  1. I know that the schedule is final, but that they're waiting on times from the Savvis. I wonder if the NHL goes on an extended strike if we can get some of the Saturday games moved to 7 o'clock tips? Does anyone think this is possible? I prefer Sat. night games over the day. Much more buzz, more students show up, people go out to dinner and then for some cocktails later.

  2. Here.

    So our December schedule includes:

    Sat. Dec. 11 Gonazaga

    Sat. Dec. 18 Dayton

    Fri. Dec. 31 Iowa

I'll take that. That's a good SOS right there. Dayton is playing Cincy, DePaul, Vandy, and Wyoming this year too. Gonzaga plays Mizzou, OK State, Ga Tech, and Illinois. Iowa has Texas Tech.

I used to work in the Media Relations Dept at SLU. It's more of the league's fault in getting schedules out. They try to make the best ESPN matchups (every team has to have at least one appearance). It should be out by mid-August though.

  3. Usually released in late spring or early summer. Virginia should be coming here. At least that's what their coach said at the MAC banquet in 2003. We played there last year and they're here this year, I think in a tourney. I may swing by Sat. afternoon to check a bit of it out. Don't know if Wisconsin is good though.

  4. Deb Peterson's column in the Post-Disgrace said we're heading to Duke. I didn't read any posts with such a title so I thought I'd post this. And I know it's been talkeda bout and talked about, but now it's confirmed, apparently. Game will be on ESPN.

A good move. Helps RPI immensely. Good challenge. National TV. And it's Duke. I don't care if we get smoked. We're saying to other programs we're not afraid to take anyone on. Nice job, Brad and athletic Dept.

  5. My cousin goes to Duchesne and has played some pickup ball with him. He said he's a pretty good player, good ballhandler and shooter for an 8th grader, for playing against high schoolers. But he heard he's not going to Duchense. Brad may be sending him to a public school out there, which I guess is either of the St. Charles. Duchense was terrible this year so I guess that's the reason.

Go Bills. I think this would be the sweetest win of the year. On the road, full house, snooty crowd and school.

  6. First of all, as someone noted earlier, it was painful to watch him play. When we were down by 20, I was screaming at BS to take him out. But what a helluva effort.

Anyway, if they continue to make/let him play, I think he should try shooting his free throws underhanded. I don't think it would be as painful--he's not really lifting his shoulder all the way above his head.

And speaking of free throws, we may have been in that game the entire first half had we made them. I think we were 0-7 at one point.

Well, I was avoiding the board during our winning streak for karma reasons. That's over now. Let's get two of these last three and see what happens in the tourney. An NIT berth is not disappointing. Kind of figured that's what it probably would be in November.

  7. First, my girlfriend said they're tearing down Waring School. Good.

Second, where does everyone think the students should sit in the new arena? Should they bump out the alumni from one side and give them prime half court seating? Or stick then on the baseline again?

I don't know. I would like to have them on the sidelines, but at the same time, not enough attend to give them that privilege. Would it be an incentive for them to go if they knew they were on the side? I don't know.

    Thoughts?

  8. I haven't read all the threads but judging by the titles, it doesn't appear anyone is talking about the game tomorrow.

Let's get the enthusiam back up. We need this one. And I think Brad will have the guys ready. A week off, Memphis coming off a big win, our guys knowing they really need this one if they want an at-large bid at all. I think it'll be a nice game. Memphis wasn't all that impressive versus Mizzou earlier this year and they beat a UL team without Dean and Garcia.

    Go Bills.

  9. Since the game is on ESPN Fullcourt, does nayone think that Humphrey's will have the game this Saturday? I thought I saw in the paper that it will be on Charter, but I'm assuming (big assumption) that Humphrey's has the Full Court package and can get the game.

I still think it's sad that the bar that defines SLU doesn't pick up the home games, especially with Jan as a big supporter. That bar could make a killing on road games.

  10. Negative, ghost rider. Just a fan taking his initials and number. I wish SLU would produce Bonner throwback jerseys (Mitchell and Ness probably have no clue who he is). I'd pick one up in a heartbeat. But the Athletic Department is having enough trouble with buses and promoting the games and the arena, so I'm not going to hold my breath.

  11. I love that Frank is a huge homer during broadcasts, but last night he was killing us. Every time he said a good thing about SLU, we did something bad. The best example was when we had the 12-point lead in the first half. Every watching the game was thinking: "This is unbelievable. Up by 12 AT Charlotte. We're playing extremely well."

Then he says: "Who would have thought the Billikens would be up by 12?" You just knew then that Charlotte would make a run. It happened a couple other times, like "Charlotte hasn't made a three yet" then bang. I wish Frank could stop saying what every fan is thinking, but him being a big fan, I guess that's why: he's just like us when he watches the games.

