Quality Is Job 1
In a tune-up against Croatia last night, the Greek Junior National Team lost 81-80, playing much of the game without its coach, who was ejected for accruing two technical fouls. Ian Vouyoukas scored 9 points. The article is http://www.basket.gr/wcj2003/press.asp?id=126 or you may find it by going to http://www.basket.gr/wcj2003/index.asp , clicking on "news," and then clicking on the link next to the story, "Friendly loss in Croatia (81-80)." The squad plays another tuneup tonight (this afternoon, our time).
kwyjibo
I like the fact the Greek got two technicals in the first half of an exhibition. Maybe he can coach at Cincy someday.
davidnark
It's great to see that he scored 9 points in a game in which at least 12 players on his team saw some minutes. Thicks, keep the updates coming.
davidnark
Ian's minutes may be sharply reduced this Friday. Sofoklis Schortsianitis, who at 17 was the youngest player ever taken in the NBA draft, joins the Greek team on Friday. Sofo is also a 6'10" forward/center. http://www.nba.com/draft2003/profiles/Scho...isSofoklis.html
Quality Is Job 1
With a birthday of June 22, 1985, he had turned 18 by the time he was drafted. I thought the NBA required foreign players to be at least 20. When did they change that rule?
Basketbill
Interesting thing about this guy is that when the NBA measuered him he was only 6'8".....but they still described him as a baby Shaq. I gathered by the article I read that he was more of a power forward...so maybe Ian will continue to play
thetorch
This year they changed the rule to accomodate the young ages of Darko Millicic, Maciej lampe and Shortsianitis.
