Old guy
Can you make a choice to redshirt or do you need to have a reason that justifies the redshirt? Anyone knows what is going on with Kramer? This may be a stupid question or questions but I really do not know.
SLU_Lax
You can choose to redshirt. This is NOT a medical redshirt which is something different. Both “preserve” a year of eligibility, but have different rules. Old guy likes this

cgeldmacher
I believe that this is something that can change as well. By this I mean that he’s not prevented from coming into games, but if he did, he would lose the redshirt. If red shirting is what he and the team want, I think it’s a good idea, but if we run into a bunch of injuries, he could still end up having to play this season. dennis_w
i think he can come to all the games and dress out, if he plays then the redshirt is gone, being there has no affect on the redshirt billiken_roy and SLU_Lax like this

Unless something has changed recently, you just DO NOT PLAY. You don’t fill out any paperwork, you don’t call the NCAA, you just do not go into a single game. Once you do, the redshirt is lost. That said, I think you have five years to play four. You can’t keep redshirting, unless injury enters into it.
almaman
this seems like classic old school red shirting & seems very appropriate. also help with the only 2 incoming next year issue.
willie
Who knows the reason for this. His choice, teams choice? Maybe just keeping eligibility for the portal . Maybe just wants a year to improve. HoosierPal likes this
Old guy
Forgive my ignorance about details. Not playing in a game means what it means, just abstaining from playing any amount of time in any games, correct? He can still attend practice with everyone else and learn a lot in the process, correct?

dennis_w
It is certainly possible that anyone on the roster could transfer, but i would not think the redshirt makes it probable. he surely knows hit playing time would be limited and wants to preserve a year of eligibility. no need to speculate about transfer until they happen billiken_roy likes this
3star_recruit
With all the seniors/super-seniors we're losing, players who are just outside the rotation are in a very good position to move up. Even after we land a transfer or two out of the portal, will they play the 30+ minutes a game our all-conference players do now? I doubt it. billiken_roy
For all we know Ford asked him to redshirt. There is a lot of guessing and wild accusations going on here. And what if he was going to transfer? I believe coach Ford is a good enough guy that if Kramer wasn't in his 2023 plans he probably would actually help him with his plans. If he wasn’t going to play all that much this year, redshirting is in his best interest, preserves another year of eligibility for him while giving him a chance to practice and work on what he needs to improve. As far as his leaving, all he has to show for what he did this year is the indentation marks on his chair on the sidelines. Hardly raises his stock for other programs.
