I never would've thought Kyle Cassity was that high on the list. Good for him.

At Yuri's current average of 11 he's on pace to replace Erwin Claggett for a spot in the Top 10 by the end of next week, and would climb as high as 5th before conference play. He sits just 115 shy of the all time leader, Josh Fisher at 436. Have to think he will shatter that this year and that's after just half a season last year and a shortened season his true freshman year - at 11 APG he would finish the year with 319 this year alone, for a total of 618. If he stays healthy and uses both of his two years of eligibility remaining after this year he could more than double the record of 436!!!!!

I also expect him to move higher on the single-game and single season assists record board - he's 4th and 3rd on those, respectively, with 12 and 171.

Important to note that last night's final score was just 3 points short of tying the school's single-game scoring record.

This post is OT. I am publicly accepting  that a lot of what I said about the game at Harris Stowe was incorrect. My bad, I apologize. I have no idea how this will or will not affect our official tournament standing or selection chances when the time comes.  However, in a more immediate fashion the win against Harris Stowe had immediate effects upon Team Rankings status.

I follow Team Rankings and like it. Before the HS game our overall  ranking was 84 and our A10 ranking was 5. After the game last night, our  overall ranking went up to 65 and our A10 ranking went up to 2. That said, Team ranking did not provide any information or predictions about the game itself, either before or after the game. No odds or Vegas line was provided for this game which is not their normal procedure.

So there it is, at least for betting purposes the game last night did have an effect upon our standing, so it had some value to us overall. Again, my apologies, my bad.

This isn't even a small sample size stat, but Yuri Collins is currently 3rd in the nation in assists per game.

And once again, keep minutes and games played in perspective. What Yuri is doing is more impressive than anyone else near him on the list.

Converting the top 9 (everyone over 8 per game) from assists per game to assists per minute played:

1. Yuri Collins (SLU) - 0.45 assists per minute

2. Sahvir Wheeler (Kentucky) - 0.36 apm

3. Jose Perez (Manhattan) - 0.34 apm

4. Jr. Clay (Tn Tech) - 0.32 apm

5. Posh Alexander (St Johns) - 0.32 apm

6. Taran Armstrong (Cal Baptist) - 0.31 apm

7. Aaron Cook (Georgia) - 0.28 apm

8. Tyler Breslsford (Bryant) - 0.26 apm

9. Kevin Johnson (Illinois-Chicago) - 0.20 apm

Obviously the level of competition is playing a huge factor here.  Wheeler's 10 assists in 38 minutes vs Duke is arguably more impressive then Yuri's 10 assists in 15 minutes vs Harris Stowe for example.  I don't expect Yuri to continue to be that far ahead of the competition, but he should be in the mix at the top of all assist stats regardless of the denominator.

https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/32654878/ncaa-upholds-penalties-umass-basketball-tennis-includes-vacating-results

The NCAA announced Wednesday that the Division I Infractions Appeals Committee upheld penalties against Massachusetts' men's basketball and women's tennis programs in a case that garnered national attention as one of the athletes involved took her fight public.

The appeals committee confirmed that the school provided impermissible financial aid of about $9,100 to 12 athletes over three years that made them ineligible for competition.

Last year, the committee on infractions' ruling vacated 2014-17 results that included 59 basketball victories and an Atlantic 10 Conference championship in women's tennis.

So does this change the 2014-15 L to a W?  Is our record now 12-20 instead of 11-21 for that season?  Yeah Baby!

At his current clip, Yuri passes Josh Fisher in mid January for the all-time assists record

If Yuri uses his two remaining years of eligibility - which I think he will - he'll have a totally unbreakable record in that department. Love to see it.

Like Cam Newton for rushing TD's by a QB.

Someone coming along as good as Yuri is would be unlikely to begin with, but that person also getting a 5th year of eligibility and using it is what seals Yuri in the record book forever.

Not to jack @HoosierPal's thread but this probably makes more sense here than anywhere else.

