2020 Spring Signing Day and the A10

Today marks the beginning of the Spring Signing period for NCAA basketball.  SLU awaits Andre Lorentsson's LOI today per Stu.  This will leave the Bills with that one remaining scholarship open with KC Hankton's transfer.  I am assuming Fred Thatch returns as well and that Jordan Goodwin and Hasahn French return after their NBA evaluations are complete. If that is the case, I'd like to see us get Dusdan Mahorcic with that last scholarship.  Elsewhere around the A10:

Davidson (one spot open):  Seniors Grady, Collins, Bates Jones; Juniors Czerpowicz, Frampton, Boachie-Yiadom, and Brajkovic; Sophomores Mike Jones, Lee, and kristenson, and Freshmen PG Emory Lanier, SG Grant Huffman and PF Sam Mennenga.  Analysis:  The final spot coudl go to KiShawn Pritchett if he gets a sixth year.  Frampton, while still listed on scholarship, is questionable to beback.  Mennenga is a 6'9" small forward from New Zealnad who reminds some of graduated Davidson SF Peyton Aldridge.

Dayton (three spots open):  Seniors Watson, Crutcher (expected return), Chatman and Tshimanga; Junior Cohill; Sophomore redshirts SF Zimife Nowkeji and PF Moulaye Sissoko with Freshmen PG Lukas Frazier, SG Koby Brea, and SF RJ Blakney.  Analysis:  Dayhton appearsto be a guard-oriented team next year as four of the five experienced players are all in the backcourt.  Grant will rely heavily on the the two redshirts for front line depth, which is weak even with Tshimanga.  Due to the backcourt depth, SG Brea is a strong candidate for redshirting.  Unless Dayton gets a big grad transfer or two, the front court is unknown.

Duquesne (Two spots OVER scholarship limits): Dambrot is at it again, signing more people right now then he has room for.  Seniors Dunn-Martin, Hughes and Weathers; Juniors Carry, Norman Jr., Rotroff and redshirt Amari Kelly; Sophomores Austin and redshirt C James Ellis; and Freshmen PG Michael Bekelja, PG Tyson Acuff, SG Jett Roesing, SFs Toby Okani and Chad Baker and PF Andre Harris.  Acuff and Roesing signed LOIs inthe fall, the other three are verbals right now.  Also, Sophomore Ellis is a redshirt but was a walk-on; does he give his scholarship back to ease the oversigning issue?

Fordham (One spot):  Seniors Colon, Raut and Ohams (who was on injury redshrt); Juniors Perry, Cobb, Eysi and Skoric; Sophomores Rose, Austin, Cohn and Soriano; and Freshman PG Julian Dozier Jr.  Dozier is a verbal committment right now.  Analysis:  it's Fordham but Cobb, Ohams, Eysi and Soriano did show some promise.

Mason (One open spot):  Seniors Greene, Wilson, Calixte and redshirt PG Tempchin; Juniors Hartwell and Miller; Sophomores Johnson, Haidara and Oduro; and Freshmen PG Tyler Kolek, PG Ronald Polite, and PF Malik Henry.  Analysis: Justin Kier remains in the transfer portal but is damaged goods.  Goanar Mar is also leaving.  This team couldn't score last year and faces another tough year unless one of the two freshmen points is out of this world.

Geedubya (One spot OVER limits):  Seniors Jack, Langrarica and Stallings; Juniors Harris, Lindo and Seymour; Sophomres Nelson Jr., Battle, Paar, Dean and Bishop; Freshmen SG Lincoln Ball, SG Tyler Brelsford and PF Noel Brown.  Lindo is a Maryland transfer and will have to sit out a year if that holds.  Ditto Bishop from LSU.  Stallings is a walk-on with a scholarship now; does he give that back?  Analysis:  Young but improving.  Likely a year away IF Lindo and Bishop achieve their press clippings.

La Salle (One open spot):  Seniors Beatty, Spencer and redshirt Moore; Juniors Kimbrough and Clark; Sophomores Hikim, Kenney, Ray and Stone; Freshmen PG Jhamir Brickus,  SG Anwar Gill and C Tegra Izay.  Only Gill has submitted a LOI, the others are verbals.  Analysis:  Moore is a former four-star recruit transferring back home from Indiana.  There is some senior leadership here in Beatty and Spencer and Hikim was a decent PG.  This team might surprise if it gets over the hump of its losing ways.  This is Ashley Howard's team now.

Umass (no open slots):  Seniors Pierre and GT Gasperini; Junior Walker; Sophomores Fernandez, Buggs III, Kolt Mitchell, Santos, Weeks, and Tre Mitchell; Freshmen SG Javohn Garcia,  SF Cairo McCrory, SF Ronnie DeGray III, and PF Deondre Dominguez.  Analysis:  This would appear to be the A10 sleeper next year and Gasperini will add maturity.  Can Mat McCall coach?  he can recruit and even with a full roster, he still has 15 open offer out there to the current recruiting class.

