Frankly, though, it's not so much I have "KC enthusiasm" I just don't have the unfounded pessimism you seem to spout. In place of Jimbo, go ahead and respond to my posts about KC. How fair is it to label a Soph with comments about his "bricks" when he played only sparingly, and in back-up roles, for KM, KL and TL while learning all 3 positions during his Freshman year? 2 shots per game - coming off the bench cold - is alot different than being a regular player this year.

If KC ends up playing more of a "lead role" at guard this year and is still shooting 26% and "throwing up bricks" after the first 10 games, I will be the first to say that KC should sit the bench more.

Agreed, I don't understand why everyone is jumping on KC already. He didn't shoot nearly enough last year for anyone to pass judgment on his ability, IMO. No one went apeshit after the first game when Kwamain couldn't of hit water if he fell out of a boat. If through KC's first 66 shots this year he is shooting 26% then let him ride the pine. I think him being more involved in the offense this year (in terms of actually looking for shots while he is on the court) will help his shooting rhythm. He will be fine.

  4. Thats what I said. I'm not a fan of Bulger, but I don't want to spend a high first round pick on a qb. Costs too much. My knowledge is limited, but if somehow Bradford fell to the 2nd round, I'd gamvle and take him. I think our O line is improving and may end up pretty good, they just need time. We need a big possession receiver and we need Avery to stay healthy and on the field.

I know a lot of people like the 2 defensive tackles Suh and I think McCoy from OU, but the Rams, any Ram GM taking a defensive lineman with a 1st rd pick sends shivers of my spine.

Thanks for the info on the Delaware qb, but I had seen the stats. Looking for someone with some deeper knowledge. Is he a legit pro prospect? Why'd he leave Penn State and go to freaking Delaware?

He left because he was still behind Clark, things didn't look like they were going to change in that regard, and he wanted to start for more than 1 year. Playing part-time in blowouts isn't in the dreams of QBs who are in the top-5 in the nation at their position in HS. He probably should've gone to a different school that offered a better QB situation, but he is from Pennsylvania and staying home was a big draw. He probably thought he could play his way to starter, but that wasn't happening, so he went somewhere he could immediately play.

  5. If the Rams pick too high to take a WR I'd love to see them trade down a few picks, of course realizing they have to have a trade partner. Imo the Rams need the best WR available in the mid first round. I don't want to see them pick one up too early as it just cost too much money. I don't want a top 5 pick qb either for the same reason, and the success rate is not so good for qb's picked that high. If you get one that doesn't work out ... you're cap screwed for years. We already have a lot of cap dollars tied up in bad 1st round picks.

Anyone know anything about Brandon LaFell? I'd like to see the Rams get a big possession receiver. He'd be a good match with Avery if he could stay healthy.

Also anyone have a good read on the qb at Delaware who transfered from Penn State?

Why don't we play Null a bit?

I think you're talking about Pat Devlin. He's a Junior, looked good in the limited playing time he got while at Penn State. He's got good size (6'4, 220), led them on a clutch drive against Ohio State. He's putting up pretty nice numbers at Delaware for what that is worth. About 1900 yards, 13:5 TD: INT, 62% completion in 8 games, where the team went 5-3.

  6. What does it matter how many students are on here? It's never been very many. Why does it matter all of a sudden?

No one said it matters. Skip suggested the board has 2 or 3 students on it, which sparked the discussion. At least its a new argument.

I'm not saying that there are only three or four current SLU students using this forum. Rather, I'm saying that this forum had nothing to do with the number of students who show up at any particular event.

Which I can agree with, but I don't think that was the implication of the post you were replying to. I think he was just trying to use the logic that student support has increased in the last year and a half, which likely means that there are more students on the forum now than there were say 3 years ago.

  7. What does the attendance at Billikens games have to do with this website, considering that it has no affiliation with Saint Louis University? I suspect the vast majority of fans who attend Billikens games have no idea that this message board exists, let alone visit it, and I suspect the vast majority of SLU students have no idea this board exists.

