Even in the awful A-10, how do you think SLU will finish based on he way they've starterd the season? I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not confident of even NIT for this bunch. What's your take?
Looking at the remaining schedule, my guess is in the 20--11 range...which wasn't good enough for the NIT last year.

Our Star Coach doesn't care for our Star Player.
This is a problem.

Bernie directly quoting a message board is questionable definitely...but that's a topic for a COM 101 class...what I'm more interested in is this: What IS going on with TL and Majerus? I've read quotes where Majerus says of TL, "I don't see a pro out there..." Obviously he's taking a tough love approach...but I just hope we're seeing a Coach Norman Dale from "Hoosiers" thing...where he got Jimmy Chitwood to play by acting as if he didn't care if he did or not...to this point, in a way, I agree with TDELL, whether that's TL's dad or not....he's right...Tommie showed amazing flashes the last two years....now, he's looking more like another Virgil Cobben.

My thoughts and prayers to your family, BF05. I'm happy to hear the SLU community came up big for your uncle.

Or any highlights uploaded from GW win? Help a distant brother out?

Realize I'm not breaking new ground here...but watching the closing minutes of last night's St. Joseph's game, I couldn't believe the similarities. TL hadn't done much...but when a tight back and forth game got into the final stretch, they just gave Tommie the ball and let him create for himself---and he was money. Just like Larry and the NCAA tourney win over UMass in '98. NOT SAYING TL is at lottery pick-level yet...but it's the first time since then I've seen that type of performance by a SLU player.
p.s. Ian stunk

Not being sarcastic on Brad's recruiting---I just don't remember. Someone asked me recently how a semi-pro player from Athens wound up at SLU...and I had nothin'.

Can't find one on the net yet...anyone who saw it wanna try their hand at being Tom Timmerman? I've seen the box score...just a blow by blow of the finish...
-
this is still pie-in-the-sky conjecture---BUT, keep in mind the selection committee favors teams that finish hot. A 19 or 20 win streaking team from the A-10 could get the nod over a 22 win fading team from a similar conference.

you're right. I forgot LaSalle was so good.

Don't laugh...at least not out loud---yet. SLU's 14-10 right now...if you factor in a road loss at Charlotte while taking care of business at home---at the same rate they have been---the Bills are 17-11 going into the A-10 Tourney. If---IF---they continue to catch lightning in a bottle...by the end of the league tourney they'd have to be on ESPN's "bubble watch".
-
yeah, that's what I meant by 'bump'...so I guess that's a "no" on a reliable place for SLU highlights on the internet...must be a video/copyright deal....I'll just have to rely on highly descriptive narratives of Tommie's manuevers and game winning J's.

Anyone know a good place with streamed video highlights/coverage of the Bills? I've checked KSDK, KMOV and KTVI and didn't see anything.

Roy...you and I agree on this, but for what it's worth...In his three years at ISU, Bird averaged 32.8 ppg, 30, and 28.6.
Morrison's year to year ppg is 11, 19, 28.
If Morrison DOES turn out to be the next Larry---fine by me.
But ask yourself this:
Do you see Morrison going to one of the NBA's worst teams and winning them a title in his second year with them?
Or ever winning three straight MVP's?
-
I looooove what I've seen of Adam Morrison, I think he'll make a fine NBA player and I'm psyched SLU is playing his team. But let's not get nuts...it seems everytime there's a white college player who can score from the forward position the Larry Bird comparisons come up. Larry Bird averaged 30 points for Indiana State for THREE straight seasons. He averaged almost 15 rebounds for his career. His last year he also averaged almost six assists. And, lest we forget, he carried a bunch of nobodies to the NCAA Final in a matchup against Magic Johnson that still rates as a game for the ages. Morrison is averaging 28 points per game but only about 1 assist and six boards a game. The college game hasn't seen the likes of Larry Joe Bird since 1979...not white, black, red, blue or brown. I know, I know...Morrison has the shaggy hair and the cheesy mustache and he looks like he drives to the gym in a '79 Camaro. But that's where the similarities end. Larry Bird was absolutely TRANSCENDENT on the hardwood. Adam Morrison is a notch or so above Kyle Korver (who's doing quite nicely for the Sixers, btw). Let's not confuse Rex Hudler with Stan Musial.

I know Charlie Weiss will tell you there's no such thing as a "moral victory"...but after watching the game on TiVo this morning, I can say I'm pretty pumped about SLU hoops...and it's been a couple years since that...first time in a while seeing IV, first time EVER for Liddell, Lisch...SLU's DEFINITELY gonna win games this year. I really like this group.

Goaty...if you don't actually know the man...or what's at stake here...stay out of it...yes, Fr. Doody speaks his mind in a way you don't normally expect from a priest...that's precisely why he was so valuable to SLU. Let the adults discuss this.

Anyone know the address?

great write up

It's a stupid, teasing comment to fire up thin-skinned SLU fans. Saying the MVC is too good for SLU is an obvious attempt to bait Billiken fans.
-
true enough...but I really don't see SLU cracking the top 25 in '07 at this rate.
-
Roy...OK, I'll take the bait on whether this is a more discouraging season than Highmark and Claggett's 5-23 freshman year---just for fun.......the debacle of that year gave us Debbie Yow rising to prominence, Charlie Spoonhour (and, by extension, Donnie Dobbs and H. Waldman), the dawn of the Great Midwest Conference, Northwestern transfer Evan Pederson and our only top 25 rankings. All of that happened BECAUSE of the 91-92 squad. If this current crew pays off with ANYTHING close to those results...I'll happily eat crow.

SLU will be a national laughingstock for a day or two. I never dreamed Majerus would put the Billikens on
the national stage for something LIKE THIS.
Again---I keep clinging to my belief that this will have a happy ending---like when
the team and the community figure out what Normal Dale (Gene Hackman) is trying to do in the movie "Hoosiers".
But today---America knows us only as 'losers'.
