  1. Chris May told who the coach was going to be next year, what conference we would be in and who the recruits are going to be, but said it was a secret and not to tell anybody. Everyone took an oath promising not to tell and pledging their alliegence to Father Biondi. If you weren't there, you'll just have to wait and see what happens.

    LMAO

Its pretty sad that not one local Billiken.Com poster did not attend to give a report.

I didn't go but my dad did. He didn't have much interesting to report although he has ADD and his comprehension skills aren't the best. He did say he thought Crews was a lot more personable and engaging than past meetings. The one thing he said that was funny is he asked May if attendance numbers are tickets sold or people in the seats at the game? May's response was, "the number is pretty accurate to what is reported." Haha. What the heck does that mean? May should be a politician.

  2. First of all, welcome to the board BeBrave. SLU and Bradley have a history together and I for one am glad you are interested in the Bills. As someone who was in college in Kansas City when Bradley beat KU in the NCAAs, I have a special place in my heart for the Braves right next to Bucknell. I hope you decide to come to a few more games after this one.

Individual game ticket prices are pretty ridiculous. However, it is my understanding that they are much more reasonable for season ticket holders and there are even discounted 4 game ticket packs available. Plus they usually do Groupon/Living Social deals for the lesser opponents and then prices are about where they should be. I assume SLU still wants to get top dollar for the premium games and doesn't want to piss off season ticket holders by charging less for individual games, which is why they do the Groupon/Living Socials deals rather than just lower prices.

Even with all that I still don't understand SLU's pricing strategy. They have overpriced tickets since the opening of Chaifetz. I assume the thinking was that with a shiny new arena people would pay a premium. This failed miserably IMO. The better strategy would have been to charge a reasonable amount for tickets and sell out the arena right away. Establish a fun atmosphere of a packed arena and then gradually increase ticket prices as the team had success and people enjoyed going to games in a sell out atmosphere.

Additionally, I am not sure why SLU bothers with the online deals, they should just have tiered pricing for games like the Cardinals do. Go cheap for the mid-week games against non-premium opponents, reasonable for weekend games, and pricey for games against premium opponents.

They also need to allow you to print the tickets at home and establish a relationship with StubHub to allow fans to sell online and allow the buyer to print at home. This would create a secondary market for tickets and allow season ticket holders to re-coup some of their investment on games they cannot make it to while putting more butts in the seats which means more parking/concession revenue.

You are dead right on all points. I couldn't agree more. Great post.

  3. But they were OUR awful refs meaning most of the bad calls went against LMU. Yeah, a couple went against us but I'm sure LMU felt they got a screw job and they'd have every right to feel that way.

I thought they were about equally bad for both teams. It was awful to watch.

  4. Hard to believe, but demayo was the best ref at yesterdays game. Or maybe we should say least worst man i am glad that was a bad team and a blowout. Pray we never get those three clowns to officiate another slu game.

I said the exact same thing to my dad as we were leaving yesterday's game. Those guys were absolutely awful.

  5. This board has gone completely insane when it comes to Crews. I am saying that as someone isn't super happy with the job he has done so far. He is taking too much crap on here. You would think we would have lost to EIU the way some are acting on here.

    +1

I don't get it, either. At times, I think people are watching different games than me. The Rob Loe thing baffles me as well. He is doing the exact same stuff as last year - except for missing a lot more shots. I don't see his game as any different, which isn't a good thing - don't get me wrong. But I don't get how people are saying Loe is trying to play a different game. He is doing the exact same stuff as I have seen the first two seasons - looks like the same player.

  6. i totally agree and laugh at those that think there is even a chance he would be axed. father biondi will leave slu when father biondi wants to leave slu. while i have not been a fan of a lot of the heavy handed action that seems to have happened the last few years, there is no doubt that saint louis university today is where it is because of the efforts of father biondi over the last 25 years. those of you complaining should have seen what us old timers experienced in the way of a campus and facilities in the 70's and 80's.

my only point was that the current bashing of father biondi (whether justified or not) is not going to help our efforts to align with the remaining big east schools in an effort to form an amazing new conference. biondi is our key player and while even he may not be able to make it happen, without him, it just flat out wont happen. stay the course and support father biondi.

For someone that is so much in favor of a good representative of the university, I can't believe you don't want Biondi gone. From the stories I have heard of him, his actions don't represent the SLU community very well at all, especially for a priest.

  7. I'm not trying to argue that RL is a good low post defender or that manning doesn't have the potential to be. Last night manning fouled the guy literally every time he touched the ball. He would've fould out in 10 min. I guess what I'm saying is I think he got about the right amount of minutes last night

I totally agree with this and I think Manning actually did foul him every time last night. I don't understand why some are saying there were phantom calls. His problem is he never keeps his arms straight up. He is always leaning over or into the player. He is going to get called every time he does that. If he just stands there straight up, he'll be fine but he has never done that when I have watched him. I do think he could/will be a better defender than Loe, who has been terrible as well, but he isn't there yet by any means.

  8. Agreed.

And, actually, Withey will be in the conversation for Player of the Year as well as All-American. I can't believe I have seen some comments on here thinking that Withey is a stiff, that he isn't all that good, etc. Withey is one of the best, if not the best, all-around big men in college this season. He will probably lead the nation in blocks while posting a double-double for the season. While I would have liked to have seen Loe play a lot better last night, and Manning be given a chance to do something against Withey, he was going to get his points, rebounds and blocks regardless. He is going to be the best big man the Bills face all season, by far.

