My thoughts on our current schedule below. I really really like the schedule. I am all for playing other competitive mid majors especially if we can't get Power 5 conference teams to schedule us. Of note, Barrtorvik ranks below are projections for next season and KenPom ranks are from the end of last season.

  1. 11/20 vs. Mercer (Barttorvik -160, KenPom - 131) - Buy Game and hopefully easy win for the Season opener to work out any kinks - I am not opposed to an easy game to start the season

  2. 11/23 vs. Buffalo (Barrtorvik -80, Kenpom -77) - top 100 neutral site game against a very competitive non-power conference team. (Their Head Coach is Jim Whitesell). I like this game. Good winnable neutral site game. (Of course, I would love a better early season tournament....)

  3. 11/24 vs. IL State/SFA in Cancun (IL State Barrtorvik -189, Kenpom -198/SFA Barrtorvik -319, Kenpom -151) -I'm not excited about this game, especially as an early season tournament game... Both of these teams have been relevant in their conferences in recent years, but doubt they will be this year. Championship game of our early season tournament? Ugh.... Oh well... If this is the only part of the schedule I'm not excited for, I'd say it's a pretty good schedule.
  4. 11/30 at Boise State (Barrtorvik -68, Kenpom -61) - Top 100 away game against a very competitive mid major. I also really like this game. Good winnable road game.

  5. 12/22 vs. Drake in Las Vegas (Barrtorvik -60, Kenpom -55) - Top 100  game against a very competitive mid major. I also really like this game. Another Good winnable neutral site game.

  6. TBA vs. Auburn (Barrtorvik -18, Kenpom -60)  - Good Power 5 conference team. Home court advantage gives us a chance. Any time we can get a potential top 25 power conference team into Chaifetz is a scheduling coup.

  7. TBA vs. UAB (Barrtorvik -87, Kenpom -102) - Good Conference USA team. Should be a top 100 team. I really like this game and think we can win.

  8. TBA vs. Boston College (Barrtorvik -136, Kenpom -148) - I know others won't be as excited as I am, but I really like this game too. Jesuit school from a Power 5 conference. Once again, any time we can get a Power 5 team into Chaifetz is a good game.

  9. TBA @ Memphis (Barrtorvik -10, Kenpom -31) - I really like this game. I think this will be our toughest game of the year. Memphis has had huge success in recent years recruiting with Coach Hardaway.  I think we have a chance.

What am I missing? Why would Cockburn want to come to SLU?

The thought is he will head to Kentucky if he doesn’t go the professional route. Kevin Obanor from Oral Roberts entered the portal if we are just throwing out our wishes.

I don't think he wants to come to SLU, but Cockburn would be best served going to a mid-major program that would make him the focus of their offense and he would put up monster numbers.  He was going to be the third option offensively for the Illini next season.

Because I want Kofi to be a Billiken.

I remember that we were the first team to offer him a scholarship years ago. Outside of that, maybe he sees a lot of talent and wants to take a mid-major to the championship. I mean, he can be good anywhere, but he can become a legend at SLU. :)

Enjoyed that write-up. As for the season opener, the 2021-22 season starts on Nov. 9. So I think we should have 3 or so games before facing Mercer, at least two of which are likely to be significantly easier buy game matchups. Recent examples being SEMO, SIUE, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Washington, Northern Alabama, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Yeah, we probably play the 9th and 13th. Then get ready to take off work a couple days the next week!

There's also the chance that some of the date "TBD" games may be scheduled prior to 11/20.

Nice write up.  Based last season's final NET, the breakdown would be:

3 Q1 games, Memphis, Boise State and Drake

2 Q2 games, Auburn and Buffalo

2 Q3 games, Mercer and UAB

1 Q4 game, BC

SFA would be Q3 and Illinois State Q4.

Auburn for one could easily be a Q1 game, depending on their final roster.  Let's hope BC rises above Q4 with this season's squad.

Another (lengthy yet detailed) A10 preview, with the expected prediction of St. B followed by Richmond, then Dayton (somewhat a surprise) and the Bills followed by VCU.

Don’t get me wrong, I completely understand write-ups like this. I’m not trying to call anyone out here, but I think comparing this year’s team to last year’s team, offensively, is kind of pointless. With Yuri, JGood and Has playing 30+ minutes, we had 3 guys on the court that defenses essentially didn’t have to guard outside of 15 feet. Then you add in all the minutes either Linssen and Bell joined those 3, we had basically 1 outside shooter on the court. I legitimately don’t think that will be the case this year. Of course, I love JGood and Has as much as everyone else. This program isn’t as successful as it is today without those 2 guys. That being said, our offense, especially the last couple years, has gotten really bogged down while trying to force everything down into the paint. I feel confident that our offense this year will be quite a bit more efficient (however, maybe at the cost of or defense and rebounding numbers). That being said, SLU has played “bully ball” for so long, I don’t mind the prognosticators assuming more of the same. I just think things may look a lot different this year. I really do.

The news here is I did not know Ace Baldwin of VCU is likely out for the year.  As the article says, VCU had trouble with the ball WITH Baldwin and Bones Hyland.  Now they don't have both.  Can anyone confirm the Baldwin absence?
