HoosierPal Posted March 4 Posted March 4 High Point is already in the A10 - in men's lacrosse. Hobart is also already in the A10 - in men's lacrosse. UMass will continue in the A10 - in men's lacrosse, when they bolt for the MAC in all other sports. Quote
GOSLU68 Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Our old fan base doesn’t require a furniture run. Of course, who would follow George Mason before they joined and shot immediately to the top? Quote
Lord Elrond Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Not sure the A10 needs a 15th team to replace UMass as a full time member. However, if we do need a 15th team, then there is only one obvious answer: Colorado State University. Why you ask? Simple, they are the only D1 school with the nickname Rams not already in the A10. Time to complete the set. Aquinas, CenHudDude, AMDG-Unit and 5 others 6 2 Quote
billikenbill Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Bring on the Purple Panthers of HPU!! Saw many High Point games vs. Guilford College back in the day. They were both very good NAIA teams when it wasn’t uncommon for NAIA teams to have players who made it the league. Long-time ABA player and NBA coach Gene Littles played at High Point while Bob Kauffman, M.L. Carr, and Lloyd Free aka World Be Free played at Guilford. If HPU did join wonder if they’d move A-10 home games out of their 1800 seat bandbox of a gym. Quote
Lando Griffin Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Lord. If that happens, SLU should look for the exit. Quickly. AGB91 1 Quote

An 1800 seat bandbox seems about right the way this league appears to be trending. TheA_Bomb 1 Quote

Risky to throw full court out of bounds passes as the ceiling is out of bounds. Quote
billikenbill Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Good news on HPU. They recently abandoned the bandbox and opened a modern-looking 4500 seat arena!! No problem with a low ceiling!! Quote

Now how many votes are needed I couldn't guess, maybe just a simple majority. Of course, 14 schools would be voting so there could be a tie. That might be broken by the Commissioner I suppose. I just came across a comment on Reddit (for what that's worth) discussing who should replace UMass. It's something I hadn't considered but the claim is that the TV contract requires them to have 15 members. So just losing UMass and not replacing them is not an option. I wish we could get another midwest school but I don't have any suggestions for that. Quote
thetorch Posted March 5 Posted March 5 The A10 is going to move to add 1 or 2 new members within the next 2 years. High Point is a strong candidate along with a couple others. SLU should go independent. I'm not joking. JohnnyJumpUp 1 Quote

If I am not wrong about his retirement date, we currently have no president capable to speak for SLU to A10 until the next president takes over. This places us at a disadvantage in transferring our School's desires to the A10 board. If Pestello is still president of SLU he cannot speak for SLU or bind his successor to his opinion in this matter. I would not want May's opinion presenting SLU's desires to the A10 in this matter. Well, not until Conklin did. I had never heard of High Point. Just like I'd never heard of Longwood until we hired their women's coach. As it turns out High Point and Longwood are in the same conference. Big South maybe? Too lazy to look it up again. Quote

Could we find enough teams in the top 100 (preferably of course the top 50) that would play us at their place and more importantly, would come to OUR place? Remember now that most conferences are going big, big, big and have so many teams that to schedule many out of conference games is getting difficult. Also, we aren't exactly a big draw for anyone. And we'd have to have games all winter long, right in the middle of everyone else's league games. I know they do happen midseason, but it's getting rarer and rarer. I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm really curious how we could do it. And we'd have to do it every year. Until that mythical call from the Bigger East. Quote
OkieBilliken Posted March 5 Posted March 5 High Point is two hours closer to Jacksonville by car than Richmond so I would welcome them. But why not College of Charleston? Basketball centric school, great city to visit, really nice arena.... Quote

The Reddit convo (from sometime last year) that I mentioned way up above had some "votes" for College of Charleston too. This was a general college basketball subreddit and the thread was about who should the A10 get to replace UMass. Quote
VeniceMenace Posted March 5 Posted March 5 High Point has been in D1 since 1999-2000 and is 17 spots higher than SLU in the Pomeroy...so, at least currently, the addition would strengthen the A10. Quote