Hey, I thought Withey was a fine player and might be the best big man we face this season but I think many of you are overstating his greatness. I just wasn't impressed with his offensive game. Again, he is a great shot blocker and rebounder. But before last night, he had played four games and had 11 or fewer points three of those games. His best point total of the season was 17 against SEMO on a night he went 5-of-12 from the field. And SEMO doesn't have a player over 6-9 on their team. The only two BCS schools he played (Wash St. and Mich St.) he scored 8 points a piece in those games. I would love to have him on the Bills and think he is a fine player but I don't see him as an All American or Player of the Year. It was just a game, though. Maybe he'll show me more going forward. My "stiff" comment maybe was a little too much but I thought we made it way too easy for him.

  9. you sure you werent watching loe instead of withey? imo withey was all anyone could expect of a college big. made some very difficult catches and most importantly, finished. even when fouled or bumped. and then he made his foul shots as well. cant say the same for our guys. second, he was blocking shots without fouling and his help defense was nothing short of fantastic. the guy is an all american and was the real difference of the game. relaford might have had a great first half, withey had a great game.

When he actually shot the ball at the end of the game he air balled one from five feet along the baseline and bricked another off the back board - I don't remember him making a shot outside of a free throw. He is great defensively and rebounds well but I don't think he has an offensive game besides dunking, which is fine if he can keep getting dunks. The Kansas offense obviously knows how to utilize that. He uses his size well, which is the smart thing to do, but I wouldn't front him defensively. Make him put his back to the basket and make some moves to score. So despite all his points, I wasn't impressed offensively. I was much more impressed with his defense.

  10. I was at the pregame meeting and DE did what he was instructed. They wanted back side support on Whittey and close out on Mclemore. Releford went off for a half. What a trash talking, classless player he was last night, in my opinion.

Yeah, I noticed him backing off early. It seemed like he adjusted after he hit a few, though, and still wasn't closing out and working through screens. Either way, not sure I agree with that strategy as Withey is a complete stiff when he isn't dunking. Loe has to do a much better job of stopping that pass over the top. He was awful last night defensively.

  11. you must have watched a different barnett defense than i saw. mclemore pretty much did what he wanted when he got the ball. i will say barnett showed some confidence and made a couple of big shots and got some rebounds, but jake barnett is far behind the top 7 billikens imo.

I disagree with this. I thought Barnett was fine defensively. McLemore is one of the best players in the country. I wouldn't say 11 points and one assist in 25 minutes is having your way with a player. I thought he held his own fine, considering the circumstances. Barnett is gaining confidence and playing much better. I was much more perplexed by the defense of Dwayne Evans. He had an awful night against Releford. I'm not sure if the game plan was to allow him to shoot wide open threes but it sure seems Evans was daring him to shoot. I didn't get that at all. I would have expected Evans to get the better of that matchup but he didn't.

  12. I thought Manning and Glaze both looked lost defensively out there. I have no faith in them defensively. Until they shore that up, I don't see them as much of a help.

Our guards also were getting beat off the dribble too much and our rotation for help defense wasn't getting it done. Guys were out of position all night, leading to easy baskets. That was as poor of a defensive effort as I have seen in a long time.

  13. Crews seems to like Remuken, I think he's the only one. CR should be yanked anytime he thinks of taking a shot outside of 10 feet. He put up decent numbers 10 & 7 but he can't replicate that against real teams. If you post him up, one fake and the basket is yours. If he's in the rotation or God forbid starting for us I really have no idea what Crews is thinking. Manning right now is just as good and gels better with the other players. Manning had two nice postups with both hands, a long 18 footer, & a great feed to Ellis underneath the basket off a broken play.

I disagree with this. My biggest issue is rebounding. I don't think Manning rebounds well at all. He can't jump and while he blocks out alright from what I have seen, he is not quick to the ball off the rim. I'm really worried about our rebounding when he is in the game. At this point, I think CR is the much better play. I don't expect him to put up the numbers like he did last night but I trust him more than Manning right now.

  14. Barnett played 90 minutes all of last year and took 14 three pointers - not sure how anyone can draw deep conclusions on him and his shot from that. He needs to play for me to get a better opinion. I can't believe some of the statements being thrown around about him for how little he was on the court - most of his time was in garbage time after the first few games of the season. You would have to think he was pressing when playing as he was trying to impress the coaching staff for more minutes. I need to see him more.

  15. Majerus is on 590 right now. I missed the beginning, but here's what he's saying:

-Effort in the first half at UMass was not there.

-Perplexed by missed layups in UMass and other games. Perplexed by stepping out of bounds multiple times at UMass.

-Kwamain's issues largely come from completely missing last season- not being with team, not practicing, not even being on campus a lot of the year.

-Didn't just accept Cusamano's compliment of Jett. Still has things to work on.

    -"We're so close."

-Conklin was good at UMass but Majerus still thinks he may have been hurt. Didn't get why Conklin wouldn't force "number 34" to drive rather than hit those 3's in his face.

-Tremendous parity in the A10. Outstanding teams coming to visit SLU. Lots of A10 teams in the top 100.

-Loe is improving and needs to keep doing so. Went from "incredibly soft when he came in" to "mediocrity in that regard" today. Is "contact-averse" but needs to improve inside. Product of international ball.

-Consistency is the key to success and making the Tournament. They don't let you in for a few great performances.

-St. Bonaventure: take Nicholson's game away. Double in the post. Take the perimeter away.

-"Sometimes I'm just too nice a guy...I used to be tyrannical. Sometimes I need to crack the whip a little more. Part of it lies with me..." and right after that thought, he had another thought and wrapped himself up for what Kilcoyne called the first time that ever happened.

He also said the blame starts with him for Saturday and he went on about that for a few minutes. I thought that was an important part of this interview considering some of the recent threads on here. He was not happy with himself, which is why he said he thought he might be too soft on them right now.
