@TheA_Bomb:  yeah, I thought about that but he didn't even get an offer from us.  Did we think he was a lock to us because of dad?  Maybe dad even told CTF Junior was in but still, not even one single offer?  Missouri State?  Carbondale?  Bradley?  Kind of hard to believe.

Because there was an agreement he'd free up a scholarship by walking on.

I don't think LHII is a world beater at the A10 level but he is a D1 player.  He'd kill in the Southland Horizon MAC etc

He is not going anywhere - his dad is big thing for program.  He only has one more year after this.  Keep all the bridges open.

No.

He can contribute. He gets too much attention because of his name but having him play on the team adds other things to the program.

I hated seeing Monroe Douglas Jr get rebuffed by us and walk on at Dayton and contribute. Now he has an awesome daughter at Burroughs who if he went to SLU would be a no brainer for the womens program. She has tons of BCS offers and is not considering SLU.

Recruiting locally is a tricky business. It is easy when there is a local player with great skills, strong work ethic, high character that fits your system and there is room at the position they play.  If however, they have marginal skills or poor work ethic or questionable character, or don't fit the system or the position they play is already deep, then signing them could result in a disgruntled player.  As fans we typically only know about the skills of a recruit, and we are frequently misinformed about that. Players are often shorter than their profiles. After seeing Parker play, was clear to me that it takes more than gifted shot production to be a good player and fit for a team.  We generally have no idea what a player's character or work ethic is. and a coach isn't going to inform the fan base that he isn't interested in a local player because he has a poor work ethic or has a serious character flaw.

I think the safest fan perspective to take is to trust the coaching staff in their evaluation of talent, especially local talent.

Most schools recruit locally.  Some of those players only become role players or don't make the rotation at all.  If a player becomes disgruntled, that's the cost of doing business.

Hughes has been a classy, team-first guy the whole time he has been here.  In this case, there's no sign of a disgruntled player.  We're just engaging in the normal message board chatter of who makes the rotation.

I'm rooting for Hughes to develop into a glue guy.  He has the right attitude for it.

I agree with your comments and want thinking of Houghes with my comments. I think Houghes has been good for SLU in numerous  ways.
