cgeldmacher Posted Wednesday at 05:01 AM Posted Wednesday at 05:01 AM We’ve had seasons where it hasn’t even been in the realm of possibility to win a road game like this. To win a road game against a decent WCC team really tells you how we are this year. Quote

Shouldn’t be losing to San Fran at home, and the rest are buy games. We should be able to go to Simon Rec and put together a team to beat Principia. Quote

McCottry not reliable. Only guy besides Green who looks like he can run the offense is Jones, great game from both. Maybe Avila’s best game of the year too. Quote

It looked like 400 or so early in the game. But after the first 10 mins, it looked like 600-700. Late arriving LA crowd. But whatever the number, shockingly low. It was sold out the last time we were here. Quote
Bay Area Billiken Posted Wednesday at 06:05 AM Posted Wednesday at 06:05 AM Victory in the City of Angels! Billikens 91 LMU 70. That’s the way I like it! How about that monster dunk by Kellen Thames. They had to stop the game, bring down the basket to put the clock over the backboard back into position. Quote

Taj79 Posted Wednesday at 11:49 AM Posted Wednesday at 11:49 AM That was a bad basketball team. If this is, as someone said, a Q1 win, then the Q system is a lie and needs to be blown up. Observations: Avila is as earthbound as a center can be but he boxed out well on this go around. McCottry is a walking turnover. He doesn’t handle the ball well but needs to because his game is all drive-and-shoot. Green is the best of the bombers; maybe Dunlap will get better but right now he and Sharma are inconsistent. Brown and Jones allow us to win rebounding battles; Thames might be a highlight reel but his offensive game needs work. If LMU finishes above .500 in the WCC I’ll be stunned. Maybe that 6’6” PG will do the trick but that team was not good yesterday. Damn! One rebound away from 8 and 0. thatskablamo 1 Quote

Bay Area Billiken Posted Wednesday at 02:37 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:37 PM SLU’s NET today is a very good 35, best in the A10. Winning big by 21 in a true road game matters. David King, gabriel, The Valley Sucks and 3 others 6 Quote
billiken_roy Posted Wednesday at 02:38 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:38 PM Not good enough. The committee kept Indiana State out two years ago with a lower net. We still are nothing. Quote
Old guy Posted Wednesday at 02:41 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:41 PM After last night's victory over LMU Team Rankings has SLU at an overall 46 ranking, close to VCU at 43, and over Dayton at 71. This is very good for SLU. If we keep this ranking we may get enough attention to get an at large spot at the Dance. David King 1 Quote

Nights like last night where the conference goes 6-1 including some decent wins, helps. SLU has got to win out in OOC, including against SF, and they need to blow out these crap teams by 30 or 40 to keep the NET in the 30s when conference play starts. billiken_roy Posted Wednesday at 03:44 PM Posted Wednesday at 03:44 PM Look it's not a one time thing. The committee has been sticking it to non power conference schools for awhile now. And it's only going to get worse. The power schools don't want to share and even though the committee is made up of more non power school reps than power school reps, it doesn't have to take a genius to see the committee is in on it. Dr Bird Posted Wednesday at 03:58 PM Posted Wednesday at 03:58 PM We now have a good sample size for this season. I know that "starting is for high school", but at some point there will be a main 5. Green, Brown, Avila, and Jones are bona fide starters. Jones is really starting to get the Schertz system. The 5th starter will come from Thames, McCottry, or Sharma. Dunlap and Otieno still finding their games, but will continue to have a role going forward Quote

Schertz reminds me of Spoonhour in many ways, including the fact that his post-game comments always indicate he's not missing a thing and that he's identified the issues. I also like how Schertz said (in Stu's article) how this trip provided adversity. In the right environment, adversity fuels growth. Bay Area Billiken 1 Quote

If this team is going to be really good you need McCottry playing a major role. I know his turnovers have been a problem but he offers something no one else does. Penetration off the dribble. The board is selling him way too short way too early. MusicCityBilliken and Bay Area Billiken 2 Quote

Thames doesn't turn the ball over, shoots better from the field and free throw, rebounds better and is more likely to force turnovers. He has earned it at this point. billikenbill and Zink 2 Quote

Disagree and so does Josh as to the ball handling. He tried Thames at the point in the role McCottry plays . It didn't work. I don't think he ever got to the rim and scored. Love Thames where he is at Needs to stay on the wing. . By the way McCottry is a very good rebounder ,just needs to clean up the stupid turnovers. gabriel and MusicCityBilliken 2 Quote
