So the Joeys played at Richmond and Fordham at La Salle.  All other A10 games scheduled were postponed.  The Bonnies at Geedubya; SLU at Umass; Mason at VCU; Dayton at Rhodey; and Duquesne at Davidson.

On Saturday, Mason will travel to Kansas to play at 4 CST.  On Sunday's lineup, Bonaventure is at Dayton; Richmond is at SLU; Umass goes to Fordham; Mason comes back to play Duquesne at 2 EST; La Salle is at Rhodey and Geedubya at the Joeys and Davidson at VCU are already postponed. So .................

That seems to indicate we have COVID problems with Geedubya and VCU.  They keep postponing.  Everyone else i splaying but it raises the question why or who cancelled the SLU/Umass game?  Both are playing Sunday (so far).  A10 Talk indicates problems also in the Duquesne camp.  Will that Sunday matchup with Mason be cancelled?  Is that why Mason took the Knasa game ... knowing full well in advance that Duquesne will cave?  Frankly, I don't have a warm-n-fuzzy that we will play Sunday either.

Sorry 'bout that but the Davidson VCU game has been postponed.  Bad start for USA Network A-10 deal.

Fordham has beaten La Salle and now Duquesne.  Two of the arguably worst teams in the A10.  Duquesne was up one, at the line, shooting a 1-and-1 with under 10- seconds to go at Fordham last night.  Kevin Easley missed the front end, Fordham's Kyle Rose grabbed the rebound, passed to half court where Antonio Daye Jr., drove to the basket and made the lay up with 4 ticks to go.  Duquesne was out of timeouts and had to launch a prayer that missed.  Fordham gets the 72 to 71 win but now gets us Saturday pissed and coming home off a loss.  We better win by 20.

URI hung on to beat the Joeys in Kingston last night by eleven, 75 to 64.  Hung on is a tough verb for an 11-point win but that was what it was.  At one point in the second half, neither team could do much but URI recovered enough down the stretch to pull away.  St. Joe's was onyl down three with about six to go but then couldn't do a damn thing.  They missed free throws.  Threes.  Committed turnovers and fouls.  And this included supposed studs Joran Hall and Taylor Funk.  URI also had to overcome Markel Mitchell who fouled out and was assessed his second game technical (got his first at Davidson the game before).  Mitchell can be a head case AND the team's leading scorer.  URI is balanced but undisciplined most nights.

Before Tuesday's game against La Salle, Schmidt complained he wouldn't have a full bench of players.  Overtime.  A 45 minute game .... Osunniyi played 43 minutes.  Adaway 45.  Welch 45.  Holmes 45.  And Lofton 44.  Thge only two subs he ever uses, Coulibay and Adams, got 2 and 1 minute apiece.  If this doesn't show you exactly who the Bonnies are, you haven't been paying attention.

Good games Friday.  We'll see just how well VCU shoots in Olean and then Davidson plays at Richmond.

Interesting night coming up.  These, still early, games will impact the league pecking order.

Yes these four plus the Billikens and Dayton all are capable for winning the league.  Rhody could grab a top 4 seed, but I'd call them a dark horse to win the regular league.

You can't overlook Davidson either.  Essentially, they have traded Kellan Grady for Foster Loyer which I think is an overall loss for Davidson but McKillop is still working wonders.  Lee still leads them in scoring but Loyer is close behind at 17.4 ppg to 15.9 ppg.  Then comes Brajkovic.  Fourth is Mike Smith who, along with the rest of the Davidson roster, does nothing for me.  Mennenga remains a mystery and the bench is incredibly weak.  I think that does not bode well come a stretch of three or four games in a row for the Wildcats.

The Bonnies still go five deep.  Ditto Davidson.  Dayton remains incredibly young and while Smith is ruling their backcourt, he is still just a freshman.  Richmond hasn't found a fifth reliable starter what with Sherod's slow return to form.  Despite lesterquarles claim of VCU fame, their leading scorer Vince Williams score a little over 10 ppg while Ace Baldwin is also at just over 10 ppg.  The best thing VCU has going for it is their usual tough defense which translates into turnovers and more offensive opportunities.  They go about 11 deep on any given night so if the refs are loose, VCU will get away with it.  And even if the refvs call it tight, the bench is deep enough to sustain a few losses per night.  They are pretty much shock value because their defense is something you only see when you play them.  Tough to prep for that.  Just wait until they try to abuse Yuri come our game.  We WILL need help.

Rhode Island is a veteran team.  They dont have a lot of parts to change things up so they can be stymied.  The better Mitchell twin, the offensive guy, does have a tendency to lose his cool easily.  But they will be able to do to us what a lot of team do ... block shots.  Their exterior play is suspect.

Mason started out hot but given their pause, I haven't seen much of them lately.  They are veteran but with transfers and transfers, when a whoile team, can take a while to gel, if at all.

Still early but counting us, that's nine teams vying for four top slots.  And the A10 will cannibalize itself ---- bank on it.

🙄 Dayton shot 27 free throws, VCU shot 2. VCU still won at their place, unlike SLU. Loose refs, huh?

VCU only took 7 more shots than SLU against Dayton, and made the same amount. Most of the missed 3s were contested and late in the shot clock (since Dayton actually plays defense, like the majority of teams on VCU's OOC schedule this season, unlike SLU's). By the way, you said Ace Baldwin never hit a 3 before the game winner. He actually hit two 3's in a row, but that hurts your narrative, so you changed the story. VCU hit most of their open shots that game. If they had Jayden Nunn and Levi Stockard for that game, two starters, they likely win pretty easily.

The only reason Ace and Vince average over 10 ppg is because of VCU's deep bench and literally anyone contributing in spurts at any given time, so of course the starters aren't going to take a ton of shots like other teams do. But I can only imagine how many points Jamir Watkins would be averaging, barring the torn ACL on the first day of practice. He'd be their best player. VCU is likely undefeated and ranked top 10 in the nation at this point if they had him and Ace all season. It was a 4 point game with 14 seconds left against Baylor without Ace.

Yuri has been doing a fine job turning it over the last few games. VCU @ SLU will be super fun for Ace and Jayden Nunn, whether the refs are loose or not.
