Majerus' attention to detail is probably hard for anyone to match, but what we're seeing now just seems go be way too relaxed with no precision whatsoever.
MY and AY are aggressive players. Coaches need them but they must be developed properly so that aggression pays off because their skills have been properly harnessed. Most importantly the reps they need to make those shots effective must also be there. Alot of time both kids look like they are just making it up as they go along. Not good for the team. Winning is not luck and neither is making those kinds of buckets.
I think these two posts are spot on. Attention to detail, which requires discipline and practice, discipline and practice, discipline and practice, seems to be lacking. Not sure about AY, but MY does not seem disciplined and maybe he is chafing under a system that requires more discipline. Now, to be fair, it may also be that Crews just doesn't have the disciplined, almost Asperger's like focus that Majerus had (and not many do have).
Execution is just not crisp out there and if the "good kids" buy in and try, but the "bad kids" do not, that is going to make for A) divisions on the team as I mentioned in another post and B. a coaching nightmare.

A couple players developed (MC/RA), and Davell Roby showed he can be a key player going forward.
That's more or less it on the positives.
I think MB shows a lot of promise too. AG will take time, but I think he could still be very good.

I am giving Crawford and Agbeko stars because I see them as a 'fit' for moving forward. Crawford may never start, but having a sub come off the bench for 7 to 9 ppg, can hit the 3 and FT, fits in for me. Agbeko has taken the roll that I foresaw Glaze having this year and next year. He is the rebounder we envisioned, and as he works on his hands, he will have value moving forward.
You may not agree and that is fine.
RA will be a starter. MC could be a starter IF his defense improved. He can get to the rim. He can shoot the three. He is smart. He always plays hard. And he seems to have the right attitude.

Total hypothetical here but would you rather have Tatum + Crews for the 2016-17 season or neither?
Seriously? Not even close. Getting Tatum would be a game changer. I don't think it will happen, but definitely a game changer.

The problem isn't Crews forgot how to coach. He was never more than an average coach. With us he has been a disengaged average coach.
It isn't time to give him for the prior two seasons, but ask how many games he cost us during those two seasons.
I sit almost directly behind where Crews stands during games. He may be a lot of things, but disengaged is not one that comes to mind.
My opinion is not that Crews has lost 'the team", but that a few players have perhaps revolted. I think that has led to divisions within the team. I think it shows during the game. Even the best coach or manager struggles under that type of situation.
JC is the same coach who almost beat VCU and GW. it was shortly thereafter that things really began to go south. And this was also close to the time of the MY quotes which definitely may have alienated some of his teammates.

No, it's really not. I am much harder on Crews than 72's analysis.
Jim Crews did a good job leading a tournament-level team to the tournament. That's good. What has happened this year...that's bad. The RM team that JC coached after Coach Majerus passed...JC did well with those kids. This year, not so much.
I think you actually just agreed with me. Slu72, who is a great fan, was talking about the two COY seasons harshly. Your assessment and mine on those two seasons are essentially the same.

JCs two COY awards came with a pre fab team where he could step back and just watch. Make sure travel plans went smoothly and the uniforms were washed. This year required a totally different mind set, ie be a real coach. After watching just about every game this season, it looks like he forgot how to coach. They say, the best thing about FR is they become SOPHs, but if they're still not buying whatever it is your selling, you'll likely end up with the same old same old.
That is an overly harsh assessment of the last two seasons.

If that is how you feel, it's all the more reason to get rid of Crews now. After all, the Billikens just came off of three consecutive NCAA tournament seasons that were three of the best, if not THE best seasons in the modern Billiken era. It should have been prime time to score big in recruiting.
My personal opinion is that the current Billiken talent is fairly decent; they just have a coach that is mediocre, at best, which is reflected in his 30 year record. If he remembered anything that the great Bobby Knight taught him about self respect,, he would have already resigned. Justin Tatum won't attend a Jim Crews coached Saint Louis University.
Since many of the players read these posts, and value the wisdom of us sages, here is my advice: When the season ends, circulate a petition to be signed by the entire team, that calls for Coach Crews termination. Then, gather as a team, and deliver the petition to the AD. Good Luck!

Wow..will you be here all night? Glad we are in third grade. Why do you all defend crews endlessly what photos does he have of you? seriously? HE IS ONE OF THE WORST COACHES IN AMERICA AND DESTROYED A PROGRAM. Isn't it obvious?
You need closure, but you won't find it here. Maybe you should just talk to Crews and address your issues. You know what I am talking about.

Forget senior night. You won't be seeing any of the Freshman with talent anymore either. Say goodbye to Bartley Yarbrough and Roby. Maybe more.
Remember Crews got fired at Army for over disciplining players. And he can't even coach on top of it. He thinks he is Bob Knight, his idol.
Problem is couldn't even hold Knight's Jock....
And you couldn't even wear it seeing as you would have to have something to fill it.

Well said. I've done my fair share of grumbling too. But it will take much more than a disastrous season to stop me from loving my Billikens. Bills fan for life.

Sure Alumni ----- if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all. Same goes for the facts. Essentially both guys had nondescript careers. They won in spite of themselves because their collective teams were much better and defined the term "got carried." But SLU has had a lot of those guys ----Troy Robertson included.
So Taj, let's make OURSELVES feel better by just beating the living out of people verbally. Yep, that works, especially on a national broadcast. You are frustrated, I get that, and you are a great fan, but your frustration is skewing your perspective. Let's face it, about 0.000001% of the world population cares, yet some of us are melting down over a bunch of primarily teenagers playing netball. Perspective, my friend.
