The Boys half of Quincy Notre Dame High School was Christian Brothers High School from 1959-1970.

Quincy University is the Franciscan college that used to be known as Quincy College, a former Soccer power at the NAIA level with most of its players then coming from St. Louis.  QU now plays in NCAA Division 2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, same conference as UMSL and McKendree.

thanks

Yep. Quincy is a big time soccer program (M&W) for d2. Good baseball school - pretty at everything else. Been out of the GLVC game for a couple years now though

Saturday's game is huge.  A win on the road at VCU would really solidify the team's profile.  VCU is the only opponent on the schedule this year currently in the RPI top 25.  The RPI is still supposed to play a big role in the seeding and selection of the men's soccer tournament.  SLU's current RPI is 31 with a SOS of 116.  VCU is 23 with a SOS of 56.

It would also help to find a make-up date for Central Arkansas (RPI 17).

There were some early good results for the conference, like Davidson beating High Point to start the year, but some of those other teams that got some votes in the poll have since come back down to earth. Fordham was even ranked in the first Top Drawer Soccer poll but had two blowout results against ranked teams to start the year. Rhode Island is probably the third best team in the league, and that's the last regular season game. That would be a quality win, too (45 RPI). It would be nice for the NCAA to switch over to this year's RPI rankings, by the way.

SLU 3 St. Joe’s 2 2OT

Chandler Vaughn didn’t enter the game to test out his shoulder injury until late first half. He was good to go, finished the game and scores the game winner pushing up from left wing back, finishing a Simon Becher 1v1 service in the box.

Daniel Moore who started in place of Vaughn (Moore gad a nice game) started SLU’s first goal forcing a turnover at midfield. Buendia sends a good target pass to Shterneberg for flick to Klein in the corner for the individual effort goal for Klein. 1-0

Multiple close chances for SLU after that either wide or shots blocked in the box off of nice build up from Murana. The flip side that were a couple of St. Joe’s left side counters to force corners. St. Joe’s a very big, tall team. They were able to score to make it 1-1 on a double header clear from SLU to top of box off of a corner. 1-1 Midway first half. This has happened a few times this season.

SLU forced some middle of the field turnovers. Late first half corners for SLU pressuring. 35th minute. Parker corner swinger, headed out to Chase Niece, from PK spot and he buries it. 2-1 SLU.

2nd half

Highlight reel save to keep it 2-1 by SLU’s Patrick Schulte in 50th minute on a top corner rocket, full extension left hand.

71st minute, 2-2. Nice St. Joe’s build up through the middle flicked wide for service. 2nd runner with flick in far post. Using size as a screen near post. SLU defended behind instead of fronting either the first or 2nd runner.

St. Joe’s is not a team that is going to sit back and play 8 behind the ball and hope for a 1-0 game. They were essentially a 3-5-2 often in the game. Dangerous on set pieces deep in opponent’s end. And this opens up the game more which is something SLU likes.

SLU essentially 4-4-2 with 2 forwards high, wings tighter inside. Strong game from Buendia in the middle for SLU. Wilkinson also had a strong game  at two positions. SLU moved Palazzolo up higher later in game and OT’s as well as Komodi up with Klein and Becher. Wilkinson was playing both a wing and d mid spot. Strong midfield play for SLU.

80th minute service to Klein in the box header to Becher deflected by keeper off of the cross bar. Murana with a near miss moments earlier. Wilkinson to Komodi and  big save in alone late in regulation. Becher to Klein rocket and a diving save with seconds left to go to OT. SLU was playing 3 forwards (Komodi who played well) late and added lots of pressure in the final 20 minutes and OT.

2OT

101st minute, Murana makes a physical fast diagonal run on the right side, give and go with Becher, back to Becher 1v1 wide, passes low into the box where chandler Vaughn made his run from left wing back. 3-2 Final.

Is the VCU game being streamed anywhere (ESPN+?)?

SLU up 1-0 at VCU.  Free kick in 30th minute about 30 yards out on left. Klein whipped on to back post , Becher headed in.

Game is pretty even this far.  No one really threatening hard or dominating.  VCU playing similar to SLU.  Even match this far.

Schulte with great save off dangerous header in box.

2 more in second half after giving up 1 way too early after kickoff.  SLU has been efficient with their chances tonight.   Klein got in 1v1 from long ball, dished wide, got it back and hit it in off VCU player.  Komodi buried a sweet ball after Becher played him out wide which Komodi did well to hit to far post from an angle.

15 to go.

Celio Pompeu. He is a nice player on left wing for VCU. He created the first half chance 1v1 with Murana for service and point blank Schulte save. He kept working Shterenberg 1v1 until getting off that shot through a screen for a goal. He also hit the cross bar from distance. He didn’t get a lot of support or discipline from his teammates tonight.

SLU 2-0 off free kick from right about 35 yd out.  Came after stupid push from behind by VCU.  Ball just got through big mass of players and in. Not sure who took it or if anyone touched it through.

Komodii free kick to Murana near post header (2nd one). Klein to Becher was the first one, same play, different side.

Goal and assist each for Klein, Becher, and Komodi. Buendia had another nice game in the midfield, winning balls, distributing balls, defending, transition offense, trail support.

Long ball from Keller to Becher with great long flick on for Klein’s run, lay off to Parker who takes shot save rebound Klein for goal.

Guy on VCU just blasted Anderson on sideline.  Got a yellow.  Looks to be a hothead.  Screaming at refs.

So many silly, undisciplined fouls in their own third for VCU out of frustration. It cost them multiple  times. Uncharacteristic of a Dave Giffard (St. Louis guy) coached team.
