Lord Elrond Posted September 16 Posted September 16 Time to beat the Bears. Looking at their roster, they seem like a European University instead of an American one. 11 from England, with some Scottish, Irish, Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, Italian and Norwegian thrown in, and only 2 Americans on the entire roster. Lord Elrond Posted September 16 Author Posted September 16 Just read something about the Missouri State Head Coach in The MSU Standard: “His biggest challenge with recruiting locally laid in convincing those from Springfield that staying in Springfield wasn’t a bad thing.” Guess he hasn’t had much luck with that recently. One American from Kansas, the other from Michigan. Quote
billikenbill Posted September 16 Posted September 16 The Bears have the NCAA leader in both goals and points in Fumiya Shiraishi. Is there a soccer equivalent to the box and one? Quote
Lord Elrond Posted September 17 Author Posted September 17 Kyle Heibert from St Louis City SC in the stands with his wife and child. Of course, he’s wearing a Missouri State shirt sine he went to college there. Quote

Lord Elrond Posted September 17 Author Posted September 17 0-0 at the half, pretty even match, Billikens have 2 shots, 2 CKs, the Bears 2 shots 0 CKs. Not much offense, looks like 2 strong defensive teams allowing very little. Quote
Lord Elrond Posted September 17 Author Posted September 17 Bears coach spent a lot of time in the first half wanting his players to press higher, guess that’s what we’lll see in the 2nd half. Quote
Lord Elrond Posted September 17 Author Posted September 17 1-0 Billikens! Off a long throw in deep on the Bears side. Quote
Lord Elrond Posted September 17 Author Posted September 17 Goal by Nick Schramm, assist on the throw to Jackson Delkus. Bears coach saw it coming, was yelling “Long Throw”, but didn’t matter. Quote
Lord Elrond Posted September 17 Author Posted September 17 Bears get the equalizer 12 minutes into the 2nd. Someone on the SLU technical staff kicked the aluminum enclosure hard over that one. 1-1 Quote

Do most teams press SLU or sit back in defense? I would think with our depth, we stay fresh, and a high press opens up more counter-attacking opportunities for SLU. Quote
Lord Elrond Posted September 17 Author Posted September 17 Most don’t pull a high press against us, from what I’ve seen. Missouri State has been very disciplined on when and when not to press. TheA_Bomb 1 Quote
Lord Elrond Posted September 17 Author Posted September 17 Dangerous chance for Bears, good save by Abonnell Quote
Lord Elrond Posted September 17 Author Posted September 17 I will say when they’ve pressed, the defenders have stayed alert an organized. Quote
Lord Elrond Posted September 17 Author Posted September 17 The VAR does slow the game down. Not sure what the options are to speed it up Quote

Lord Elrond Posted September 17 Author Posted September 17 1-1 final, 8 shots 9 CKs for Bills, 7 shots 1 CK for Bears. Very even game. Billikens need to execute better on corners. Quote
ARon Posted September 17 Posted September 17 First time watching the squad this season. Offense looks to still be a work in progress for sure (lots of guys with hopeful takes on two defenders), but back lines looks pretty solid. Quote

Lord Elrond Posted September 17 Author Posted September 17 I actually have no ideas how to do this, but someone needs to speed up the pace of VAR review. Yes, it’s brand new in college, we are learning as we go, I accept all that as valid. But when you’re sitting in the stands it seems like it takes forever, longer than a hydration break. It seems like it’s affecting the play too much. I’m reaching the point where I’d rather not have it personally. Quote

Yeah, the one for the guy rolling around in agony prior to the corner kick took forever. And nothing came of it. (Sure hope that guy is okay.) Quote

courtside Posted September 17 Posted September 17 There were 2 back to back different reviews. They were first reviewing the hand ball from Alex Matthews (It was, but not called) on Nick Schramm’s play, prior to the corner kick for SLU. The 2nd review was about the play in the box before the corner kick. Quote