Rhode isalnd (two open spots (I think)):  Seniors Russell (expected back), Carter-Sheppard, redshirt DeVale Johnson, and Walker; Juniors Harris and martin, Sophomores Makhi Mitchell, and Makhel Mitchell; Freshmen PG Elijah Wood, PG Trey Berry and SG Ishmael Leggett.  Analysis:  Hard to figure out what is happening to Cox's program.  Unless overruled, Martin and the Mitchell twins are sitting out a transfer year.  Short of Fatts, Harris and Walker, no one played last year that returns this year.  Even if Toppin and Long and Tate had not transferred, the back court would be Fatts and fatts only.  Still is although Woods is a four star recruit.

Richmond (one spot open):  Seniors Francis, Gilyard, Golden, Cayo and Sherrod; Juniors redshirt Crabtree, Gustavson, Grace and Koureissi; Sophomore Burton; and Freshmen PG Wilson and C Andre Weir. Analysis:  This will be the likely pcik for A10 champs.  They return everyone fromtheir starting five but one injury would hurt; a second injury might devastate.  Richmond's time appears to be NOW.

St. Joeseph's (One opening):  Seniors Daly (expected to rerturn), redshirt Funk, and Longpre; Juniors Douglas and redshirt Foster; Sophomores Bishop, Brown, Moore, redshirt Forrest and redshirt Jansson; Freshmen SFs Jadrian Tracey and Jordan Hall.  Hall is LOI; Tracey a verbal.  Analysis:  This could be a Philly-tough team.  Will Foster, the transfer from Gonzaga and former 4-star recruit, be the one  true PG on the roster and drive the engine?  Bishop is a mid-year transfer from Xavier; Forrest is a transfer from Columbia.  Everyone on the roster appears to be 6'5" or taller (Foster is 6'3") so matchup problems could exist.

St. Bonaventure (One open spot):  Senior redshirt Jalen Adaway; Juniors Lofton, Welch, Osunniyi, English, Okoli, Creel and Shaw; Sophomores Vasquez, Winston and Carpenter; Freshman PF Quentin Metcalf.  Analysis:  The biggest additions are JUCOs Creel and Shaw who are both verbals right now.  But Schmidt does still have 12 open offers out there.  Does another year of age improve what was an offensively-challenged team last year?  Shaw, at 6'10", when combined with Osunniyi, could make for an imposing front line.  But who scores?

VCU (One open spot):  Seniors Santos-Silva (expected back) and Douglas; Juniors Curry and Williams; Sophomores Hyland, Clark, McAllister, and Ward; Freshmen PG Ace Baldwin, SG Josh Banks, SF Jamir Watkins, and PF Mikeal Brown-Jones.  Analysis:  I think VCU will still come at you in waves.  There is not a knock-down shooter on the roster although all are athletic.  VCU's front line is individually limited but imposing:  Santos-Silva does all the dirty work, Douglas is a rim protector, Ward has a sky-high ceiling and Brown-Jones is the highest rated recruit at 3.5 stars standing 6'8".

Contenders (besides us with Goodwin and French):  Umass, Richmond and VCU.

Second tier Davidson, Dayton, Duquesne, and the Bonnies.

Middle of pack (us without Goodwin and French):  La Salle and St. Joes.

PIG Players: Fordham, Mason, Rhode Island and Geedubya.

with the other scholarship i want a immediate able to contribute big to defend and rebound when french gets in foul trouble.  if not, then fill it with the best available graduate transfer so we can try again with that scholarship next year.  i do not want another project of any sort.   and we dont need guards for next year.  the following season we have to replace perkins and goodwin.   big time impact opportunity to offer and bring in a difference maker.

Quick question, didn't this get pushed back or am I mixing this up with something else?

We already have them.  Jimerson, Goodwin, and French.  And Fred is our 'Tony'...minus the point shavings.

Today is still the first day to sign. The last day has been pushed back from May 20 to August 1.

In-person recruiting is still suspended until May 31 (subject to additional changes).

This, coupled with Linsson's signing, makes us as complete a team as possible with the caveat Goodwin and French return.  But as kshoe says, we have said that before in April.  And I disagree with the poster who believes Goodwin goes G League.  This roster looks amazing:

1) Yuri, Goodwin, Jacobs

2) Jacobs, Jimerson, Thatch

3) Goodwin, Perkins, Hargrove, Strickland'

4) French, Linsson, Lorentsson

5) Bell, Linsson, Diarra.

Just need answers on Goodwin, French and Thatch.

Competition for playing time will be fierce. Not every body is going to be happy.  Ford will have a tough job managing this but I would have said the same thing last year as we ended the season with a short bench. You never know what will happen.
