  1. Right, because any other coach in the country would have no problem leading a team with all Fr. and So., in a season where his top recruit isn't on the floor, to a winning record.

What a joke, the team is young but they have talent, if anything it will be realized that he can still coach when they somehow manage to go .500 with the youngest team in the entire country.

RM's 3rd year. How many more would you like to give him?

  2. But you already said we were not keeping everyone. According to you a player we are counting on is transfering out. Did you already forget about that?

"2010-11 if we can keep everyone, we will see a turn around"

I was not very clear. What I was tring to say was if we could keep everyone next year. It is already a given that one more of last year's freshmen will not be playing this year barring a miracle.

  3. So I give an honest assessment and some on here call me a hater. If you like I can start posting that we will win 22-25 games next year and make the big dance. I could, but it wouldn't change anything. Every year other fans, and you can look back and see I have done the same, come on here and write what they hope for and not what is realistic.

Raw talent next year, yup. 20 wins and the NIT nope. But as I said in my previous post, 2010-11 if we can keep everyone, we will see a turn around.

  4. This will be a very tough year. Mitchell can't carry the team by himself and he has no proven help. My guess is 12-13 wins and a sub .500 season. How can anyone expect more? We have no one with the experience and talent of Kevin or Tommie coming back. The freshman may have talent but certainly are not ready to fill their shoes. We will also miss Barry's experience. By the way, does anyone else find it interesting that Kevin struggled for 2 years to produce under RM and now is getting multiple tryouts by NBA teams. Did RM hurt both him and Tommie?

2010-11 will be RM's last year if not this year. I also believe he will leave voluntarily without any pressue and use health or burnout as the reason. 2010 - 2011 team could be decent if there are no transfers after this season and that's a big if. I still maintain we are losing 1 more player this summer/fall, not neccessarily transferring out on his own. Discipline........................................

  5. You all can knock Roy all you want. It won't change what Majerus is. I can tell you from being on the inside that he is a horses a$$ period. He treats the players like $hit. Kevin and Tommie would have blown out this year if it would not have been their last year. I also know that another of the players you all are counting on for next year won't be back.

I know there are those inside the SLU basketball organization that believe that bringing the kids here from Australia is a travesty. They have never had to deal with someone like RM. I can't begin to imagine how they are going to come 3000 miles from home and stomach it.

Before you say it, let me address it. Yes all recruits can read about RM and know what to expect. They can read about him yes, but you can't understand it until you live it. I will cover all bets if anyone really believes the Aussies will make it 4 years at SLU if RM is there 4 more years.

Won't happen and by the end of next year I would bet you can add 3-5 more transfers out.

    RM knows basketball no doubt.

RM is taking out his anger at God or the world for never having the talent himself to play on the players!

  6. I honestly don't care if he knows what former players that he only coached for one season are doing after the have left. I really don't. Perhaps if he'd recruited them or known them for longer, he'd be more in touch with them.

Ok, so you are closer to the current situation than most of us and clearly feel like RM is a detriment to this team due to his treatment of players and indifference about what they do after they leave SLU. I have two questions for you:

    1. Based on what you've heard, Would you consider RM: worse, the same or not as bad as Bobby Knight on his treatment of players?

    2. Where do you see this program in 3 years? A roster full of really good players that will get into postseason play? A roster full of really good players that can't get into postseason play due to the personality of thier coach? Will we likely have a new coach, I assume you are not the only one that has noticed his poor treatment of this kids.

Obviously nobody knows for sure, but you can probably make a more educated guess than we can, since you are an insider.

I never said RM was a "detriment to this team".

I just stated what I have seen and what I have learned from certain individuals.

I was never involved with Bobby Knight so I could not fairly make a comparison.

As to where I see the rogram in 3 years.

We will see .500 ball this year and next which will be RM's last year. Some of this years freshmen won't be back (no surprise there) and if the new coach is from within, it may a long time before we return to the glory days.

