The Lakers still need cap space to sign Smart. They must make an additional move before he gets signed, either releasing Goodwin which will cost them only 25k or putting together a trade. Goodwin's release is much more likely. Quote

thetorch Posted July 21 Author Posted July 21 Goodwin will be on the waiver wire for 48 hours. If he hits the open market he should have a number of teams interested in him for a minimum salary 1 year deal. Quote
OkieBilliken Posted July 21 Posted July 21 Well at least now I can get back to hating the Lakers again. Now with even more reason. JettFlight5, BuiltFordBills, billiken_roy and 5 others 8 Quote

BJK Posted July 21 Posted July 21 Goodwin was at the minimum salary for his experience level. He had 25,000 guaranteed that they will pay and around 2+ million in contract that the Lakers freed up to stay under the cap enough to afford the Smart contract. Someone will pick him up for that amount I’m fairly certain… and if he does clear he could opt to take another two way with the lakers because they have one spot available in that regard… or he could opt for free agency. We will know after the 48 hours are up! Quote
slufan13 Posted July 21 Posted July 21 Would love to see him sign with the Pacers solely because they're in driving distance and Haliburton is out for the year cgeldmacher and BuiltFordBills 2 Quote
thetorch Posted July 21 Author Posted July 21 Goodwin was on a minimum salary deal but it carried multiple years. Goodwin is not eligible to be a 2 way player anymore. Quote
Lord Elrond Posted July 23 Posted July 23 It looks like the Suns picked up Jordan. Happy news! Go Suns! Quote
billiken_roy Posted July 23 Posted July 23 well they cut him before. excuse me if i wait to see if this works out. CenHudDude 1 Quote
HoosierPal Posted July 23 Posted July 23 well they cut him before. excuse me if i wait to see if this works out. Yuri played on the Suns Summer League team. I was hoping they would pick him up. Quote
thetorch Posted July 23 Author Posted July 23 The Suns picked up Goodwin off waivers so his contract that he had with the Lakers will resume. Still only guaranteed 25k until the January cutoff date. The Suns now have 14 players on their roster along with 3 two way players. Say thanks to former Dayton HC Brian Gregory, who also many pushed to be our coach at certain times, who is the GM for the Suns. Quote

Coach314 Posted July 24 Posted July 24 well they cut him before. excuse me if i wait to see if this works out. Understood. That team was full of vets...they seem to be embracing the youth movement this year. They have a lot of guards, but not many who can guard the point guard position. Quote
Compton Posted July 24 Posted July 24 well they cut him before. excuse me if i wait to see if this works out. I see returning to the Suns (vs. some other team) as a good thing. They're not some team taking a flyer on him because they've "heard good things." He's actually played for them. They know what he can do and the kind of player he is and want him back. I see it as a big vote of confidence. Quote

If Jordan is with the Suns until December 30. He only gets 25k. Or is the contract prorated to the calendar ( games played) . Also if he gets released tomorrow he will be paid 25k unless picked up? As with most professional contracts the lower end seems very underpaid while the top is vastly overpaid. Quote
Old guy Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Congratulations J. Goodwin, hope the Suns keep you in the team for a long time. All the best. Quote

If Goodwin is released before the season, he gets 25k and that is it. He will get paid during the season per his contract but at anytime he could be released for just 25k until Jan 7th. Goodwin would have been better off getting through waivers and signing a new contract without such an easy out. The Pistons decided they were going to claim him so the Suns, with a worst record and higher claim spot, jumped and grabbed him off waivers before Detroit could have. Suns were prepared to give him a contract without such an easy buyout. Quote
