SLU 4 Duke 3.

Are you not entertained? Offense. Depth. Difference makers.

4-4-2 both teams. Several similarities, a few differences too.

John Kerr sat Thor Ulfarsson the first twenty minutes for discipline reasons, and it helped allow SLU to settle into the game, and, get on the board. Buendia sending one into the box for Leeth. Turn and score.

SLU had some success with the middle of Duke’s backline. SLU could have added one, missed a nice wide open double header for Niece on the 5.

Duke had a little more energy early in the 2nd which began when Ulfarsson entered the game. A little quicker in transition. Early equalizer. Some nice work from Amir Daley on the right wing. He had a nice game. Draws defenders, connects with ACC Midfielder of the Year, Peter Stroud, who serves it back post for Thor. It was a nice play they have done before where Thor fakes the run and stays where he is. He’s good. 15 goals with a rugged schedule. He got his goal. But SLU was able to limit him to that, and, was able to neutralize Stroud in the middle.

4 minutes later Schulte throws a far outlet for Parker upfield, who meets the defender for the 50/50 ball and Parker fortunate to send it perfectly deep down the left flank for Becher, who quickly served to Klein making a run down the middle for 2-1 SLU.

6 minutes later Seth Anderson heads a clear to an open Alex Shterenberg in the middle, who headed it 1v1 for Becher who changes direction slots it for 3-1 SLU.

10 minutes later. This was where SLU was in good shape. And it appeared perhaps SLU would control the game and tack on for 4-1, 4-2. But a few mistakes made things interesting. Shak Mohammed worked the right corner 2v2, and his cross was deflected by Chandler Vaughn (busy night for Chandler) to Niece who tried to flick the ball on wide to the other side. He was alone and didn’t settle. The ball goes far post and Nick Pariano (very nice game as well, great on set pieces) made a nice run to finish. Mujeeb Murana was caught ball watching a little there as Keller was defending the middle 1v1. Even Schulte perhaps had an opportunity. Several players, unlucky, a mistake moment. 3-2

4 minutes later. A Wilkinson bump from behind brought a free kick from about 20 yards. Pariano to Jai Bean. Bean was able to get goal side of AJ. I think AJ would want that one back 3-3.

2 minutes later, Becher working the right flank defensively, forces a turnover to Klein who makes a run into the box to draw the corner. End swinger for Parker to Becher near post flick on, diving save but right off of the defender’s leg and in. 4-3 SLU.

Overall, a well earned win, a team performance for SLU, against a top level team. There were a few set piece and end line defending things to clean up. (Sometimes SLU was playing man with 4 on set pieces.) SLU created chances, forced turnovers, excelled in transition, finished efficiently. Check some boxes.

It was a fun game against a good attacking team. It was nice to see a few SLU and Duke Soccer alums at the game.

NCAA Quarterfinals: Washington, #2 National Seed, is another big test, long trip, and challenging place to play. It will be chilly again, with possible/likely drizzle. U Dub has plenty of All Americans and great players in a variety of positions. Great opportunity for SLU. Should be fun. One more win, and it would be a return trip to the Triangle for SLU. Men’s College Cup Final Four is in Cary, NC.

Dukes 3rd goal was a joke. The dive was just to obvious to miss. Literally he jumped forward after slight contact and went down. At first I was wondering what Lebron was doing in the game.

20 minutes lol. That’s making a statement. I wonder if they spanked him also

Courtside...lived in Seattle area 1996-2000. That was 4 very wet years of my life. Enjoy FL a whole lot more. Hope the Bills have enough to beat the U Dub at their place. Been awhile since the Bills were in the Final Four. Back in my years at SLU it was pretty much expected that the Bills would contend or win the soccer championship. Let's Go Bills!!!

Beautiful day in Durham.  Several SLU fans on flight out this morning.  Should have a great contingent.  Go Bills!

Great picture!  I saw the others from your better half on FB.  It’s awesome you were able to take your son to the game.  👍👍

Hopefully, they can have the game running on the screens in the concourse and, maybe, on of the jumbo screens in the arena.

People have to stop suggesting they show the game on the video boards. You absolutely cannot take away from the in game experience for those paying to see the Men’s basketball game.

Don't think it takes away to put it on one screen.  Anyone interested in just the basketball game has only to keep their eyes on the court.  Anyone who wants to be seeing both can glance up at the one screen with the soccer game.

This is another bad take. It’s a warm and fuzzy thought, but it’s not practical.
