HoosierPal
Starting a new thread with the new season. Coach was on KMOX this morning. 1) They didn't 'heavily scout' LSU. They focused on principles. 2) A significant difference this year, due to COVID, is that the team isn't spending off court time together. He called this significant. 3) French is 'Any day now'. Thatch is out another 5 to 6 days. No significant injuries from yesterday. 4) He is looking to get a game before Arkansas Pine Bluff, scheduled for next Saturday. Nothing yet, but they are trying. Said games are popping up in 24 hour windows.

HoosierPal
Mr. Gibson Jimerson was on the Press Box today. Showed a lot of love for Yuri Collins who is the best point guard he has ever played with. He tells Yuri "I'm not going to run in for a layup". He has put a lot of work on putting the ball on the floor. He said he just wants to get to his spot. He won't go inside very much, but knows his spots. Jimerson was a Heat fan due to Tyler Hero an Duncan Robinson. Watched a lot of tape on those two on how they get their shots. At the end of HS, Jimerson was 6'5", 195 lb. Now still 6'5", 205 lb. Thinks he will gain another 5 to 10 pounds. Team gets every practice tape sent to them in the evening. He will watch every game tape 2 or 3 times. He likes playing with Perkins, says their games open up the floor for each other. Goodwin, et. al, were called out by Ford in early practice to get on Jimerson more. He has a battle every day in practice getting through screens. This has/will help him in games. He misses the locker room as that is where the team got together for Team Time. Ford beat Gibson last season in a FT contest. "That pissed me off." Talked about Coach, 'I love his temper'. He has a very short memory. He will get on you but moves on quickly. Frank talked about this being a prep year for Gibson. Academically, Gibson thinks he can graduate early. (Says Fred is doing the same thing, taking summer courses.) He is majoring in International Business and sees where that could help him in playing pro overseas. Certainly has his eye on Hero and Robinson, shooters who are in the NBA. IMO next to Perkins, Jimerson is the most likely guy to get NBA playing time on the roster. NBA teams always want shooters. Duncan Robinson is a great example, but also Joe Harris who just got paid by the Nets. Jimerson is similar size to those guys. He can't attend games, just like everyone else. $27 million won't buy you a ticket. https://590thefan.com/radio-shows/press-box/ Adman likes this

HoosierPal
Stu and BenFred BillikenBeat Podcast https://www.stltoday.com/sports/college/slu/billikens-beat-slu-gets-healthier-while-hunting-for-another-big-non-conference-game/video_43bc8d30-a3c8-586c-b642-936e2337e004.html Nothing new, but like the coverage. French turned 100% lose by Coach. Thatch looked fine in a full practice, no limping or favoring his knee. On adding a top team to the schedule, Coach said 'things can be worked out' on the current schedule if something comes up. This will become a weekly podcast from these two. HoosierPal
Coach was on 550 last night. https://soundcloud.com/550ktrs/big-sports-show-travis-ford-12-3 He believes the 'eye test' will be very important come NCAA Selection Sunday. He believes there is too much churn in schedules to use the classic metrics of RPI or NET. He acknowledged that the National Press talking a lot about the Bills could be important on the 'eye test'. "In year's past we couldn't have put 85 against LSU." LSU went to a 5 out offense, all of whom can talk you off the dribble. Would have been a perfect matchup for French, cause he can guard in that situation. Coach highly complementary of Linssen and Bell who did what they could, did what they were supposed to, and let the rest of the team shine. Jimerson lost some baby fat when he was out rehabbing. He came back with his body in much better shape this season. BenFred "LSU makes a shot: chest bumps, screaming. Perkins hits a shot, acts like he just sank a gimmie putt and walks back to the defensive end." Coach says Perkins is very reserved, doesn't like the limelight. Coach had to tell Perkins to take more shot, force shots, be aggressive. " If I hadn't talked to him he would be comfortable talking 5, 6 shots a game." Jacobs has handled not starting very well. He may play more minutes off the bench then he did last season. Jacobs understands he is an important piece of the team and why other players are starting instead of him. There have been several games besides Notre Dame that we have reached out for, but they didn't happened. We are getting calls from teams wanting to set up games. We are looking to add a game. You have to be flexible. Wants a top ten team game if we can bet it. VeniceMenace likes this
HoosierPal
Coach was on KMOX this morning. He said that during their walk thru yesterday morning, they received a call from Evansville (they had not left yet) that one of their players had COVID symptoms and needed testing. So per protocol they could not come. At the time of that call it was uncertain if Eville could come over today and play. As of 11 am, they had not contacted SLU. Coach said they reached out to a lot of schools seeing if they could play today, mentioning Kansas, Loyola, SIU, and Bradley. Obviously nothing was scheduled for today. He said they are still looking but he didn’t comment any more. VeniceMenace likes this

I think the hardest thing about our scheduling is that Ford and the admin have done such a good job of scheduling during his time at SLU. So, none of this makes sense. Maybe we could get someone at the post to do a story on it, so at least we could point to it come selection time.

Not when the Loyola already has a game scheduled for the 18th. Every team Ford mentioned already has a game scheduled for the 17th or the 18th. But sure Bill Self is going to reschedule Texas Tech on the 17th or agree to fly into St. Louis on day and half notice on the 14th. The 14th shouldn’t have been included in any offer SLU sent out because since the game would have to be played in St. Louis because the Billikens have to play here on the 15th it would mean an opponent would have to arrange travel for their team in less than 36 hours. Pretty much impossible right now. If the Billikens were serious about scheduling anyone, anywhere they would have included the December 26th-28th in the dates for games and not asked for DM replies. But hey it served it purpose, it took the heat off the program for now.

Now I doubt if he asked Self to bus over last night, but I did get the impression he asked Loyola, Bradley and SIUC to play today. They already were playing at 1 today against UIC. Serious question, is it even possible for a team to travel on such short notice with the current COVID protocols? Do teams need a bus driver with a negative COVID result? What about everyone else involved in getting the team, staff and equipment to a location?
