HoosierPal Posted February 11 Posted February 11 There are lots of candidate lists out there for the IU job. It is very attractive as they have a "money cannon" fueling their NIL basketball effort. Reportedly, and there is no way to support this statement, they have the highest hoops NIL in the Big Ten and one of the highest in the nation. (The NIL $$ didn't help much this season in basketball.) Brad Stevens is first on the list, and if he hasn't been called, he will be. He will refuse, and that probably is a good thing. It has been a decade since he coached at Butler, and the game has changed tremendously since then. Why would he want to put up with the new NIL/portal culture? I don't see the need to type out the many candidates that are on the multiple lists. You can find them if you are interested. But yes, Schertz is on many "third tier" lists. If AD Scott Dolson wants to attempt to repeat the success of his hire a mid-major coach he had with Curt Cignetti, the top candidate would likely be Ben McCollum. Both Schertz and McCollum would be hard sells for the IU crowd. Quote
cgeldmacher Posted February 11 Posted February 11 The only way I see something like this happening is if the Indiana decision makers go all in on the idea that you don't need coaches that have a talent for recruiting anymore, but instead just want a coach that is great at developing players, preparation, and x's and o's. If they truly have the largest NIL fund and if Schertz is truly a top notch coach, it could be a good match if they are willing to put up with the bad press of not making a splash hire. Quote

Probably need to make it to the tournament and win a game or two to be a candidate for a job like this one. But it's nice to have a guy that garners attention. CenHudDude 1 Quote