Sure, the majority of students is similar to the majority of Bills fans in that they don't know this site exists, but is it hard to imagine that if more students go to the games, more students might find the message board? No one would suggest that there are 15,000 users on here, but if you think there are only 3 or 4 students on here and it is all just an old boys club of old users you would be wrong.

  8. I read the Wall article in ESPN. What a joke. First, he's been practicing with UK so he started school obviously. If the NCAA hadn't cleared him where'd his scholie come from? I don't get this whole clearance thing at all anyways. Please someone in the know clear this up for me, if CE had just been a regular student, ie non athlete, and SLU accepted him wouldn't he have been attending classes since Sept? So if it's the school's decision to admit, why does the NCAA have to be involved? Now I agree there would be schools that would admit a 6'9" illiterate from one of the lost tribes of the Amazon if he could score, but eventually he would fail. Is this what they're trying to protect against?

Wall and Cody aren't similar situations. Cody is trying to get cleared academically, Wall already was. Wall's situation involves them suddenly getting information regarding his amateur status due to his AAU coach being a certified agent and because Wall was provided illegal benefits during recruiting visits.

  9. You have already referenced his salary. Majerus would not have come to SLU without the improved facilities, strength coaches, increased assistant coach money, his own salary, etc...and so on....he negotiated and got that, and you seem to begrudge him for that. That stuff is just to get you in the game with all of the other schools. Welcome to NCAA hoops.

I don't think most people here or elsewhere thought Majerus was going to have SLU in the NCAA's in his first few seasons. He now has two full classes of his own that are Frosh and Sophs. It would be reasonable to expect better results from them in the next few years, especially as Seniors and Juniors and after that. If he does it he does it and if he doesn't he won't be around after that.

Just because SLU now has new, and more expensive facilities, a new and more expensive coach, new and more expensive assistants, etc...and so on....doesn't mean the previous things didn't happen. It doesn't mean things will happen asap on your time line because you think a lot of money has been newly invested. If you want one year wonders and flashes in the pan, look elsewhere. It takes time to build long term success, especially at a place that has never seen it. He may or may not do that. It's still to be determined. But if you thought everything you wanted was going to happen within 3 years, I'm not sure you fully understood SLU's place in the landscape then or now.

Majerus doesn't control the ticket prices. He alone doesn't control the schedule. He alone doesn't control the marketing to fans and students. It seems some people don't understand what they were getting when he became the coach.

We'll see what happens. He may very well not produce success over time, and if not he will be gone. But he'll get his fair opportunity to do that.

If and when SLU starts winning at a higher rate, more often, more students and fans will go to games. Until then, aggressive marketing seems like an obvious necessity, and the need for continued aggressive marketing should not be underestimated if and when SLU has more success more often.

    To you, courtside:

  10. how many of the slu academic presidential scholarship winnners (those that get full academic rides to slu) do you think have exactly the minimum number of classes to be eligible to just get admitted to saint louis university? i would be willing to bet few if any. most of the high academic achievers at the high school level have more credits than needed and in fact enter college with upwards of double digit college credit courses in their pocket already.

btw, my daughter was one notch below a slu presidential scholarship winner that interviewed for the prize and i attended the weekend that the final interviews were held, so i think i know a little bit about what i am talking about on this one. my daughter had a 5.0 on a 4.0 scale, and had over 24 college credits when she started school this fall. she didnt get the presidential scholarship and instead was only offered an approximate 2/3 scholarship to attend saint louis university.

i stand by my original statement. if ellis had the academic credentials that was an easy fix. if slu missed that opportunity then we need new compliance folks at slu. my guess is our slu compliance folks are very good at their jobs.

I guess I didn't read the previous comment thinking we should give him a FULL academic scholarship. I'll definitely agree with you that Cody likely doesn't have the credentials to be given a Presidential Scholarship. Either way, I think it is a moot point anyway because I think you still would have to be cleared by the NCAA whether you were playing with an academic scholarship or athletic scholarship. If there was an easy fix to this situation he'd already be here.
