VCU needs help and the Bonnies have a great coach.

The Bonnies are geographically challenged.

I wish the best for our local kid.

His cousin Courtney thrived in his two seasons there. As soon as Levi hit the portal, Bonaventure fans were tweeting about it.

I forgot about Courtney.

I would rather play for Schmidt than VCU.

Grant Golden also removed his name from the draft.

Golden, Francis and Sherod all graduated this month from Richmond.  It will be interesting to see if they come back as Graduate Students or skip out as GT.

I’d be surprised. They lose any one of those guys and they’re big season goes kaput. Same fate could befall us if JGood and/or French doesn’t return.

I'm hoping they stay, but nothing would surprise me anymore. Francis already transferred once, into Richmond. Yes, losing any of those (5) you mention changes the landscape of the A10.

It is hard to imagine players jumping from potential Top 25 Teams to another situation, but 21 - 22 year old's think differently than I do.

I may be old school but this wouldn't make any sense to me.  Work your tail off the first 3 years, then for your last year you bail when everything looks promising.  What would be the point?

* que the playing for a premier coach or getting the UK or duke treatment*

A little late for the transfer portal, isn't it?  Given what they got at UR, why leave now?  Can't see that happening.  This is it for Francis and Sherrod in getting five years to play four.  This will be Golden and Gilyard's fourth year as well so they are done.

The portal passed 900 a few days ago. It's been a trickle the past few weeks. It topped out just over 1000 last season - it *might* get there again depending on how timelines are altered this year.

I don't see why any of them would go, though. Richmond is being picked to win the A10 even with people assuming French and Goodwin return. Depending on where you look, they're a potential top-25 preseason team. There aren't many (any?) other places they could go where they'd be poised to have roles of the same size on teams that will be better.

Goodman's list above has them at 13. 13!

He has us at 41

I see where 4 players entered the portal in the past 24 hours.  I don't think the portal ever closes.  And didn't Bartley transfer out of SLU like in August of 2016? I have no idea if he used the portal at that time or just went out on his own.   I'm guessing that there could be some more bumps as colleges announce their intentions for 2020/21 sports and workouts.

I am hoping we show how out of touch some of these pre-season predictors are.  It's hard to understand how guys like Goodman can have them 28 teams higher than us.  We both are returning just about everyone, with us clearly having more depth than URI and seeing that we beat them last year (w/o Jimerson and Thatch)  by 16 on their home court.

An interesting side point to Goodman's ranking---we would be in the top 5 of the Beast.

It is sort of like we never beat them by 16 last season at Richmond. 🤷‍♂️

And Duquesne swept us.  Doesn't mean that Duquesne should be expected to finish ahead of SLU.  Your record against the entire conference is what is more relevant to a ranking discussion.

Richmond won 14 games last year and 2 of their losses came without Blake Francis in the lineup.  Even a conservative prediction would be 16-2 next season.  I wouldn't be surprised if we posted the same record but that wouldn't be my first guess.  I expect a split with Duquesne, a split with Dayton and a close loss on the road to someone who just plays really well that day.

I tend to agree with you here, but also worth noting Richmond only played UD, SLU, Rhody, the Bonnies, and the dukes once.  They didnt play any of the top 5 teams twice.   If i was a betting man, Id guess they would have lost again in the UD or SLU rematch.

For my 2 cents, until rosters are finalized, all this discussion is just great internet fodder.  Maybe discuss tiers right now, but to be upset that one writer puts one team ahead of another, well, okay.  But it is fun to talk about.

Even tiers will be destroyed depending on final rosters.  But we all can agree, with what we think we know today, that Richmond and SLU should be in the top tier.  We all know Richmond has every starter back, plus Crabtree comes off of his transfer sit and they picked up one of Wake Forest's commits.  Duquesne returns every player of import except Steele, plus has a nice incoming class.  So do they make the top tier?  St. Bonnie has everyone pretty much back.  UMass came on strong as the season progressed and has the young core returning.  Dayton, with Crutcher and Watson, won't be an easy W.  Coach McKillop always has a competitive team down in N. Charlotte.

VCU was preseason pick to win the A10 last season.

2019 preseason favorite - VCU, finished 9th

2018 preseason favorite - SLU, finished 6th
