I sit in 102, and May took a moment to process what was happening and then bee-lined toward the incident. If you don't believe me, you can see him on the floor between the VCU bench and the stands in Steve's video. -CMay was certainly in what I will call the hot zone Quote
Cowboy II Posted January 29 Posted January 29 3 hours ago, ACE said: Or is it possible that the Russell family "stood their ground"? I guess it depends on your perspective. I know this will not be a popular take, but several reports on the radio this morning that some SLU fans were talking trash throughout the game. I'm not excusing the behavior of the Russell family either, as they say two wrongs, but they "had to deal with that" during the game too - middle aged men drinking heavily talking crap about their kid for two hours. Again, two wrongs - but I think it's disingenuous to completely excuse the actions of a few of our fans. -I don't care what fans are saying, the mom doesn't take the action she reportedly did -if the comments are vulgar or otherwise worthy of action by SLU/ARENA STAFF, go them and have them handle it, don't start a fight cheeseman 1 Quote

I can’t believe it has to be said, but here we are. His mom is suppose to be an adult. Bills By 40 1 Quote

I think it's naive to present a few of our fans as completely blameless. And I'm speaking as someone who doesn't like Russell's whiney antics, but so be it. I'm just not gonna drunkenly yell at a 20 something kid for two hours, especially knowing there are family members nearby. Obviously we have a difference of opinion, and as I stated right off the bat, I knew mine would not be popular on BILLIKENS.COM Speaking of family - as @RiseOfTheBillikens just mentioned - Phil had more of his posse in the section with SLU family. Spare me from any care in the world for Philip Russell and his family. They asked for it. When you have a kid who whines, sets records with Technical Fouls, and his family (seemingly) has these types of situations at other games - I’d consider SLU fans pretty blameless. It’s important to identify the root cause of these issues. Here, I think it’s pretty clearly his family. billiken_roy, AGB91, Bills By 40 and 5 others 8 Quote
TRN Posted January 29 Posted January 29 On top of the Russell family starting a brawl you have the idiot VCU fans claiming our student section was chanting “Russia” at Shulga. They were saying eyebrows, but it’s always more fun to make things up. Quote

Maybe this is a sign that we are back. Pretty embarrassing when several opposing teams over the last few years have brought fans that make more noise and are rowdier then the home team. But we are ho hum SLU with an average attendance age at chaifetz of 58 so it's never surprised me. Lol About time SLU fans started standing on business if you ask me. Westy03 1 Quote

What I would say there often are empty seats next to you and they could be empty because someone did not show up or you didn't have someone to fill the seat that could very well be yours. So, if the lady said you can't sit there because that is my seat could be true. laker119 1 Quote

What man lets a female staff member try and settle a fight in the stands, while watching from below? That’s my point. I know other staff members were there and they helped, tried to do right thing, but that’s on security and athletics staff shouldn’t be expected to breakup fights in the stands and anyone defending AD letting one of his female subordinates or anyone else on his staff bounce around in the middle of that bs playing Roadhouse is wrong, while the “leader” of program just watches from afar. No words. Get your people out of there. Go ahead and defend that. I got nothing else to say. Very telling. Quote
