Sucks gio had a knock, he was exactly what we needed the final 19 minutes.

walker is really our weak link. Subs should have been scally over yedlin imo. A tie sucks now because we were by far better today, but hopefully no injuries and move on

Even without Reyna available, if that is true, Egg got the subs all wrong IMO.  Yedlin is mediocre defensively and his delivery from the right side was awful.  Aaronson was brought on too late to have the impact he is capable of having.  He’s an engine, bring him on at 60’ and he’s gonna give a tired Wales side nightmares.  I was fine with the Wright sub, but he didn’t have much impact.  And idk why Jordan Morris would ever be brought along, let alone put into the game.

we aren’t dead in the water, but wales are in much better position than us due to the schedule. Very likely we will go into our last game vs Iran needing at least a 3 or 4 goal win, coupled with an England team on 6pts needing to beat Wales for us. How many of those wins have we had against reasonable competition lately under Egg?  Not many

Ya worried about What England will throw out against wales with it locked up. Part of The reason I had wales advancing( assuming we’d tie today).  Still a chance Iran can tie wales.

gregg did something he early does, a great starting line up. It was almost like we’re seeing a new and improved Gregg. All of a sudden, he’s back, and puts in a bunch of questionable subs. He is who he is

Check out the expanded version of the Beckman - Manning commercial. Just scroll down the article until you see the video panel.

And the only sub that would have made a difference in this match would have been to pull Zimmerman and insert ______.   No PK, book the W.

All of the other subs were okay.  No one on the bench would have changed the outcome.

Please tell me what Morris did wrong?  I obviously missed it.

What has he ever done right? What has he done that made you say, man I was he was playing on the national team?

That’s it?  So I didn’t miss anything.

Lack of help coming on and doing nothing is a good thing? Especially when the winner of this game advances. This isn’t anti Jordan, this is we have better options than him at that point in the game

He played 10 minutes.  You are making stuff up now.

BTW Congrats to WGHS for winning the state soccer title. Penalty kicks, backup goalie....pretty cool.

The Gregg apologists can’t be reasoned with. At first they said the inclusion of guys like Morris, Roldan, Wright didn’t matter because they wouldn’t even see the field. And when they do see the field and do absolutely nothing, suddenly it’s, “well it was only ten minutes.”  Ten minutes can change everything, it’s the World Cup. Play your best guys.

FWIW, Reyna said he was “100% and ready to go.”   So Gregg chose to put Morris, Acosta, and Wright in before Gio Reyna.  That alone should be a fireable offense.

If Reyna was truly 100% and ready to go then Gregggg should be be fired immediately. Gone before the England match on Friday. Unbelievable.

Love all the experienced national team coaches on here.  And the ones who have been studying other teams’ tactics, working with the players day in and day out, trying to create the best lineup, etc…..heck with all this knowledge here in this one message board, we should put this board to be the next national team coach given how obvious it all is to be successful at the World Cup.

Welcome to the Billikens board, Gregg.

Out of the 7.8B people currently inhabiting earth I’m willing to bet you could not find one person (outside of Greggg apparently and Jordan’s family) that thinks Morris gives us a better opportunity to create chances and regain the lead during today‘s match than a healthy Reyna does. This of course ignores the first 4 substitutions.
This isn’t World Cup qualifying. You don’t get 14 games, the luxury of sitting players,  or year to figure it out. Every second counts and every goal matters. Not that anyone was expecting Iran to make it out of group stage but their fate was sealed by the time the first half whistle in game 1 was blown. Play your best players. Hopefully we can still make it out of group stage. It will probably now come down to which team, Wales or US, can lose “better” to England.
It’s clear many people hate Gregg, I’ve never really had an issue with him. But if Reyna told him he was ready to go and he still chose not to play him that’s inexcusable.

1. Gio Reyna is arguably our best player. It is egregious not to include him in the starting XI.

2. It is a borderline fireable offense to leave him on the bench with how the game unfolded.

3. Gregg’s failure in this regard could domino to his demise, as we face an uphill battle to get out of the group and he should be gone if we don’t.

That is score I did not expect to wake up to.

Yesterday was an unfortunate result for the US, today was a debacle for Argentina. Perhaps we should merge this and the "Perspective" thread. If Iran beats Wales on Friday, everyone will relax their buttholes. We're gonna draw England and beat Iran. Never underestimate the history of England choking, though.

The amazing thing is how well rounded the Bills.com posters are as the same applies for college basketball especially from one who admittedly knows little about the game.

The U.S. ended up getting what they played for, a conservative result. There weren’t many surprises. Wales played a 5-3-2 shell for a half. The U.S.did fine, got a goal and instead of putting the foot on the gas, it appeases the possession, let’s knock it around the back a little bit crowd for 75 minutes.

Wales changed alignment and personnel, plays more direct in the 2nd, (Moore) giving the U.S. exactly what they wanted. This means losing some possession (which is fine) and having to defend a little more at times, (which is also fine) But it also means the game opens up with numbers, counters, and space. Too many times the final connecting pass wasn’t there, or even more puzzling, the attempt at the final pass wasn’t there, and the midfield pulled back instead. Sometimes you get the result from which the way you play the game.

The mindset and execution needed to be getting to 2 or 3 to zero first. The good news is the opportunity was there and much of the play was fine. Just need to change a few things.
