We’ve had seasons where it hasn’t even been in the realm of possibility to win a road game like this.  To win a road game against a decent WCC team really tells you how we are this year.

That was a bad basketball team.  If this is, as someone said, a Q1 win, then the Q system is a lie and needs to be blown up.

Observations:  Avila is as earthbound as a center can be but he boxed out well on this go around.

McCottry is a walking turnover.  He doesn’t handle the ball well but needs to because his game is all drive-and-shoot.

Green is the best of the bombers; maybe Dunlap will get better but right now he and Sharma are inconsistent.

Brown and Jones allow us to win rebounding battles; Thames might be a highlight reel but his offensive game needs work.

If LMU finishes above .500 in the WCC I’ll be stunned.  Maybe that 6’6” PG will do the trick but that team was not good yesterday.  Damn!  One rebound away from 8 and 0.

Was referring to Santa Clara as the Q1 in response to the 2-1 Cali trip.  LMU likely Q3 but could move to Q2

SLU’s NET today is a very good 35, best in the A10.

After last night's victory over LMU Team Rankings has SLU at an overall 46 ranking, close to VCU at 43, and over Dayton at 71. This is very good for SLU. If we keep this ranking we may get enough attention to get an at large spot at the Dance.

This is the kind of paranoid thinking I wish were less prevalent. This is the A10, not the MVC. Just because a thing happened once, doesn't mean it's always going to happen. Nights like last night where the conference goes 6-1 including some decent wins, helps.

SLU has got to win out in OOC, including against SF, and they need to blow out these crap teams by 30 or 40 to keep the NET in the 30s when conference play starts.

I’ll go out on a limb and say their O and D efficiency numbers were worse.  Don’t know though

Look it's not a one time thing.   The committee has been sticking it to non power conference schools for awhile now.   And it's only going to get worse.   The power schools don't want to share and even though the committee is made up of more non power school reps than power school reps, it doesn't have to take a genius to see the committee is in on it.

We now have a good sample size for this season.  I know that "starting is for high school", but at some point there will be a main 5.

Green, Brown, Avila, and Jones are bona fide starters.  Jones is really starting to get the Schertz system.

The 5th starter will come from Thames, McCottry, or Sharma.

Dunlap and Otieno still finding their games, but will continue to have a role going forward

Minutes from last night may be more indicative of Schertz' thoughts moving forward.  Jones 30, Green 27, Avila 25, Sharma 23, Brown 22, Thames and McCottry both 19, Dunlap 17 and Otieno 16.

Those minute allocations seem just about right to me.   

Schertz reminds me of Spoonhour in many ways, including the fact that his post-game comments always indicate he's not missing a thing and that he's identified the issues.   I also like how Schertz said (in Stu's article) how this trip provided adversity.  In the right environment, adversity fuels growth.

If this team is going to be really good you need McCottry playing a major role. I know his turnovers have been a problem but he offers something no one else does. Penetration off the dribble. The board is selling him way too  short way too early.

I think at this point Thames needs to be a starter with the other 4 you mentioned vs Mccottry. Thames doesn't turn the ball over, shoots better from the field and free throw, rebounds better and is more likely to force turnovers. He has earned it at this point.

I disagree, Thames offers the penetration off the dribble, to go along with being more productive than McCottry in every way, to this point in the season.

Disagree and so does Josh as to the ball handling. He tried Thames at the point in the role McCottry plays . It didn't work. I don't think he ever got to the rim and scored. Love Thames where he is at Needs to stay on the wing. . By the way McCottry is a very good rebounder ,just needs to clean up the stupid turnovers.

Mccottry is wildly inconsistent.  Don’t feel confident in major minutes.  He can be our best player one game and a complete liability the next
