But Hargrove is not Donnie Dobbs.  Yes, Donnie was a tough dude, saw him play many times.  Hargrove has shown his deficiencies as a power forward pretty much every time he has faced a true PF.  SLU needs a PFwho can deal with 6'8", 230lb PF types IMO.  But, yes, a solid backup center is the #1 need followed by PF and PG.

what A-10 team has the "6'8", 230lb PF type" and a center as big or bigger that requires we have the same on the floor?

and even if a team does is that 6'8", 230lb PF type athletic and fast enough to stay with hargrove running the floor?   i.e. if we play right we turn the disadvantage into an advantage.   see the golden state warriors who currently are sometimes playing 4 wings at a time and look like they are going to be in the NBA finals imo.  over the years, i have noticed that NBA trends seem to turn into college trends as well. going "small" seems to be a lot more common now.

personally i love this trend.   seeing the lane opened up is very refreshing to see imo and has made he driving guards more attractive.  and if a team has a defender stay in the paint then that defensive team is open to allow more three's.  thus, they typically have to go smaller as well.

now the likes of duke, kentucky, kansas, etc, get away with it because they have incredible sized and athletic inside guys that can do it all.   the A-10 typically doesnt.

Wake getting both Andrew Carr and Bradford would be quite a kick in the nuts for SLU.  They don't necessarily play the same position, but both big guys who would have been good fits for SLU's needs.

I still think we need two more bigs.  You have 13 guys that can be on scholarship.  3 bigs is the minimum.  When Linssen was hurt last year, Okoro constantly had to worry about getting into foul trouble.  We don't necessarily need a superstar as the 3rd big, but we need someone who can provide depth.

Four guards/wings works at a high level when all four starters can handle and pass the ball.  We don't have that. Most of that ballhandling/passing responsibility will still fall on Yuri but at least Perkins and Pickett are decent secondary options. Which is an improvement over last year when all we had was Yuri and sometimes Nesbitt.  Perkins and Pickett would have been the 2nd and 3rd leading assist guys on last year's team.

Did we even want Bradford?

Benjamin Bosmans-Verdonk to South Carolina. Backup big from Illinois who we were recruiting.

He visited here last week, from the South Carolina board:

Bosmans-Verdonk took an official visit to South Carolina beginning Thursday last week. Following a visit to St. Louis earlier this week.

I'd heard the opposite order, that he was supposed to come here this week. So I assumed the SC visit went well enough that he canceled on us. Maybe he was here Monday/Tuesday and SC still won out.

Bradford did nothing for a 14 and 17 team that was next to last in the Big 12.  About 15 mpg and 3.3 ppg.  No tears here but we need some answers and signings soon.

Bradford went to Penn State, then Wake. Was so blown away by the Wake visit that he cancelled visits to Illinois and Ohio State. Didn’t visit SLU.

We're just bored.  There are scores of backup big men in the portal.  It may take months to find a match, but it will happen.

If we don’t get a commitment by summer solstice I’m gonna flip out, man.

There are approximately 1600 players in the portal.    A lot of them are difference makers and will be stars in their conference where ever they wind up playing. Are they all stars?...No ...But do we need 1600 players? ...again , no.  We just need 2 or 3 players out of the 1600. See the link below for a discussion about availability and a few under the radar stars.

Not satisfied ...still on edge....Here is the whole list of players...This list is about 3 weeks old but it is still pretty accurate.
