They showed him at the beginning of the broadcast and discussed his redshirting to get a Masters.

He was on the bench dressed in all black.

Yes he wasn't wearing a redshirt.

Got some real literal, semantic loving, MFs up in here.

Win is a win and I’ll take it. However point and defense make me a little concerned right now. It’s early for sure but something I hope gets figured out before conference play starts.

I liked the pieces we had.  This game did not impress me, though.  McCottry and Thames are not going to be able to weave through four defenders and lay the ball in against good teams.  I hate when we play like an AAU team in the early schedule, because I don't think we learn anything from it.  Coach said after the game that we did not share the ball enough.  I agree.  You're the coach.  Take care of that.  If the staff lets guys play a style that isn't going to be successful against better teams, that's where we end up getting burned the first time we play better talent and then take a non-conference loss we shouldn't.  Hopefully, coach cleans this up.

I can’t remember a faster pace in all my years as SLU fan.  I mean it was rebound and sprint.  Depth and athleticism lends itself to it.  Incredibly fun style.

Reign in turnovers and fouls this team can be special

I disagree, I definitely think Thames and Mccottry can consistently take the ball to the basket against virtually anyone, in fact I would be disappointed if they stopped doing it.

Also, the benefit of a fresh Robbie is massive.  There is so much less on his shoulders.  Jumper had lift.  Efficiency should be ridiculous.  Expecting a massive year from him

Here are some observations from just one game. There is no way we win a game like that by that margin last year. We would had have runs in games like that and then go cold. It looks like we have the horses now to keep running and keep attacking.

We absolutely killed them on the boards. We should be a better rebounding team.

Robbie is in better shape.

We are a very big team, I'm not talking about in the traditional sense with a big frontline, but when Green is out of the game, we are very big at guard and wing. There was a lineup where Jones was the shortest player on the floor. A lot of good wingspans.

The defense concerned me after the first 10 minutes, but then we got in the flow of the game and started imposing our will. I'm gonna love Dion Brown - a real bulldog. We really missed a player like that last year. He plays much bigger than his size. We were terrible at generating turnovers last year, but should be much better this year with our length and athleticism.

It was nice to have a big like Otieno knock down some free throws. It was such a cluster with Anya last year.

I know it won't be as easy against better opponents, but man do we have several guys who can get out in the open floor and attack the rim. Also, I loved the play where Brown went high to grab a defensive rebounding, immediately started sprinting the other way and found Sharma on the wing for a 3.

The passing and 3-point shooting should improve as the team gains familiarity. There were several good passes that a teammate wasn't expecting. Especially from Robbie, i think guys will be more ready to receive some of those passes.

Turnovers remain a concern and while I think the defense should be much better this year, I want to see how we do against better opponents. As good as the offense figures to be, we're gonna need the defense to help win games on nights when the shots aren't falling.

Finally, in the postgame, I've never heard Schertz so free and easy and giddy after a victory. He had his share of coach speak, talking about the things they need to work on like passing and turnovers, but you can tell he is excited about the potential of this group... and so am I.

no matter where i worked over the last 43 years of my career.   i never ever had a problem giving away tickets.   and my tickets arent as nice as those center section seats.

How special your situation has been - when things are not good I couldn't pay people to take my tix at times.

I think it’s impressive and a good sign that we clearly didn’t play our best game and still easily covered the spread.  We might’ve won that game by 50+ on a night where everything clicked.

So for the shake shack thing. How do we show our ticket if it's a virtual ticket and it goes away after the game?

Guess I should have figured it would never be easy if it's SLU

I just showed them the ticket on my phone. I downloaded the ticket to my wallet on my iPhone, just showed it to the guy at the counter, no problem.  This was the Shake Shack at Ladue and I170.

But like what if you use the billiken app and don't download it to your phone/wallet? I can't find past tickets on ticketmaster or the billiken app. Guess I'll just have to start screenshotting them every time to send them out.

Not sure, downloading it to my wallet has been what I’ve always done for all tickets I can, not just Billiken games, it works just fine.

I would go in today to the Ladue location, they do not care that much.  Just show them the app and tell them you had tickets.

oh i dont mind them going to the basket, but if their job at the time is to serve as the defacto point guard, i think they should be looking to pass first score second.

In one of Stu’s recent pieces on his Substack, he wrote that Schertz rarely recruits prototypical point guards. For Instance, Schertz probably wouldn’t bring in a Yuri Collins. He recruits guys who can handle the ball, but wants them to either be able to slash to get to the rim reliably like McCottry, or be shooters like Green. He wants the passing to come from the flow of offensive sets, often with a big actually facilitating, versus a prototypical PG like Yuri getting 10 assists every night. I’m not saying 1 is better than the other. Just explaining that Schertz doesn’t expect those guys to fill the role of a typical PG. they’re slashers who just so happen to bring the ball up more often than not, if that makes sense.

I want to see these 3 point bombers doing what they do best.   Shooting and when a guard dribbles into a mess and gets nothing......not good  if three guys that can fill it up are just standing there.   Yes mccottrey was successful last night. But let's remember it take3 layups to equal 2 threes.  And when our guys are making 3's at nearly 40%, the spread will be even more.
