SLU will play USC in the NCAA Tourney Round of 32 on Friday November 22nd, at 5pm local PST (7pm Central), at Great Park Stadium in Irvine. The first game at 2pm PST will be Wisconsin vs Virginia. The winners play there in the Sweet 16, Sunday, November 24th, at a time to be determined.

The winners are scheduled to play Sunday at 4pm Pacific Time. 6pm Central Time.

USC's website is showing the game will actually be played at Great Soccer Park Stadium in Irvine as opposed to Dignity Health. USC has not played a match there this year. Interesting storyline...

I think it’s a scheduling conflict with the LA Galaxy. Their playoff game is scheduled for Sunday, 5pm, which would conflict with the Sunday game in the NCAA schedule for this quad (2 games Friday, USC vs SLU at 7pm, Virginia vs Wisconsin 4pm, with the 2 winners playing Sunday. Probably better to play all of them at one location.

I was more concerned with perhaps less of a homefield advantage for USC. Obviously SLU having to go through the time change is not great but at least USC are also not comfortable with Great Soccer Park.

Yeah, that place is all the way out in Irvine, 45 miles from the USC campus, and in LA traffic too. No homefield advantage for USC at all, more of a neutral site.

Tomorrow afternoon our old friend Caroline Kelly and TCU takes on Penn State down here in Florida.   She of course scored the only goal last weekend as the Frogs edged SFA.   If they win, I may go see them play #1 FSU on Sunday.   Not like Irvine is a driving option.

I don’t think Irvine is a driving option for half the Los Angeles metro area….

Irvine CA is not a neutral site vs USC unless you are talking South Carolina. 45 min in LA is like driving around the block in St Louis. It may technically be called neutral but it certainly is not

Yep.

If one can drive from Simi Valley/Moorpark (IYKYK) to McAlister Field near USC Village, one can take a trip down the 5.

Big week for the 5. Katie Shields grew up in Dana Point 20 miles down the 5 from Great Park. She even coached across the 405 at UC Irvine. Colleen Corbin grew up North in La Cañada Flintridge, and, her dad grew up in Santa Ana 10 miles up the 5. (big USC fam)

Invite the local youth teams. SoCal is one of the best few markets nationally for youth soccer.

Fun week.

I lived in Simi Valley through my Jr year of HS. Went to Royal HS. Back then Simi was only 80k people with just 2 HS Simi and Royal. Both were very good soccer schools. When we played Simi my Jr year we were both ranked. We had just come off a 1-0 upset on the road at Santa Barbara who was ranked #1. Best game of my life, saved a PK with about 10 min left to preserve a 1-0 win. Then we lost 1-0 to Simi. I can still see that goal. I was caught too far off the line and it dropped in over my head from about 30 yards. We lose on a soft goal. Hero to goat in 1 week lol

Moved to Arlington Tx, went to Arlington Lamar for my Sr year and 1st day of practice our coach (A legendary football coach in Tx Eddie Peach. Btw., I hated him as he knew nothing about soccer) told me soccer was to keep football players in shape and that’s literally all soccer was. If I’d have been a field player I wouldn’t have played. We had another transfer (from STL) easily the best player on the team. Rarely saw the field.

So there are 9 Big Ten teams left in the tournament (28% of the field).  The team we are playing is the #1 Seed from that conference.    If the ladies can pull this off, this would be the biggest win in the history of the program.   Is two wins tonight too much to ask?

I’m going to go with yes, it would be the biggest win in program history

TCU falls to Penn State 1-0.   TCU seriously outplayed PSU, especially in the first half.  Caroline Kelly has two massive chances to tie the game, one on a partial breakaway and one on a perfect flighted ball that she just couldn't get her head on.   As her college career ends, I guess she is a Billiken again, at least in my book.   Two consecutive years her season ends at the hands of Penn State.

I do know the previous game went into 2 OT’s, then PK’s (Wisconsin won in PK’s). Still they scheduled 3 hours between games, I would think that is enough time to not delay the start of the next game significantly. What I hate about this message is not knowing if there is a technical issue. They should put up a graphic with a revised start time.

So when will ESPN turn on the game? Still getting a “Your event is starting soon” message

Virgina / Wisc played before SLU on same field. Went to pk. Must be pushing  kick off back.

And neither our social media nor Southern Cal’s mentioned that, unfortunately. Thank you for the update, Lord Elrond. I doff my cap in your general direction. Go Bills. Beat Trojans. #FightOff