  7. This kills me when people question RM's coaching style or handling of players. Since you are "close to the program", maybe you can help explain how he managed to compile a career record of 438-162 coming into this season while never having a losing season and taking a team to the national championship game in his career. Also, it wasn't like he as handed a national powerhouse when he had this success. He was at Utah. That has to be one of the hardest places in the country to sell to an 18 year old kid.

If he is that big of a piece of crap that can't handle college aged kids, how did Andre Miller, Keith Van Horn and numerous other players have so much success under him? How much better would those teams have been if he had the ability to develop leaders. Obviously he can't do it and wins anyway.

This may be hard for you to understand but I will try to explain it to you.

Have you ever watched and noticed how as people get older, they tend to be less tolerant and not understand how their kids could let their grandkids act as they do? Are the grandkids acting any different than their parents did? NO but the grandparents no longer have the tolerance, patience and proper attitude to deal with it. The older they get, the less they understand the ways of their grandkids and how to understand them.

There is no doubt RM had great success at Utah. No doubt that many players excelled playing for him. (Some also failed whether it was his fault or not).

The point is that what he did at Utah he did at Utah. Maybe he will eventually do it at SLU, maybe not. Understand that he is not the same guy today that he was 10 years ago. Ask Al Jensen if he has the same relationship with his players today that he had back when he played.

This doesn't make RM a bad person. How many CEO's have taken a company to great heights and then failed in their next job. That doesn't mean they weren't successful once does it?

Maybe RM is try to do too much too fast due to his age. Point is, if you were inside practices, listened to conversations (screaming matches that he has with players) and saw the whole picture, it might be clearer to you.

RM talks about past players that he says he keeps in touch with and would do anything for. No doubt he does, but that list is also short. I also know that he has had only 1 conversation with any of last years seniors. A players coach, I think not. Before you say they weren't his players, let me remind you how many times he said he loved Luke and would do anything for him.

He did not know as of Nov. 12th that:

    A. Where Luke was playing overseas-he's not.

    B. That Peyton is a grad asst. at Drake.

    C. That Bryce had back surgery after the season.

    D. If Dwayne was still living in Saint Louis or not.

Players coach that still relates-you tell me.

  8. Agree on all fronts.

As one who has been very close to the program, I will try to explain why I think there is a lack of leadership.

If you go through RM practices and are belittled day after day you do lose your confidence. When you are lacking confidence you lose trust in yourself. When you don't trust yourself, you can't lead others.

Blame the seniors if you want-personally I blame a coach that has no idea of how to communicate with players.

  9. Yea I bet he at the Cajun Cabin over on Bourbon right now. Probably wolfing down gumbo, etouffee and jumbalaya and listening to that sweet Cajun dance music.

It amazes me how guys that aren't qualified to hold the jock strap of a D-1 basketball player come on here and make fun of those that have made it to D-1. Even if they aren't "Studs" in college, they still have talent and have earned a scholarship-something most of those posting still only dream about.

  10. I don't know how much more specific I can get. For the 9,565th time. I don't really care if there is no penalty or a 1 year penalty as long as it's the same for both. It's not in any way shape or form fair to allow the school to pull a kids scholarship and then the kid gets punished. If the scholarships are renewable every year for the school they should be also for the kid.

You say if a kid got better he could just leave ... but isn't that what just happened at SLU except the school got better (or wants to) and now the kid that was good enough isn't anymore so the school got to just leave him.

It's not as hard as you make it out to be ... it's simple if the school drops a kid they get penalized a year as does the kid regardless of whose decision it is. Maybe the schools could do a better job of recruiting and selecting the right kids and the kids should be more careful and select a school they really want to go to ... oh no, let's not do that, it would be an improvement.

While were at it lets require coaches and schools to quit signing long term contracts that are a joke and only in place so the coach can tell the kid ... hell yea I'll be here they just extended my contract 11 years and then be able to leave next week. Allowing him to change his mind and not get penalized. The absolute fact of the matter is the only one who gets penalized for changing his mind is the kid ... and he gets penalized even if the school changes their mind.

