Dunking - Strickland

One thing this board can agree on is that we all love dunking. Bold prediction - when it is all said and done, I think Strickland will have the best dunk in program history and may leave as the best dunker in program history. It's been only three games in, so this isn't based on much, other than looking at a little video and hearing some reports. On opening night, if he had gotten that one dunk to go down it would have instantly been on of the greatest in program history. He also had a pretty nice alley up last game as well. You can tell this kid is hunting dunks any time he gets a chance. So explosive, quick and high off the floor. And we have never had a team with this many good dunkers - French, Jacobs and Hargrove, but I think Strickland will be the best of the bunch.

I tend to agree, although, TJH and Strickland have agreed that THJ is the better dunker.  While they both will have hours of highlights, I think Strickland is one of those players who will finish a play dunking at a high rate ie slash, low post, put backs

What is he best dunk in Billiken history? Some initial thoughts from me (though I won't remember pre-Soderberg ones:

Tommie Liddell vs. GW (2006😞https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6il_3Ji4Hk

Danny Brown @ St. Joes (2007): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXmQkAbfwbs

Hasahn French vs. St. Joes (2020)

Demarius Jacobs vs. LaSalle (2020)

Terrence Hargove vs. VCU (2020)

I'm sure I'm missing some good ones.

The only correct answer is Mo Jeffers vs St Bona.

It was an explosive dunk on a team the wasn't known for it , in front of a crowd that was not expecting or ready for it.  I don't know what those spectators were thinking when the Bills threw that first forward pass in football but I know how they felt.....

Excellent list. I’d also like to throw in Hargrove’s alley-pop from Yuri in the Bonnies game last year. I was at the game, kind of sitting on the far side of the court. We obviously had to win to get 4th place and the double-bye (Mega Bowl), and started off hot. I saw Yuri throw it up and it was like it happened in slo-mo, I was thinking “Oh my God, he threw it too high! He’s never going to get to it! We can’t afford silly turnovers like that tonight!” And then TJ comes out of nowhere and flushes it and I jumped out of my seat. That’s 1 of those plays that you see in person and remember for the rest of your life.

I remember that one being borderline Vince Carter on Frederic Weis, just with the Bonnies player being shorter than Weis. I really wish there was video of that somewhere online, but I heard sometime not too long ago that no one knew of it existing.

How did Tommie not get T'd up for that?  He definitely would have if that happened today, right?

In terms of the entire play, IIRC Perkins had a nice dunk off an incredible Yuri Collins assist in transition last season.  The dunk wasn't anything spectacular by itself, but the entire play was beautiful.

Most unexpected dunk has to be Chris Sloan dunking on Channing Frye, right?  I love Sloan's story from THTRB podcast about being in the top 10 1 week for dunking on Frye and then again the next week for being dunked on by somebody.

Maurice Jeffers jumped over a st bonnie kid.

I feel like that Liddell dunk gets over-rated just because we didn't have that many of them during that era. I'm not suggesting it's bad, there is a posterizing element to it, but I feel like Has and Hargrove routinely have comparable or better dunks.

I think he'd be angrier over the one he jammed into the back of the rim. there were better shots than that one.

nah.... shot selection was fine.... sometimes you gotta let em know you're a raw dawg

I remember entire seasons where it seemed like no Bill dunked lol.

Not that long ago either! And there were usually a max of 3 players who would dunk in a season. The deadball era of Billiken dunking

While maybe not on the 'most impressive list', I'd argue 'most important' dunk would be Sloans steal and throwdown late in the Louisville game.

Moe Jeffers against St B’s in 2001 I think. Dr J quality. Best I’ve seen. Although, Jacobs reverse dunk on the baseline v SIUE was pretty sweet.

Not to be knit-picky but I don't think Jacobs was a reverse dunk, just like a double clutch dunk.  I think it was very similar to his one against Lasalle last year, regardless still very pretty.
