We will see with Terry. I think they got a mess on their hands. Jimmy C.

I thought the same thing but guy inherited a tough situation beat KU 2x won B12 Tournament and got to Elite 8.  So he deserves a shot.  Plus $3mil/yr is less than Texas would've paid and if need be they can afford a buy out.

Also to paraphrase Majerus "recruiting to Texas is like recruiting an alcoholic to a NYE party."

Sounds like a mess, I can see why people would be avoiding it

If Ashworth, Shulga and Bairstow follow Odom to VCU, VCU would be getting the better end of that trade off too.

Again, doubtful.  Those playing West of the Rockies will find a different game called in the East Coast Bus League with its Southern Spur.  While the better, true basketball is played in the West, where impeding of movement is called what it actually is, a Foul, these players will have to adjust to the holds and checks that go uncalled Back East.

Note how VCU encountered the Western Rule Book in its one and done NCAA appearance vs. St. Mary's, even in Albany.  A VCU check on the SMC point guard in open court was actually called a foul, as was an Ace Baldwin reach.  Imagine that.  In contrast, VCU checked and bumped Yuri the whole game, in the open court, in plain view, with impunity.  VCU plays like a boxer jabbing his opponent the whole match.  Over the rounds, the physical contact takes its toll.  But the refs disallowed that VCU stuff vs. SMC.

Odom plays a radically different system than VCU Havoc, even with Rhoades’ modifications thereto. Time will tell if this is an upgrade, doubtful.

Utah State is a superior program to VCU at this point and in a superior conference. They are lucky to be able to get Ryan Odom. It is good timing for him, probably a little bump in pay. He had an older roster at USU.

Utah State is not a better program than VCU, and this poster is hardly a VCU fan.  You can't judge a program by just 1 season.  VCU is the program that has been to the Final 4.  Besides Utah State lost to a Mizzou team that proceeded to get boat raced and run off the court by a bunch of Ivy Leaguers from Princeton.

Whether the Mountain West is better than the A10 is not some sacrosanct truth either.  This year, yes, but over time they are very comparable, basically equals.  Both are conferences that members try to leave, if they are given the opportunity.

Odom's move is a lateral move, a return to his geographical roots.

It feels like VCU had already decided to move on from Mike Rhoades if he got another job or not.

-sorry for being a slow on this story, is it correct that VCU has hired a coach but Rhoades hasn't yet accepted at PSU or anywhere else?

there's more P5+1 on the east coast than the west coast. It makes sense if he is trying to get to an ACC/Big East job, i guess.

Agreed.  But he's also coming home.  It's interesting how a coach from his geographical base lands in Utah (State).  Rick Majerus (Utah) was similar, albeit from the Midwest, not the East Coast.  John Wooden himself was a Purdue alumnus and coached at Indiana State.  Many out here came from somewhere else, including me.  We're all transplants.  Some of us stay.