    Your right ... I give it's fair.

The rules as they are now is that if a player transfers, they must sit a year. If they transfer and do not receive a release, they have to sit 2 years.

Why not change the rule so that they are eligible immediately with a release and must sit one year without the release. That way players won't be jumping every year but the players like the 4 from SLU could get a release and be eligible immediately.

  11. I hope this is a joke or sarcasm or something. If anyone is "hoping" for any kind of violations, then we have sunk to desperately new lows.

    Let me help this post make more sense;

Below is the post that was deleted last night by David-apparently some don't want the truth told.

I said we have now only 1 more step to become a top 25 program. So far we have done the following:

    1. Crapped on players that promises were made to for the good of the program. The players gave their all for nothing.

    2. Used an asst. coach to keep players from transferring while looking for a new coach and then crapping on the coach.

    3. Bringing in at least 7 players for next year so that we can cut some next year also.

    4. Built a new arena.

    5. Hired the big name coach.

    6. Raised the basketball budget.

    7. Broke a few NCAA rules for the good of the program, wait can't talk up this yet because we haven't been caught.

You can all think this is bull but then you haven't talked to the players.

Now all we need to do is win and we are a top 25 program.

I hope all the "boosters" that believe winning is number 1 are happy with the progress.

  12. Dustin will not gain another year of eligibility. You have a 5 year window in which you can play 4 years. If he plays at another D1 school, he will have to sit out another year (which would be his 3rd year ) and would only have 2 more years of eligibility, because he would have a total of 5 years at a D1 school. The only way he can have 3 more years of eligibility is if he goes to a D2 or lower school, which I think he will.

    You are correct-my bad.

  13. Does this mean the four that were released can play next year for a D1 program or must they sit out a redshirt year. I assume at least Maguire is free to play next year since he has already sat out a year. Hopefully all can play immediately.

No, all 4 will have to sit next year if they go to another Division 1 program. The only thing Dustin gained from red-shirting this year is 1 more year of eligibility-3 left instead of 2.

  14. Sarcastic or not? I can't tell. I sure hope it is.

The resume already speaks for itself and can't be erased. The rest is up to him; he's his own man and makes his own decisions. As long as nothing else interferes with his job, no one should have an issue with his lifestyle choices.

    Love your thought pattern-the "resume"...........................

OJ had a pretty good resume and then.............................

Not saying RM is another OJ but the past doesn't always dictate the future.

The banquet is scheduled for Monday the 14th at "The Restaurant at Chaifetz Arena" unless it has been canceled.

  15. How do you nicely say, RM has shown a player the door?

MR, AK, & DM are done for sure. Probably no official anouncement until after the banquet. Anthony is having or has just had knee surgery and is out for 2 months. Sounds like RM will let him stay as finding a school will be tough until the knee is healed.

What surprises me is that no one has mentioned that Coach Thorpe will also not be back (RM's decision). He was kept for the transition and knew it was more than likely a 1 year deal.

This will now be the norm with RM here. Every year players will be shown the door if RM can sign someone he thinks will be better. Winning will be number 1, taking care of the young men (players) is number 2.

  16. You mean dingleberry?

Most of the time member of media = classless. That is what they do, get the story by any means necessary and try to be the first to get it out.

I wonder if some of our signees won't qualify or if some of them will probably red-shirt. This is very unbalanced so far. Pretty soon there won't be anymore "I didn't choose them and they didn't choose me" talk this turnover in players is happening quick.

  17. I can't see any problems with a school taking a way a player scholarship as long as the player has the option of leaving the school at any time and transferring to another program and being eligible immediately. Shouldn't the players have the same option as the school?

How do we ever know if the player leaves or is booted. Doesn't matter what they say. I can imagine RM sitting down with the 4 players that will not be back next year, and they won't, and saying hey, you annouce you have decided to transfer, we will help you find a new school. If we have to boot you, no help. As a player, what would you do?
