HoosierPal
@courtside We all saw how well Keller did for Austin. From the article posted above, Rookies don’t usually make an impact in their first professional season — so it was somewhat surprising to see Kipp Keller named in Austin’s starting lineup for his first ever MLS game. For a player who was marshaling the defense for Saint Louis University just three months ago, Keller didn’t look out of place in the professional ranks. Clearly physically imposing, the 21-year-old also looked comfortable with the ball at his feet. Parker was listed as active for Dallas, but apparently didn't get in. Which SLU alum's did I miss? I think my answer/post last Thursday prior to opening weekend is pretty much what played out for the games. Not much has changed since then. Keller started, played 65 minutes. Parker was a possible late game sub at left back, didn’t get in. Those two are in better roster positions. Some others played some in preseason and did well but were not in as good of roster positions. Some have been starting and playing a lot in MLS Next Pro during their preseason, Niece, Murana, etc..if you want to follow some of the former SLU players, you’ll need to follow player development in that league as well as MLS. courtside
SLU defeated Ohio State 3-1 in a Spring game today. Legut (2) and Klein, had SLU’s goals. It was an opportunity play a lot of different players, tinker with formations (3 in back) etc…Ohio State’s goal was a PK, their only shot on goal in the game. thatskablamo and HoosierPal like this

courtside
1 minute ago, HoosierPal said: Is he with their NextPro team or the Whitecaps ? The 2nd team, although he trained with the first team in preseason. MLS Next Pro preseason is still ongoing for that league. Simon has had some options. But as we have discussed movement can be fluid back and forth for some players between the first and second teams. Isaiah Parker for example was a roster player for FC Dallas in their first game but didn’t play. Then he started the following week (along with Chase Niece) with their MLS Next Pro Team. Part of player development is getting a chance to play as opposed to sitting and watching, and, balancing that out.

SLU led 2-0 but couldn’t hold the lead. Ross started at center back between Moore and Warrington, as Floriani sat out the game with a broken nose that he picked up against Ohio State. Entertaining game, that could have gone either way. Klein almost won it late. Former Billiken AJ Palazzolo had a goal and a great assist in the final minute for the winner for stlCITY2. courtside
SLU had a 0-0 draw at Tulsa (good team) today. The teams also practiced PK’s as well. (4-3 Tulsa) Former Billikens, Becher, Niece, Parker, Murana, Vaughn, all started for their MLS Next Pro teams as they began their regular season. Schulte and Keller have been with their first teams. Palazzolo was a 72nd minute sub for stlCITY2 who defeated Rochester 2-0 in front of a capacity crowd at SLU this weekend. SLUBALLS
Great atmosphere last night at WWT for SLU vs Indy. Not going to get into a ton of details here but it was a fun game to watch. Good balance of attacking and possession by both teams. SLU got on the board early before Indy answered back. No surprise that Klein provided the assist on our opening goal. SLU got a PK for second goal as Klein was shoved from behind as we was crashing the goal. Klein stepped up and hit it in. Indy again came right back....centerback hit a beautiful diagonal to his outside back/winger who went 1 on 1, hit a shot SLU's goalie did well to dive and save, but Indy player followed it up for the tying goal. Plenty of chances for SLU in final minutes of game but they went to PKs where Indy won. Forgot this but there was a scary moment about 10 minutes in where the Indy starting goalie was likely knocked out after a scrum in the box. He was motionless and down for a good amount of time. Ambulance called to check on him but luckily he was able to sit up and walk off to get checked.

SLU hit the cross bar on the first one and all others were makes for both teams.

Co-league champion ASUN 2021. He also was a part of the 2019 Sun Belt League Champion team, and 2018 MVC League Champion team. Suarez started 60 games at Central Arkansas. He scored 20 goals in his career from his center back position. (in a variety of ways) Named team captain for Senior season. (Alberto started and played 74 minutes in the 2-1 loss to SLU his Freshman year.) Strong technically, leader out of the back, versatile passer and scorer. Very good on set pieces and aerially. Started on the back line for the 2021 USL League 2 U23 Champion, Des Moines. (75 teams) Captain at El Olivar Spanish youth team. courtside
New NCAA Soccer rule changes: https://www.ncaa.org/news/2022/4/20/media-center-prop-approves-changes-to-soccer-overtime-rules.aspx Most notably is the elimination of the golden goal in extra time. It was very popular with some players and coaches. Also, no more extra time in regular season games. It seems contradictory to say let’s eliminate regular season overtime for player load management. But then say no more playoff golden goal and instead play out full extra time periods.

But it is fair to say opinions were mixed. Substitution rule changes did not pass/move forward, as many D2 and D3 schools objected to it.
