Pistol Posted January 16 Posted January 16 We had the game of the year last night at Rose Hill Gym on the building's 100th anniversary. UMass 120, Fordham 118 in triple overtime. The stats are hilarious: 79 combined fouls (most in D-I since 2017) 122 total free throw attempts (most in D-I sine 1997) 10 players fouled out, 6 on Fordham and 4 on UMass Rahsool Diggins scored 46, a UMass single-game record. He broke Julius Erving's record for points scored by a visiting player at Rose Hill. The game took 3 hours and 45 minutes. DirtyRican and JettFlight5 2 Quote

I’m just hoping we make the top 4. I don’t know squat about UD’s team, but suddenly something smells in Dayton. Quote

Rivera was more of a phantom Billiken as I’m not sure anyone outside the program ever saw him do anything basketball related. Quote

He was solid at Bryant last year. brianstl 1 Quote

Anything can happen in 4 days. I do believe this team is capable of beating any A10 team. They just have to play a little more physical. Schertz will likely stress this more going forward. billiken_roy Posted January 17 Posted January 17 i dont have a problem with this. yes it was likely painful to watch, but basketball has been progressing to a game of rugby for years. start calling ALL the fouls and eventually the teams will adjust. i.e. quit fouling. the result will be a game that highlights real skills not thug ball. it will be a thing of beauty. I think that ship has sailed, B’roy. I look at today’s game and compare to when we played. If they called it like the old days it would be a game of marches to the FT line. BB has become a true contact sport. Quote
billiken_roy Posted January 17 Posted January 17 not if there is a concerted effort to start calling all the fouls. it might take a season. but the coaches will get tired of 5-6 players fouling out every game. they will have to adjust. AGB91 1 Quote

Add on to that, simply make a rule change that fouling out in Basketball results in the same penalty as a red card in soccer. Not only are you out for the remainder of the game, but you are ineligible to play in the next game as well. billiken_roy, Billikenbooster and willie 2 1 Quote
