How about we don't bog down the entire board with this back and forth? If you see something you don't like, move on and block the person. No need for politics here.

Agreed. There’s a time and a place for that stuff. No matter what side of the aisle you’re on, I think we can all agree this board is infinitely better when we don’t talk about politics. Let’s just let it go.

My Starting 5 Prediction:

Yuri

Nesbitt

Hargrove

Perkins

Okoro

i feel like 4 of the 5 are locks. T think the 5th starting spot is between Hargrove and Thatch, and Jimerson will start the year off the bench.

This board always gets bogged down with who starts.  I'll go with who gets the minutes every time, particularly the closing minutes of a close game.  With Goodwin and French's minutes up for grabs, which 2 to 4 players gets those minutes is most important.

Nesbitt will play, and his minutes will depend on how well he defends.  Ford has a high standard on D.  We have a handful of players that could average double digit points, Nesbitt being one of them.  The divider on minutes will be how well they defend and rebound.

We have a big hole on the boards to fill with Goodwin and French gone.  Okoro by himself won't make up the difference.  Perkins will get his share, but expecting him to average 7 to 9 boards per game is a reach.  Thatch has shown the strength and desire to rebound, but he can't stay out of foul trouble.  It will be interesting.

Nesbitt is probably on par with the freshman version of Goodwin on defense.  And Goodwin was one of our best defenders.

Who had the best 3 point shooting percentage on the team on last season's conference games?  Fred Thatch at 40% is the answer.

But wasn’t that on like 12 attempts or some outrageously low sample size?

The more I think about it, I think starting Thatch over Hargrove makes more sense. I like having the rebounding and defense of Thatch to start the game - hopefully prevent the other team from getting off to a fast start offensively. Guys like GJ and Williams can provide an offensive spark off the bench and Hargrove is an excellent energy guy well suited to come off the bench.

As long as it doesn’t come at the cost of us getting of to a slow start offensively. Don’t get me wrong, I love Yuri. But I’ll believe he’s a consistent scorer when I see it. We know Perkins is a walking bucket, and Nesbitt should be able to score in bunches. I think Okoro is a gonna be a monster, but we haven’t seen it yet. And we’ve never seen Thatch be a big time scorer either. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but that starting lineup, right now, leaves a lot of question marks offensively.

I would bet there is a greater than 50% chance that each of Nesbitt, Thatch, Jimerson, Yuri and Hargrove start at some point during the year. Guessing at this point who has the lead seems tough since they will all have the chance to earn their minutes and the coaching staff probably doesn't even know yet. For me, the bigger question is on the rotation. Will Strickland, Lorentsson, or Williams be a key contributor? Will Hargrove and Perkins play together? Will Linssen and Okoro play together? Those types of decisions are what drives how the minutes shake out, IMO

Fred was 4/10 from 3 in conference. Yes, he was really effective and efficiency numbers loved what he did, but it’s hard to make broad sweeping conclusions about many aspects of his game from the sample size. Heck, he only took 16 3’s for the entire year, and just 71 shots total. He had the highest offensive rating in the A10 for conference play, but the usage is so low that it is hard to really say if that will translate with more time.

We have an old-school situation where the guys slotted 3 through 5 present the toughest matchup problem on offense: Nesbitt, Perkins and Okoro.  Double teams leave guys open.  There's an opportunity for Rashad Williams to get easier shots in a reserve role than he ever got at Oakland.  Hope he gets cleared.

I need this schedule to be finalized so I can plan some travel.   I have 18 DEC vs Auburn circled.

Anyone up for a trip to Olean?  If I go I'll probably visit Pittsburgh and drive.

Maybe George Mason if things line up with work to cover a trip east.

Memphis could be cool.

Where's the conference tournament this year?

Games at Duquesne, Dayton, and St. Bonaventure are possibilities for me.  (Weather will be a big factor for Dayton and especially the Bonnies.  Duquesne is my easiest trip.)

And you literally never post on this board anymore unless somebody says something politically that you don’t like, so you can play the victim. Goes both ways.

I’m sorry, I thought political talk wasn’t welcomed on this board, I guess it’s just a certain type of political talk is not welcomed. I sure hope none of our players or coaches choose not to be vaccinated, what a horror that would be...

And not getting vaccinated shouldn’t be either...  sad, that we can’t respect everyone’s choice... I’ve personally been vaccinated, but would never call someone who isn’t an idiot...

Sorry they are an idiot. This has nothing to do with politics. It’s pure science. And social responsibility. Politics has nothing to do with it .

Agreed. Anything to avoid a long quarantine like last year. It'd be nice to get in more than 10 regular season games.

Lol. You misunderstand me. I don’t care if a person is right or left. What offends me is that you only seem to pop up on this board when you find an opportunity to play the victim because you got suspended. You quite literally haven’t posted about ANYTHING Billikens related in MONTHS. THAT is what offends me.

How do you like it?

I miss my home of nearly 50 years (St. Louis), but this is where God has led me.  I'm settled.  I've found someone willing to marry me!  That's one of C-land's redeeming qualities!

They consider a 90-degree day very hot here.  But lake-effect snow makes it The Mistake by the Lake.

In his three seasons his 3 point percents ...... 26.9% frosh, 16.7% sophomore, 31.3% in his covid sophomore year.  And his 2 point % by year isn't anything to write home about.  Hope he brings his shooting efficiency up, but until he does, he's a star defensive specialist in my book.

Love all the starting lineup talk!!  Got my blood pumping on this boring Tuesday.  Got to say I’m going with

1. Collins, 2. Nesbit, 3. Jimmmmerson, 4. Perkins,  5. Okora

small lineup with a bunch of ‘short leashes’.  Hargrove added a 3 shot to his game last year, which is awesome, but big difference between being able to create offense and popping wide open corner 3s.  I don’t remember seeing him take guys off the dribble or effectively use screens to get shots.  Thatch… hey, I’m Fred’s biggest fan.  But you never know if his illness could flare up again.. I think he and the coach’s will always have his minutes in the back of their minds not to over work him.
