In the comments, it is mentioned several times that the Illini are already using the saliva tests. I don’t know much about them. Just thought I’d post Rothstein’s tweet.

I’ve been taking the saliva test twice weekly for the past month and I think it’s great. Easy to administer (hardest part is not eating, drinking, or brushing teeth 30 minutes before test) and quick results (4-48 hours). Not sure on the accuracy numbers though.  I think U of I is doing an amazing job with students returning. All students, faculty and staff have to get tested twice a week, an app to track testing and contact tracing through geo-location, and can’t enter campus buildings or classes if you haven’t taken your required tests.

Thanks for the insight. I recently got the swab to the back of your brainstem test because a coworker tested positive (I was luckily negative), and got my results back in under 72 hours, which isn’t bad, but the saliva test being accurate would obviously help things.

Russell added to Lorentsson and Jimmmerson, have the makings of a very impressive group of freshmen outside shooters. They may be the top 3 outside shooters on the team. High school shooting doesn't always translate to Div 1, but Gibson is already a proven commodity and the best 3 point shooter on the team. I don't mean to overlook Strickland,  he may be a good outside shooter, but these other 3 could be exceptional. Lorentsson and Russell have to do more than shoot well to get playing time, but there seems to be enough potential here for something special.

The Chair of the D1 Football Oversight committee is planning to push for all fall sport athletes to receive an additional year of eligibility. This would apply if they opt-out, play some games, or even play a full season in the spring.

Can only hope the same can happen for winter sports.

The Season Ticket Invoice is now out. Does not look like an increase from last year.

Can we roll this back into the original 2020-21 season?  I like seeing the participation level for the season. I agree it went into the Covid weeds and it could again.  Hopefully we can stay on track, discussing the development of the team through the pre season.

Agree. I’m sick of the Virus.

The Big East is reportedly a bubble system for its conference season, using Omaha as the location (probably because it's the least expensive place to do it for the Big East). Some media outlets were reporting this late last week and over the weekend I heard through some Xavier people that it is a legitimate conversation and not just rumored speculation. I wonder if the A10 is having any conversations along these lines.

There are also proposals like this floating out there for the non-conference season. To me, it seems to create a second conference schedule, more or less, and you still have a larger issue of comparability for NCAA Tournament selection.

Because Omaha’s the least expensive place. I guess if the A10 follows suit then Olean would be the cheapest place to bubble. Oh, the inhumanity of it all!

I am positive Disney has already approached the NCAA about using the exempt tournaments they control to create some kind of bubble non-conference schedule at Disney World.  ESPN is in desperate need for some kind of programming in November where ratings are used to set advertising rates.

-would surprise me if they are as A10 money can't compete with  BEast money, but would be a good surprise if they are

Actually, to get away from the expensive East Coast locations to a city with ample courts, hotels and restaurants, i nominate St. Louis.  Two courts could be set up in the Convention Center, one in the Dome and one in the attached convention center area.  Plenty of close hotel rooms and restaurants and the St. Louis Sports Commission is more than capable of 1) putting together professional bid packages for major sports events and 2) carrying out big time NCAA events.  If the A 10 has any discussion of a Conference Bubble, I hope Chris May gets in touch with Frank Vivereto (sp?) at the Commission, immediately.

Except in Olean there's almost nowhere to stay (or at least there are a few, but they're relatively small), and I'm not sure how smart it is to put 14 college teams in the casino hotel 20 minutes away.

I bet Dayton would be the easiest place for the A10 to do it.

I should have used the dreaded blue font for my post.
Actually, Bauman’s suggestion sounds pretty good.

Omaha probably has the hotel's to do a bubble.

How are AAU events being held right now?  I assume there isn’t nearly the level of Covid testing there that occurs in professional leagues. How is it deemed safe for them to play right now, but colleges are canceling sports until January?

-this is interesting and would be good to get an official response

1. How are AAU events being held right now? 2. I assume there isn’t nearly the level of Covid testing there that occurs in professional leagues. 3. How is it deemed safe for them to play right now, but colleges are canceling sports until January?

1. Because these events are being held by dozens of independent organizations that aren't affiliated with larger companies/organizations. Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour all cancelled their circuits for the year. But there's nothing stopping a local AAU organization (usually made up of between one and a few people) from holding events except for state/local/county ordinances. In places where such gatherings aren't prohibited, they're happening. I'm sure each event has a different invitation process and then teams and players can opt in or out.

2. You would be correct. I don't think there's any testing. I've seen photos where players and coaches are wearing masks while not playing, and I'm guessing there are some basic guidelines about teams not clustering with other teams, and maybe some other basic recommendations.

3. It isn't being deemed safe. They're just going ahead with events and hoping for the best, and there's no governing body to prevent them from doing so.

There's no official to give a response. There's no official oversight of these things. If there's nothing currently preventing me in my state/city/county, I could organize a tournament and give it a name and logo and find a site and start inviting teams and get the word out to independent scouts.

The other consideration is the NCAA recruiting calendar. I don't think college coaches can currently attend in person, but I'm wondering if some of these events are offering streaming links. Not sure what the rule is around that, but events are happening and new offers are going out every day.

The other kind of event happening is an open practice. AAU teams are having their own events - open practices, intrasquad scrimmages, and the like. As described in the previously shared link about Nesbitt:

"The entire Bradley Beal Elite program came together to compete against one another as their namesake looked on at the Bradley Beal Elite Challenge this weekend.

Who stood out? Who put themselves on the map? Read more about the day of action in St. Louis and about a few of this week's upcoming decisions in this week's edition of the Starting Five.

The Bradley Beal Elite Challenge did not disappoint this weekend. The event featured members of the organizations 15, 16 and 17U teams all mixed together into four teams who competed for internal bragging rights."

No actual Billiken Fan would consider staying anywhere else

if they extend this to the winter season is there a chance we see two more years of Goodwin/French/Perkins (assuming they don’t leave for pro leagues)?

My question is: are they going to increase the number of scholarships a school can offer? They have to, right? Or future recruits would be F’ed. I’m really interested in the logistics of these plans.

Same here. I hate to say it but I feel like they shouldn’t give the players eligibility if there isn’t a season. It will really suck but you can’t let this hurt the class of 2021,22,etc
