Yesterday's  update, on the official injury list,  Pickett and Thames are still listed as  questionable ...Collins's questionable status  has not been updated since the original Jan 14 report...probably intentionally.

As of today, on the Loy side...James's condition has changed from undisclosed injury to personal issue and from questionable to out indefinitely.

SLU -5 / -5.5 seems like a good value here.

Loyola is a trainwreck. They just lost/booted Saint Thomas from the team. Got pantsed by St Joes on the road by 35. Lost their last 2 home games by 10+ to VCU and GW.

Let's pile on and decimate the spread.

Bryce Golden started 33 games last season for Butler, in the Big East, played 24 mpg, averaging 8.8 and 3.6.

This season for the Ramblers, he hasn't started, comes off the bench plays 12 minutes, and is at 4.6 and 3.0.

Interesting.

We talked to the guys from the 2 Ramblers Podcast on the last @Midtown Madness episode and they said this is the case with several guys not getting minutes. Jacob Hutson (3.9 MPG, 0.8 PPG) started 19 games for Loyola last season. Grad transfer Jeameril Wilson (5.8 MPG, 1.6 PPG) started 30 games and averaged 11.2 PPG at Lehigh last season. Sheldon Edwards (9.7 MPG, 3.1 PPG) averaged 26 MPG and 11.4 PPG at Valpo last season.

One of the reasons we all thought Loyola would be good this season is because of how much talent they were bringing in. But the only transfer Valentine seems to trust is Alston, the leading scorer who came from D-II California University-Pennsylvania. This isn't a knock on Alson - he's an impressive player - but it's baffling that he's letting so many other guys waste away. He's the only starter who wasn't in the rotation last season and the guy getting the most minutes off the bench (Saint Thomas) is now gone.

Hope he doesn’t decide to start the transfers tonight and have them light us up.

So why did Valentine do such a bad job at selecting players from the transfer portal? He landed the players, but if the players aren’t good enough to play for you, not sure what is accomplished except for making sure you have enough players to practice against.

Maybe he didn't. He's rolling with 4 returning rotation players in the starting lineup and no one off the bench is getting more than mid-teens MPG. At 6-11, 0-5 in conference, and having lost 6 in a row - none of which were close - maybe it's time to make some changes. Maybe he has some answers on the bench.

He may be a few games too late to make changes.  He probably should start the bench players and see what happens. It’s not like if they are bad it will ruin the season, that ship has sailed. Maybe that and Saint Thomas being gone will get the attention of his players. It might be a tougher game than some Billiken fans are expecting.

but it is not cut throatish to take part of the conference and run away to start a new conference originating with just the select members of said conference?

i am pretty sure if they form a new conference there will be a period of time they will likely not be included in the tournament or limited to the number of teams that can get in the tourney.

When teams form a new conference, they have a five year waiting period before the new conference gets an automatic bid to the Tournament.  I am not aware of any restriction on the number of at large bids.

This is bizarre. I’ll be monitoring the minutes more closely tonight.

Perhaps Valentine is planning a team face lift once we all assume the Ramblers are bottom feeders, and they will take the A10 tourney from the basement.  (Or not)

Post game reaction...Sweet

Let's start like we always do...from my posts above...I always try to be accountable for what I write...Bolded statements from my above posts.

Hit some shots ...grab some rebounds...open up some distance and look for the Rambler in your rear view mirror. We did...we did ...we did and we did....Looks like a 1960 blue Rambler to me.

Following the A-10 pattern,  Loy shows up with a decent starting line up. Not as good as the GW or GM starters but decent....  and continuing in the A-10 mode, there is a significant drop off after the first 5....When they bring in subs, that  is where we need to make hay  and either get the lead or extend the lead......our bench needs to dominate their bench...beat them on the bench by double digits....Actual bench points  23-8...This was pretty much the key to the game which is why I emphasized it in the above posts.  A-10 is weaker this year because many teams have less depth.

Hold their starters to  50 pts.  which should allow us to keep them under 70 pts...Pretty good call by the computer as the Rambler 5...came in at 51 pts...The 59 pts will help improve our opp PPG grade of D+.

45/35/75...actual...58/47/58...here is the break down ...4 extra 2s...2 extra 3s and 2 less FTs =12 extra pts over the spread in virtual...10 in real life...and that's why it was a blowout...lights out shooting.

Beat them on the boards by double digits....36-21...we did ...

The computer is figuring on ... half Yuri (19 min)...actual min 32...those extra min were worth some extra stats...57/100/0...9pts...6 asts...3 rebs...2 stls...not bad for being sick...also a tip o' the cap to Perkins...77/80/0...18pts...3 rebs..2 stls

win the TO battle...lost this one by 4 but no damage as we still outscored them 13-10 on pts off TOs

Bottom line ...this will undo some of the earlier season damage and will help our numbers.  We aren't yet on track but this is a nice step forward.

A solid Q4 win, putting us with a perfect 5-0 in that quadrant.

I know offense gets all the eyes, but the defense has been the big improvement over the last 4 games.  We need to keep that going against stiffer competition.
