ArmySportsDoc Posted November 22 Posted November 22 JGood had another clutch performance last night scoring 5 of the Suns’ last 7 point enroute to a come from behind 114-113 victory over the Timberwolves in an NBA Cup game. The Suns are tied with the Thunder atop West Group A at 2-0, but trail by point differential. The Wolves now trail by half a game at 2-1 in the same group. In addition to his late game heroics, JGood played 29 min, scoring 13 points on 6-9 shooting (1-2 from 3), with 6 boards (4 offensive), 4 assists, 2 steals, 2 TOs, and was +8 without fouling! thetorch Posted November 23 Author Posted November 23 The Suns have played surprisingly well. Goodwin is getting a lot of great pub around the league. Goodwin and Gillespie are on track to get paid this summer. The Suns may not be able to keep either of them with their payroll restraints. The Suns are horribly run but should be shopping Goodwin actively to get more value and maybe some picks. almaman 1 Quote

JGood is 27 years old and this is the "so-what" page of his spotrac (assuming it is correct) This is his earnings....except that Suns figure is wrong. He is only guaranteed 232k on that Suns deal (not 3.6M) because it is a team option and if I am a betting man, I'd wager the suns part ways in January. So he's made roughly ~2.2M after 5 years, 450k per year, 10% goes to agent and he paid taxes in (**checks notes) California, New York and Washington DC. I think it was pointed out that his salary is pro-rated meaning he should be getting 29k a game with the suns until January. I am not sure if that is above or the same as the guaranteed money. I know he doesn't want to Willie Reed himself and lock himself out of work but that comp is just so so low. It annoys me so much. Roy's replacement at the bank loan department makes more than that! PAY THE MAN. (I really want someone who actually knows what they are talking about to tell me I am wrong in my above quick analysis) I think there's a few things that are wrong in these calculations. First, you quote from a chart that shows earnings per team. Sportrac lists both earnings per year and earnings per team. JGood has been on the Suns twice. You seemed to dismiss the claim that his contracts with the Suns total $3.5M. The figures on Sportac seem accurate, with several explanations and caveats. The chart you quoted combines JGood's first season with the Suns in 23-24 (when he signed a multi-year contract for $5M, not all of which was guaranteed) and his current contract. In 23-24, the Suns paid JGood almost $1.2M, plus he got $50,000 for the NBA Cup (Dec 23). When the Suns traded JGood to Brooklyn, the Nets paid him $731,271 and waived him. Then JGood signed with Memphis ... a 10-day contract and a then two-way contract. Then JGood signed a series of contracts with the Lakers: first a training camp contract, then a two-way contract, then a contract for the end of the 2025 season that included a partially guaranteed contract for the current season (2025-26, which becomes fully guaranteed January 10, 2026). So JGood is playing under contract now, receiving biweekly checks. Most NBA players get paid every two weeks. I don't know the specifics of JGood's details in that regard, but most likely he gets paid every two weeks according to the contract. Since the beginning of this season, he's likely getting biweekly checks for a portion of the contract amount: $2,349,578. Quick math says it's over $165,000 gross every two weeks. Obviously lots of taxes, deductions, etc., as we all know. The partially guaranteed part of this has two parts. A small part is guaranteed. Between now and early January, JGood can be waived for any reason, and the Suns would not owe him any more, but they wouldn't reclaim the biweekly amount he is receiving now. If JGood is still on the team by January 10, he is guaranteed the remaining part of the full contract amount = $2,349,578. Like others, I questioned why JGood was quick to sign with the Suns. The answer is he took a bet on himself, and so far, it is paying off. He has stated that he likes living in Phoenix and he is comfortable there. When he signed with the Suns in July, he did not have a guaranteed spot on the roster; he could have been waived at any point for any reason. In the pre-season, JGood beat out Jared Butler for the final spot on the team. For the first five games of the current season, JGood mostly sat on the bench, playing only a few minutes in garbage time. Since the sixth game of the season, he has been part of the regular rotation. The Suns were 1-4 before JGood was inserted into the rotation. Since JGood has been part of the rotation, the Suns are 10-3. With injuries to Jalen Green, Grayson Allen, and Ryan Dunn, JGood has started the last two games, and he is listed to start again tonight against the Kings. The game tonight is part of the NBA Cup, so there is additional money on the line: the Suns are undefeated (2-0) in NBA Cup games this year. In sum, JGood is currently getting paid at a biweekly rate of about $165,000 (gross). He has been paid about $3.8M gross so far. Granted, he can be waived at any point for any reason by the Suns until early January, but that seems highly unlikely, given that he is starting. As others have noted, because he has been putting up numbers similar to what we saw when he was at SLU (with double doubles just about every game, with incredible rebounding stats) JGood is now considered to be one of the best values in the NBA. It does seem likely that, if he stays healthy, JGood may be offered a significantly better contract next year. Still, it seems incorrect to say that he has made $2.2M to date (because this figure leaves out the $1.1M he made with the Suns in 23-24 and the amount he has made so far this season), and I don't think it is accurate to say that he has not been paid, or that the Suns are likely to part ways with him, or (as some have suggested in this thread) that JGood needs a new agent. JGood is doing great. So long as he stays healthy and productive for the next six weeks, his current contract will become fully guaranteed (so that the Suns won't be able to cut him if he were to get hurt). Fans of the Bills should be thankful: Life is sunny for JGood now! ArmySportsDoc, BuiltFordBills, willie and 1 other 4 Quote
ArmySportsDoc Posted November 27 Posted November 27 It doesn’t appear JGood started, but he had another good game against the Kings last night, a game that the Suns won 112-100 to move to 3-0 in NBA cup play. They trail the Thunder significantly in point differential, which is the tiebreaker, but are in good position to earn the West wild card slot if they continue to play well. JGood played 24 min, scoring 7 points on 3-8 shooting (1-5 from 3), with 8 boards (2 offensive), 2 assists, 2 steals, 1 block, 0 turnovers and led the team at +15 while picking up 3 personal fouls. It includes a detailed analysis of Goodwin's defensive style and contributions. The article is linked here: "The importance of Jordan Goodwin in Phoenix’s defensive ecosystem: The Suns’ defense has a hidden engine driving it forward". Here's the article's conclusion: "Jordan Goodwin reminds us that a player’s value — especially a defender’s — is not defined by highlights, but by the number of decisions the opponent never gets to make ... Goodwin is the first blade of a system drawn by Jordan Ott. Collin Gillespie carries the second unit offensively. Jordan Goodwin carries it defensively." https://www.brightsideofthesun.com/suns-analysis/93874/goodwin-defensive-impact-phoenix-elite-metrics-coverage-versatility-screen-navigation Pistol, BuiltFordBills, 2010andBeyond and 4 others 7 Quote
TWH03 Posted yesterday at 04:40 AM Posted yesterday at 04:40 AM Jordan Played well against a really good OKC team tonight. I’m not sure what will of Grayson Allen shoving Chet and getting ejected. Hope it leads to more minutes for Jordan even if only a game or 2 Quote
thetorch Posted yesterday at 06:51 AM Author Posted yesterday at 06:51 AM Goodwin is solidly in the rotation now and while Colin Gillespie is getting most of the headlines, Goodwin has become the lead defender on the team. With Allen up and down play and now Booker is out for a few more days the minutes will continue to pile up for Goodwin. No stopping this OKC team. Best team since the Bulls heyday. almaman 1 Quote

To this point, Goodwin was guarding Anthony Edwards during the last 5 minutes of a tight road win against the Twolves Monday night. If he keeps doing what he’s been doing the past 6 weeks, he’s finally looking at getting a guaranteed multi year deal. Quote
