Bonner89
In reality, they struck gold in ‘99 and it carried over when Mark Few took the job. There is absolutely zero reason that a tiny Jesuit school in Spokane should be one of the best programs of the current era, and a favorite for this year’s title. What Butler did was special. What Villanova has done is special. But both of them are in major metro areas compared to Spokane, and it’s not like the Eastern Washington area is known for producing studs. They are what SLU should've been decades ago. In modern sports, their consistency might be the most impressive thing in the US.

They’re 1/2 in their careers for NCAA tournaments that have actually happened already... Both played in more NCAA games than the guy your user name is based on. Does SLU have nothing to show for Bonner’s entire career? Regular season matters. Non NCAA postseason (conference tournaments, NIT, etc.) matter. Players graduating & developing into excellent men on & off the court matter. Go back under your bridge dude. billiken_roy likes this

Yeah, the bad conference angle is lazy and wrong. If anything, their conference has hurt them over the years. Until recently, recruiting was still a challenge for them, and the conference caused them to get under-seeded in some of the early years. RUBillsFan
Just now, brianstl said: They have played and beat the top programs in the country in the non conference season for years. I think a dearth of consistently good programs on the West Coast has helped them take it to the next level. UCLA, Arizona, etc, have all had great seasons during Gonzaga’s run but all have had some ups & downs and coaching turnover. Pac-12 overall has been pretty weak. That means Gonzaga has been able to nab some quality west coast players as the only consistently elite option west of Kansas. brianstl likes this

Stanford, UCLA and now Arizona have fallen like dominos over the last 15 years, leaving a power vacuum.

Trolling reached a new low with that post. One of the worst I've seen in all the time I've read this board, which I'm guessing is about 20 years by now. Clock_Tower
JGood’s first year was part of our complete rebuild before SLU suspended him for the balance of the year. JGood’s second year ended w NCAA Tournament JGood’s third year also to be an NCAA Tournament bid until COVID shut the Tournament down for everyone JGood’s fourth year is not over and we are still in the running for another NCAA bid despite COVID. And if things don’t turn out that way, and if the Tournament is important to JGood, then he can join Perkins next year for a COVID free normal year