I'm continuing the tradition of periodically updating the current team's chase of the record books throughout the season. The hardest part this season is that it's not 100% clear which class people should be classified in, so I'm going with what the roster says for this season. I'm a little late starting it this year, but here's where we stand through 11 games:

Marten Linssen has a FG% of .603, which would put him fifth all-time in a season and first among seniors. His FT% of .813 is a little outside the top 10 for seniors, needing to get to .832 (Kevin Lisch). He has 12 blocked shots and needs to get to 27 to tie for tenth (Justin Tatum, Jamal Johnson).

DeAndre Jones is shooting .429 from 3, which would be good for fourth all-time for seniors and tied for eighth overall. His .917 from the FT line would be second all-time for a season. He needs to reach 50 attempts to make either list, and he's currently on pace to do so for 3-pointers but not FTs.

Francis Okoro is currently .527 from the field, a little short of the junior FG% top ten. His .773 FT% is also a bit shy of the .803 needed for junior FT%. He's also on pace to be short of the total rebounding and rebounding average lists. However, he has 16 blocks through 11 games and only needs to reach 27 blocks to tie Kenny Brown for tenth among juniors.

Fred Thatch is .560 from the field, which would be tied with Anthony Bonner for fifth all time among juniors. He has 14 steals and needs to reach 45 (Anthony Drejaj) to reach the junior top ten, so he's very close to the pace he needs.

Rashad Williams is shooting .375 from 3, just shy of where he needs to be (.385) to tie Lisch and Davell Roby for ninth for juniors. He needs to get to 50 attempts, too.

Brandon Courtney is not in the mix for any junior records.

Yuri Collins now has 374 career assists and is seventh all-time. The next guy to pass is LaTodd Johnson (400). He owns the freshman assist record (171) and his 116 in a shortened season last year are fifth among sophomores. The sophomore record is 142 (Johnson), a mark he should pass easily this season, as he already has 87. His 19 assists vs. BC gave him the all-time single game record, passing Jim Roder's 18. He has 24 steals this season and needs to reach 39 to tie Jordair Jett for tenth for sophomores. His FT% of .784 is currently tenth for sophomores.

Terrence Hargrove is shooting .423 from three, which is on pace to be third place among sophomores. He has 6 blocks and needs to get to 19 to tie Tommie Liddell and Matt Baniak on the sophomore top ten list.

Gibson Jimerson is averaging 16.7 PPG in his third freshman season, which would put him second behind only Larry Hughes for freshman scoring average. He's also on pace to finish second behind Hughes (670) in total points. He's already second in freshman three-point field goal percentage at .429, which is also good for eighth on the all-class list, and his .407 clip this year would be good for fifth on the freshman list. His 37 three-pointers last season tied him with Anthony Drejaj and Marcus Bartley for ninth among freshmen and he already has 24 this season. His .875 FT% would be a freshman record and fifth overall for a season.

Jordan Nesbitt is averaging 9.5 PPG, a little outside the freshman top ten; he needs to reach 11.0 PPG to tie Kwamain Mitchell. He has 105 points and needs 321 to tie Lisch and Milik Yarbrough for ninth among freshmen. His rebounding numbers (5.1 RPG, 51 total) are also just shy of the pace he needs (5.6 RPG, 162) for the class top ten, as well. His .368 3P% is barely behind Scott Highmark's tenth place mark of .369. He has 12 steals and needs to hit 33 (Carlos McCauley) for 10th.

Lassina Traore has a FG% of .722, which would be an all-class record for a season if he reached 100 attempts. But he stands at 18, well off pace. He would also need to play a lot more to be in the mix for any rebounding marks.

Markhi Strickland is currently .571 from the field, which would be good for fourth all-time among freshman, but he has the same issue as Traore - 14 FGA.

Andre Lorentsson is a perfect 1.000 from the field in only three field goal attempts.

Javonte Perkins is out for the season. After two seasons at SLU, he is tied for 10th all time in scoring average (15.9) with Bill Morris. He has 825 career points and will easily make it into the 1,000-point club if he returns next season. His .866 FT% last season is good for sixth all time in a season and fourth for seniors.

