kwyjibo
The World Junior Basketball championships in Greece will feature SLU's Ian V. playing for the hosts and Ryan Hollins for the USA. The World Championships are July 10-20 but there are warm-up tourneys starting now. Vouyoukas/Vougioukas will be warming up against against different competition (Argentina, Australia, and Croatia) than the US team (warming up in Dallas tourney). While the USA will not play Greece in the warm-up tourneys or the prelimary round at the World Championship. There is a strong chance that USA/Greece or Vouyoukas/Hollins will see each other in the semi's or finals (as they are both expected to do well). Spain won 4 years ago (Gasol?) and Greece won 8 years ago but the USA had won 3 of the previous 4 (with only Lithuania winning with two young unknowns named Kukoc and Divac prior). I will keep this board posted if interested but this official website will have most of the info: http://www.basket.gr/wcj2003/index.asp The rest of the USA lineup is (4 cuts still left but Hollins should make it--see the results from the first tune-up game http://uclabruins.ocsn.com/sports/m-baskbl...70103aaa.html): NAME POS HGT WGT DOB YOG COLLEGE or HIGH SCHOOL (#+COLLEGE) / HOMETOWN 9 Mohamed Abukar F 6-9 200 01/01/85 2003 Rancho Bernardo High School / #Florida / Escondido, CA 16 Maurice Ager G 6-4 187 02/09/84 2006 Michigan State / Detroit, MI 11 De’Angelo Alexander F 6-5 215 01/21/84 2006 Oklahoma / Midwest City, OK 17 Brandon Bowman F 6-8 210 10/15/84 2006 Georgetown / Santa Monica, CA 5 Daniel Brown G 6-1 175 08/17/84 2006 Illinois / Maywood, IL 13 Graham Brown C 6-9 250 08/19/84 2006 Michigan / Mio, MI 19 David Burgess F 6-10 255 02/14/86 2004 Woodbridge High School / Irvine, CA 15 Paul Davis F 6-11 245 07/21/84 2006 Michigan State / Rochester, MI 21 Ryan Hollins C 6-11 215 10/10/84 2006 UCLA / Pasadena, CA 7 Daniel Horton G 6-3 197 04/21/84 2006 Michigan / Cedar Hill, TX 14 Brian Johnson F 6-9 230 08/16/86 2004 Bishop O'Connell High School (VA) / Glenarden, MD 8 Jonathan Modica F 6-4 198 09/26/84 2006 Arkansas / Smackover, AR 12 Kevin Pittsnogle F/C 6-10 225 07/30/84 2006 West Virginia / Martinsburg, WV 18 Mitch Platt F/C 6-10 225 01/12/85 2003 Green Valley High School / #Oregon / Henderson, NV 10 J.J. He went to the NCAA regionals in high jump, long jump, and triple jump. He would have made a good Billiken.
Quality Is Job 1
I'd been trying to find something on the Junior World Championships. I'm not interested in Ryan Hollins' exploits, though.
