Good God people. Come off the ledge. I seriously doubt anyone here would pass up an opportunity to play at Duke and a chance for a national championship if you were only going to play college hoops for one season. This program did not get an increase in blue chip recruits when Hughes came nor would we if Tatum had come. People would have complained if they did not recruit Tatum just like they are now that they spent too much time on a kid who never was planning on coming to SLU anyway.
The program is not in the toilet nor is this the death of the program. We played primarily freshman and sophomores last year. We are not Kentucky. Our freshman cannot come in and dominate from day one like Kentucky.
Anyone who thinks Crews should have been dismissed after last season should not follow college basketball any longer. However, this is a big season from Crews. THe team has to improve or that seat will become hot.

What does that even mean?

Can't get tweet to post from my phone but here's a tweet from Meyer to someone who tweeted at him saying the gentlemanly thing to do would be to not lead SLU on.
@jerrymeyer247: @docpurcell If narrative is true St. Louis coaching staff isn't being led on. Fan base is.

If I remember correctly several months ago there was talk of some open practices towards the end of this month. Anyone have any news about this?

I've seen some other boards do this and it seems pretty popular among all the members. Basically just 15 "prop bets" that everyone picks and you see who has the most correct at the end of the season.
1. Who will score the first point for the Billikens this season? Ash
2. How many games will the Billikens win this season (after all postseason)? 15
3. Who will lead the Billikens in points this season? Ash
4. Who will lead the Billikens in assists this season? McBroom
5. Who will lead the Billikens in rebounds this season? Agbecko
6. What will be the higher total? Billikens wins in nonconference OR Billikens wins in conference (regular season only)? Non conference
7. How many times will the Billikens win the opening tip? 17
8. How many road games will the Billikens win (does not count neutral sites)? 4
9. How many players will average 10+ points per game? 2
10. What will be the higher total? Total combined points by freshman + sophomores OR total combined points by juniors + seniors? Fresh and Soph
11. What will be the higher total? Austin McBroom + Ash Yacoubou made 3 pointers OR everyone else made 3 pointers? everyone else
12. What will be the highest single game point total for a Billiken this season? Over/Under 24.5? under
13. In what calendar month will the Billikens have the most wins (credit is given if multiple months end tied)? Dec
14. Who will have more wins as of December 1st? Saint Louis Billikens or St. Louis Rams? Billikens
15. How many postseason games will the Billikens win (includes A10 Tournament, NCAA, NIT, CBI)? 1
TIEBREAKER: What will be the average attendance for Billiken home games this season? (Closest to actual average wins tiebreak) 8250
*ALL props include the Rockhurst game*
I plan to update this after every game so we can see live standings. The boards that do this seem to have more fun with it.
Entries due Saturday at 6:59 pm.

I appreciate the fact that they spelled it Saint Louis. Very nice.

Billiken fans can mark their calendars for a season-kickoff event on Saturday, Oct. 13, at Chaifetz Arena. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. for a practice session that will already be in progress. The practice will end with an intrasquad scrimmage, and players and coaches will stick around for a meet-and-greet. Additional information on the event will be released as soon as possible.

I think the real point is that many are just getting sick of saying, 'Hey, its better than nothing.' 'It is a step in the right direction.' 'At least they tried.' Many are just getting tired of constantly making excuses or apologizing for things being done poorly, or not at all.
This team is coming off of a terrible season and has seen the city become disinterested in them. While the hardcore fans, the ones who always buy the season tickets, have reason to be excited about this season knowing the talent they have, what has the program done to get the so-called casual fan interested? While it is true that winning will take care of most of this, why wouldn't the athletic department do its best to create some excitement?
Ask yourself this: If you brought a friend of yours, one who is not a die-hard Billiken fan, to the Fan Fest last night, would he have come away excited about this coming season? Would he have felt a need to get some tickets to some early season games? Probably not. He would have felt that he was brought to a short team practice and was told that the players need to get out of there quickly so try not to bother them too much on your way out. And make it quick if you do bother them.
Last night wasn't the end of the world and doesn't set the program back or anything like that. It is just more of the same old, same old that we have allowed ourselves to get used to. Would it hurt the department, and the coach, to try to do something that actually entertains the fans that come out? Maybe have some video intros of the players and allow them to come out one by one, have the SaintSations on hand, play an ACTUAL scrimmage, maybe let some of the players do a little dunkoff, just anything to give your fans some entertainment, get them worked up for the season that starts. Just throw in some razzle-dazzle for once.
Basically, if you are going to do something, do it right, or don't do it all. Don't do it half-a$$ed. Doing something with little effort makes people more upset than if you didn't do it at all.
Excellent post!!

Is there an open practice today at 4:30?

When was the last time, if ever, we got this much recruiting info about the Bills for free (sorry, Nate)? Way to go HTB and keep it up. Much appreciated.
100% agreed
