I watched the fight unfold on ESPN.  I completely agree. It took way too long for security to get the situation under control. The delay deflated the momentum the Bills were experiencing at the time. Reflected poorly on SLU nationally.

What were the students actually yelling at Shulga?  He was the VCU Alpha for the last couple of minutes.  The chant in his direction was constant.  None of my group could understand it.

Wondered the same thing. I'm at the other end of the arena but it was obvious something was aimed at him.

Hopefully just his last name or something (like the old Belfour chant) and not what was on Twitter. I find myself wanting this story to get out of the news cycle because I could see things being said against SLU whether true or not that would be less than ideal for the school and program.

I know this will not be a popular take, but several reports on the radio this morning that some SLU fans were talking trash throughout the game. I'm not excusing the behavior of the Russell family either, as they say two wrongs, but they "had to deal with that" during the game too - middle aged men drinking heavily talking crap about their kid for two hours.

Again, two wrongs - but I think it's disingenuous to completely excuse the actions of a few of our fans.

Sure, trash talking at a sporting event, but if it's antagonistic, threatening, very personal, don't be surprised if a family member is going to respond,

Haha, so true. My only reason for wanting it to get out of the news cycle is because I could see things being said from the VCU side that even if completely untrue would be less than ideal to have to deal with. I didn’t think the old SLU fans had this in them, the students need to rally around these men!

Have there been any cell phone videos posted of the altercation? And thanks to Steve for posting the entire video, I was just curious if there was any video from within the battle.

Stand their ground got thrown out the window when his mom ran up the steps along side family and started throwing punches first.  Its hard being a family member at away games, but that stuff it normal.  You gotta have thick skin or stay home.

It was a Tuesday night with no football and the weekend games had anlready been rehashed Monday and really only one other rank v rank matchup.

Again, not defending that response and no where did I say that, but they are responding to something. I think it's naive to present a few of our fans as completely blameless.

And I'm speaking as someone who doesn't like Russell's whiney antics, but so be it. I'm just not gonna drunkenly yell at a 20 something kid for two hours, especially knowing there are family members nearby.
