ereeves is dead wrong, we were fuoking loud.

Loud enough for the team to point to us after the game. It would have been nice if the SLU groups could have all been together so the chants could have been coordinated, but I still think we were impressive. I was in a group midway between the students and the corral and oftentimes the chants were a couple seconds off, but both groups were loud enough to make the scattered butler fans in our section look uncomfortable.

  2. Speaking of the band I noticed Saturday they played "sing, sing, sing", most famously played by bennie goodman. I have never hdeard our band play it before (maybe I just don't get to my seat early enough). This is an extemely difficult swing song and the billiken band executed it perfectly! It now replaces "taking it to the streets" and "superstition" as my favorite pep band song! Great job band!

Man we have a great band.

Played in the band from 2000-04. "Sing, sing, sing" was one of my favorites. Didnt play it enough. The best part of being in the band was when we got to play for 15 (?) straight minutes before the game. Usually kicking off with "25 or 6 to 4". If you can get there early and go down by the band they put on a good show

  3. This is a little OT but Hooisers is one of my top 3 movies of all time. Ive read some articles and watched some documentries about that Milan High team. (The team the story was based on) And one thing that has always stood out to me is that they beat Oscar Robertson's team on the way to the state championship.

The big O was a sophomore and it was the only loss of his HS career. Him and his team went on to win the next two state championships.

Back on topic...a game changing scorer would be real nice,

Check out "bobby plump: last of the small town heroes" It's the story of the Milan Miracle. Follows bobby and Milan over his entire life, including today. He remained close friends with Oscar. Bobby has a bar in the Broad Ripple area of Indy called Plump's Last Shot. He loves to talk basketball. The book also talks about the Milan teams thoughts on the movie

  4. Yes I heard it but he also said that with BC and KC not returning so I think he was talking about the 2012-13 season. He had also talked about CR in a couple of prior interviews and I just do not see him pushing him out. I maybe see a possible redshirt conversation or a heart to heart about what maay be the problem. CR has the athletic ability and I think RM thinks the same thing but cannot figure out the lack of urgency. He started about the last 5 games so he must have been showing something in practice. RM has always said he starts the 5 that show the most in practice and are the most prepared to play at that time. I am not ready to give up on CR and I would be surprised if RM does.

It was a confusing few sentences, but that's what I gathered. Something like "everybody will be back but cassity and conklin and we have one recruit coming in and will get another."

  5. Are you kiddin me? Jordair defends the best guard every game. Do you even watch these boys play? obviously not cause if you did you would no that he is the best defender by far!! It sounds to me like you dont even watch the games thats bein played, JJ's by far the best defender on the Bill's team, who plays defense? KC lol, MM lol CS lol.. The commentators said if the NCAA had a all defense team JJ would easily make it.. Stop hatin and pay attention to the game hater # 2!! You guys are a joke!! Not real sports fans.. What do you play SCRABBLE, cause thats what it seems like joker

I love Jett (most bills fans do) and am looking forward to 3 more great years of him, so don't get mad. It's usually not a great idea for family members to post or read fan sites. You're just going to get mad about stuff that's said. You are quick to call out the negative stuff said about him and ignore the good stuff that is posted on here. Yes, he needs to cut his turnovers and work on his shot and D. Most freshman do. He is also our best athlete, extremely quick, can take it to the hole, will easily lead the team in steals, and had a fantastic put-back dunk last game. He will be an excellent player, but he has some things to work on, just like everybody else on the team.

  6. Sounds like a coach who is at the end of his rope. I will be really surprised if Rick is back next year.

Just angry over another frustratingly-close loss. He sounded much better after he cooled down and gave his Thursday interview. Ended it by praising his boys with the highest GPA in the conference, a med student, 2 students graduating after 3 years and scheduled to earn masters next year, and a freshman that could choose between pre-med and pre-law.

  7. "Mack's 'chess and checkers' quote"

i thought it was the best game majerus has coached since he came to slu.

he went through a period where he alternated defenses.

he threw the box and one out there a few times.

    he switched rotations,

    he switched matchups.

    he worked the refs.

    he showed more emotion.

I agree, Roy. Loved the passion he was showing. He wants that big win for these kids.

  8. We were very close then. I was in Row F about the middle of the section. Next to the giant guy with the red beard and huge blonde hair (who the slunatic girls were fawning over after the game).

I enjoyed the "do something" guy. My favorite line was when somebody told him that the student section must be hungover. He said, "That's no excuse. It's simple college math. Wake up, pound a few beers, stroll over to the stadium and yell like crazy! It's college. These kids are 18 and 19! No excuse." Hilarious.

