Dont ever remember SLU going on the road for a pre season game.

There is a closed scrimmage vs Iowa, 10/10 I believe..dont quote me.

I’m pumped for this Bradley game!!!

I visited Bradley once nice little campus cool older Fraternity houses. They used to have a bus called the Pickle that would drive you to their bar, The Lucky Lady,  I think i got in with a Six Flags Season Pass. They also had a giant burrito place years before they were everywhere,  Peoria was a trendsetter in giant burrito cuisine.

So to answer your question,  no. But I did go once as a junior in college.

Is the old Robertson Field House still standing?

They had this raised floor, give you second thoughts charging after a ball going out bounds 🤐

Back in the day when I went up to Bradley for Bills games to watch Harry Rogers go up against Seymour Reed & Les, watching a game at the Robertson was an adventure.

In 1971 we had a group of 5 guys who went to every Bills game at Kiel. That year there was a 3 way tie for the MVC title, SLU, Louisville, and Memphis. Louisville got the bye and we had to play Memphis. The playoff was at Bradley so we decided to make a road trip to Peoria. It was in the old Hangar Quonset gym that had the elevated floor. One of our road crew met a girl and we couldn’t find him when the game was over. We lost to Memphis by the way. We trolled the campus hangouts but at 1:00 am decided he was a big boy and would find his way home. We returned minus one road warrior. However, he said the bus trip home the next day was well worth his previous night’s adventure with his new found friend.

My Bradley adventure was a last minute decision to head up there to see our Billikens take on Hersey Hawkins.  Upon arrival we found a guy with 2 tickets right behind Bradley's bench.  Stan Albeck was the coach, me and my buddy gave Stan hell the whole game.  We figured he was just tuning us out, but towards the end of the game he turned around and said where the hell have you guys been all season?  Fun time...Great memory!

10/23 is much better than 10/25.  Anybody know if this will be during the day?

Around 1965-66 I was a student sports reporter for the U News.  On the day of the Bills-Bradley game in Peoria my editor suggested we go up and report on the game.  There were 3 of us.  All I can recall is that we were high up in the Quonset hut and that Eugene Moore had a great game, but we still lost.  We drove back in a snowstorm but also had a fun time.

La Bamba - burritos as big as your head. May it rest in peace.

Robertson Memorial Fieldhouse replaced by a cookie cutter chintzy new place about 15 years ago.

Lucky Lady has a new name, but still the same place otherwise. The pickle has had various forms over the years and depending on mechanical condition, still runs.

Bradley beat the Bills 68-63.  Bradley jumped out to 43-29 lead at half as Brehmer's offense stumbled out the gate.  Billikens came back to within 2 with 3 minutes to play after 3 consecutive baskets by Rick Rineberg but they could get no closer.  Rich Parks led the Bills with 19 points and 10 boards as teh rest of the Billikens struggled from the floor.

Bradley was ranked in the top ten most of the season and 65 marked the first year of Joe Stowell's tenure as coach of Bradley.  He would alter be the voice of Bradley Basketball on the radio for 25 years until 2010.

Thanks for the summary of the game.  Now I recall Rich Parks having a great game (I may have confused him with Eugene Moore).  Buddy Brehmer was a bad coach who had replaced John Bennington who moved on to Michigan State.

I thought I had the program for that game but I think this is from the season before.  It looks like we lost 94-91.  Must have been a crazy game.   I've got about 600 vintage programs in my probably valueless SLU basketball collection.

Buddy was a terrible coach. Those teams had a lot of talent. Buddy was rumored to be an alcoholic.

Brehmer also had an aversion to recruiting African-American players.  The only black players listed on that roster were Bobby Cole and Ed Walker.  I am not sure about Tom Carter.

Wasn't that a statement of the times. Not trying to defend Buddy but in the following years he recruited Moore ,Parks and Orms.