Obviously, Frank didn't cost us the game. But it's just one of those things, ya know?

Anyway, it was a tough loss. Kind of stings. If Frericks keeps getting in foul trouble, we're doomed on the forward line. Ohahon and Greek dude can't handle quick powerful forwards. Let's hope Brad and the staff get things turned around for Saturday. I have a feeling they'll use this loss as a great teaching point in practice. Also I think it helps we're staying on the road the rest of the way. Can get two full, hard practices in before Saturday. If they came home, it'd be a little tougher on the body to recover then play on the road again.

  12. Bring home a winner, SLU72.

We'll all be watching here in St. Louis. As someone else said, I've been thinking about this one since Saturday at 2:45 p.m. I think that's the first time I can say that in a long while, thinking about a Bills game that far in advance, looking forward to it, and thinking we can win this thing. It would make the next 10 days a lot easier if we won tonight. We get that road win we're looking for on the trip out of the way and can breathe a sigh of relief as we play UAB and Memphis, knowing that losing those two games doesn't necessarily kill us (althought it'd be nice to sweep all three.)

This is so exciting. It's like 1994-95 all over again. That realization after a long slump that your team may have what it takes (Sorry. Going to the dance in 2000 was great, but that was an up-and-down, frustrating team to watch, and the 1998 team, we were just two years removed from the tourney and had Hughes and almost expected to be there. In reality, this has been a frustrating and inconsistent program since 1996).

My apologies for bringing up the past. Let's get a solid win tonight and celebrate til Saturday at 6:30.

  13. Is there any chance we can get Tatum's old lawyer to help TL take the test untimed?

Just a joke, guys, just a joke. I hope everything turns out well with him and he's wearing Billiken blue next fall. Meyer and him on the wings could be a lot of fun the next couple years.

  14. For what it's worth regarding the five-second call from the MU-SLU game: In yesterday's Michigan State-Purdue game, Clark Kellogg said that he thought the 5-second closely guarded rule is called when a player does not make a move toward the basket, which is what I think Coach Soderberg said about the call in our game. There were 3 five-second calls in that game. Amazing.

Also, I like Owens. How could you not like the deep voice. Remember when Claggett sank a three--Errrwinnnn Claaaaaggett! Great. He's what a PA announcer should be: no-nonsense. Report who's entering the game, leaving it, who scored, who was called for the foul, and read the advertisements. Phillips goes over the edge sometimes and that's annoying.

Big three-game stretch. I'm of the belief we need to win two. If we win one, that's fine, but we'll definitely need to win all our home games and pick up that Tulane game. Which makes us 11-5. Win 2 and we're 12-4 with the above happening, and I don't think the committee can turn us down then.

  15. Does any here believe that "Grand Center" is worthy of being described as an area of the city, like a Soulard or West End? I don't. It's a strip of theatres with little or nothing else to do around them and then SLU. It's what, three blocks? There's Vito's, Best Steak House (awesome place), Gary's and Jazz at the Bistro. No stores or the like. People come to the Fox or Symphony and leave the area.

Will the new arena help the "area?" I don't think so. They're building the arena at a developed-locked site, meaning one will not be able to add a restaurant or bar or anything around it. The arena will be an island. Harris-Stowe is to the east, 40 to the south, and then SLU owns the rest of the property around it. Just east on Market there's Y98 and then a strip mall, then Sigma and AG Edwards. People will still have to walk form Humph's if they want a burger and beer before the game. The only area that can be developed is the old Firehouse and that strip east of Compton on Olive.

I love we're getting an on-campus arena. It's a perfect size for SLU, and it adds to the campus. But I don't think it will necessarily improve the area of Grand Center.

  16. I think we have the potential to go 11-5. And this year, I have to say I'm the most confident about SLU in a long while. In the past, we would have lost games to TCU on the road and get shellacked in Milwaukee. This season, I think we can all say that we feel we have a shot going into every game. Sure, historically, we never play well in Charlotte or UAB. It just seems this year is different. Everyone is playing well and Brad is doing a heck of a coaching job.

We've got to lock in Brad for a long-term deal. SLU can be a St. Joseph's-like program. Martelli is a solid coach and he's been there a while, developing the Hawks into a nice program. Brad can do the same.

As far as the rotation, I really would like to see Johnson in there for 10 mintues a game. He played in garbage time SAturday, but he worked hard. You could tell he was trying to show off to the coaches that he really wants to play. Varner should be sitting next to the student trainer.

  17. Hey all,

My girlfriend found this site and referred it to me. This is fantastic. Now I have a place to go to hear what people have to say after the games and during the week. Most of my SLU friends live out of town and are out of touch with the program.

Surprised to see USM beat Memphis. Could be closer than I thought tomorrow. The three-game homestand is huge. Love the way the team is playing.

Check back later. I enjoy the banter.