Takeaways after going through that exercise:
-The COVID bonus year is going to make the record books weird everywhere forever.
-Collins and Jimerson are going to be all over the sophomore and freshman lists twice, respectively.
-Nesbitt just needs incremental improvement or a few more MPG to be on a bunch of freshman lists. (I would argue doing the latter would lead to the former - give him a little more leash.)
-It's early but I've been doing this for several years and we've never had this many players projecting to be on or near top ten shooting percentage lists. This team is more efficient scoring from everywhere than any other Ford team, which I'm sure people already know by now.
-All of the above makes me wonder how much better we'd be with Perkins.

Updated through the Dayton game:

Marten Linssen has a FG% of .571, which would put him tied in sixth with Jim Roder for seniors and just outside the all-time top ten. His FT% of .820 is a little outside the top 10 for seniors, needing to get to .832 (Kevin Lisch). He has 12 blocked shots and needs to get to 27 to tie for tenth (Justin Tatum, Jamal Johnson).

DeAndre Jones is shooting .400 from 3, which would be just shy of the senior top ten - John Duff is tenth with .401. His .917 from the FT line would be second all-time for a season. He needs to reach 50 attempts to make either list, and he's currently on pace to do so for 3-pointers but not FTs.

Francis Okoro is currently .529 from the field, a little short of the junior FG% top ten. His .732 FT% is also a bit shy of the .803 needed for junior FT%. He's also on pace to be short of the total rebounding and rebounding average lists. However, he has 25 blocks through 15 games and only needs to reach 27 blocks to tie Kenny Brown for tenth among juniors.

Fred Thatch is .500 from the field, which would fall a little short of the top ten for juniors. He has 17 steals and needs to reach 45 (Anthony Drejaj) to reach the junior top ten, so he's a little off the pace he needs.

Rashad Williams is shooting .333 from 3, short of where he needs to be (.385) to tie Lisch and Davell Roby for ninth for juniors. He needs to get to 50 attempts, too.

Brandon Courtney is not in the mix for any junior records.

Yuri Collins now has 402 career assists and is sixth all-time, having just passed LaTodd Johnson (400). The next guy to pass is Jordan Goodwin (404), likely to happen in the next game. He owns the freshman assist record (171) and his 116 in a shortened season last year are fifth among sophomores. The sophomore record is 142 (Johnson), a mark he should pass easily this season, as he already has 115. His 19 assists vs. BC gave him the all-time single game record, passing Jim Roder's 18. He has 29 steals this season and needs to reach 39 to tie Jordair Jett for tenth for sophomores. His FT% of .769 is currently shy of the top ten for sophomores.

Terrence Hargrove is shooting .378 from three, which is on pace to be tenth place among sophomores. He has 9 blocks and needs to get to 19 to tie Tommie Liddell and Matt Baniak on the end of the sophomore top ten list.

Gibson Jimerson is averaging 16.5 PPG in his third freshman season, which would put him second behind only Larry Hughes for freshman scoring average. He's also on pace to finish second behind Hughes (670) in total points. He's already second in freshman three-point field goal percentage at .429, which is also good for eighth on the all-class list, and his .387 clip this year would be good for eighth on the freshman list. His 37 three-pointers last season tied him with Anthony Drejaj and Marcus Bartley for ninth among freshmen and he already has 29 this season. His .897 FT% would be a freshman record and third overall for a season.

Jordan Nesbitt is averaging 9.9 PPG, a little outside the freshman top ten; he needs to reach 11.0 PPG to tie Kwamain Mitchell. He has 148 points and needs 321 to tie Lisch and Milik Yarbrough for ninth among freshmen. His rebounding numbers (4.5 RPG, 68 total) are also short of the pace he needs (5.6 RPG, 162) for the class top ten, as well. His .340 3P% is behind Scott Highmark's tenth place mark of .369. He has 16 steals and needs to hit 33 (Carlos McCauley) for 10th.

Lassina Traore has a FG% of .714, which would be an all-class record for a season if he reached 100 attempts. But he stands at 21, well off pace. He would also need to play a lot more to be in the mix for any rebounding marks.

Markhi Strickland is currently .474 from the field, which is short of the top ten for freshmen, but he has the same issue as Traore - 19 FGA.

Andre Lorentsson is a perfect 1.000 from the field in only three field goal attempts.