The mullet guy was cracking us up. I would agree that he was a little slow. He would stand up and turn around during time outs, cross his arms, and smirk at the student section. He would occasionally yell something, but was drowned out by the students and I couldn't hear him. He thought the "thanks for supporting X athletics" line was the funniest thing he'd ever heard and repeated it at least 15 times.

The officials did a decent job (i.e. their usual blown call every 2 minutes or so) until the middle of the 2nd half. Then they took it HNL. The travel on Evans was unbelievable. Majerus and Mack were both all over the tall bald ref. That guy was terrible.

But, as usual, we can't blame the refs. You hit it right on the head. The offense works, we get great shots, we just can't make them! We missed so many in the last 10 minutes. The one I remember most is 1 minute left in the game, down by 6, McCall wide open 3, nothing but iron. That was ballgame. X did not miss an open 3 in the 2nd half.

The dinner call was between Terry's and Zip's. Terry's is a great experience all around.

  9. Just caught up on all the threads after returning from Cincinnati last night. It was an enjoyable game (that 2nd half was a lot of fun before the last 2 minutes) and weekend.

The SLUnatics were fantastic. We were sitting 10 rows in front of them and the X fans around us weren't happy with the X students. A guy kept yelling at the X student section/band to "do something." I think the X band spent half the game looking up at the SLU section. The X band finally started chanting "It's our house" or something like that with 30 seconds left AFTER the game had been decided. The X fans around us also started some trash talk (we made sure not to say anything directed at them when we were ahead) as they started to walk out of the game in the last minute. Their big line was "Thanks for supporting Xavier athletics with your money." ????? After some banter back and forth a gentleman with a nice mullet said "I'll be right here next game. Where will you be?" Not sure what that meant, but obviously not at a Xavier game if SLU isn't there. The SLUnatics had some clever chants. The X fans enjoyed the "What's that blue thing?" chant.

Rosey, I agree that our fans get up for X and we've been waiting a long time for a weekend game at an opponent we can travel to. However, in talking to X fans they are very similar to SLU fans in that they are an older crowd that sits on their hands until big runs or the ball toss. Or until they play UC. They are though, for the most part, a very friendly crowd.

The X band was decent, but only played a couple of times. A lot of piped in music was played.

Speaking of bands, SLUnatics how about a bighead of Mike Bizcala (sp?), the band director? The man is a legend.

Wore the SLU gear around town the rest of the day. Ran into some other SLU folk/people interested in SLU.

Definitely recommend Terry's Turf Club for a great eating experience.

  10. didnt matter who guarded james. he ate them alive. conklin, remeken, evans, jett and cassity all took at least a turn trying to guard him. didnt matter. no one could stop him. in hindsight, barron is an idiot for not clearing out the rest of the players earlier in the game.

another thing i liked about james was i dont recall him acting like an A$$ after scoring (at will). i also saw him smile and tap a few of the little guys at halftime as they came off the court.

It was a very impressive showing. Was it just me or did it seem the RI guards started pouting a little at the end about the ISOs? I remember on one play Richmond handed the ball to James beyond the 3 point line and then went and stood over by the RI bench with his hands on his hips, waiting for James to drive and shoot it. And another time, out by halfcourt, James came out for the ball and the guard didn't want to give it to him at first.

If it's working, you have to run it till the Bills stop it, but I know that can be frustrating for the rest of the team. Still, it got them a W.

  11. Given that I have been going to games for about 30 years, have had season tickets for about 20 and support the program financially at a significant level, I think you are pretty much of a moron to suggest that I am a fair weather fan, but, hey, what do I know.

Alright, alright, not a fairweather fan. I just don't see the point of commenting on the game and saying you're glad you were at home, or that you've given away tickets for the next few games or whatever. These kids are out there working hard under unfortunate circumstances and we've seen a lot of growth, not just on the season, but in the last few games. JJ sat the first 10 minutes a few games ago and has been solid since. Hit his shots tonight, had some great drives (loved the reverse where he hung in the air) and only had one turnover. Unfortunately, it was a big one. Cody continues to improve. Corey has a whole new energy with Asst. Coach Kwamain on the bench and Willie "sticks" Reed banging the drums. Dwayne continues to impress. Christian was a 100% shooter tonight.

Things are definitely looking up. Yes, it will continue to be rough the rest of the year. But these kids are working hard and improving and definitely not giving up. (hopefully) this will lead to good things next year. These baby billikens weren't members of the student conduct board (not that we know of), so if you can, get out and let them know you appreciate their efforts.
