I've seen us win games on shots from guys who weren't playing a ton. Ross Varner hit one against Washington at the buzzer once, and I think he came off the bench to do it. But I'll never forget how I felt when he put that shot up last March. I just went, "Welp, there it is, season over" and then it somehow didn't go in. Everything looked perfect out of his hands. We have seen it before playing at the Bonnies place and I was thinking the same thing when he was wide open no one was even close and it was an oh no oh yes moment. The Crutcher shot was right in front of me this season, oh no the pain.

Reinert310
1) I got to be a ball boy for 1 game during Larry’s season. Throwing up shots at halftime and during commercial breaks on the same hoops Larry Hughes just shot on was like the coolest experience ever for a middle school kid. 2) Watching the A10 Championship last year. I was on vacation down in Florida, visiting my uncle. The Bonnies game was on my Dad’s birthday, my birthday was 2 days before (the 15th), so it was like a birthday present for both of us. 3) The game at Kiel/Savvis/Scottrade/Enterprise when Arizona was #1 in the country. I think it was my freshman year at SLU, maybe sophomore, my whole group of friends went to most games because a girl in our group was on the dance team. We get to the garage just planning on buying tickets and a scalper comes up to us in the garage trying to sell tickets. We told him we only had like $5 (mostly just trying to get him to leave us alone), and he sold the tickets to us for $5 each. They were THIRD ROW! We hit that buzzer beater, but his foot was on the line. I’ll never forget that game til the day I die. 4) The Majerus years, just the whole period. Awesome. 5) (non-basketball memory) I was a freshman when Vedad was playing soccer for SLU. My buddy Bob and I were the only big soccer fans in our group of friends, but we went to a bunch of games. I remember Bob screaming at the refs and the refs screaming back that he didn’t know what he was talking about. Bob screamed back, “you’re full of $h!t, I used to refs kids soccer!” Good times. Sheltiedave
January 1973, vs North Texas State. Harry Rogers played one of his best games ever as a Billiken, going off for close to 40 points, dominating both ends effortlessly. Best play of the game - a NSU guard stepped in front of a high key pass to Harry and was off to the races for a gimmie layup. The guard went up to lay the ball off the backboard, and Harry swooped in, timed it perfectly, and just before it kissed the glass, he pinned it against the glass, grabbed the rebound, and the a great outlet for a break the other way. Cowboy
-not sure I can get to 5, but one I remember is walking into the brand new Chaifetz Arena for the ribbon cutting ceremony and thinking wow, what a great building we have and to this day it is a great venue - Thank You Doc and the other major benefactors that built it, Cheryl Levick for her input on the design and and FrB for getting it done billiken_roy likes this
mdscott24
* The 2019 Brooklyn run * The 1989 NIT Semifinal comeback vs. Luc Longley's New Mexico team. * And here's one from the '82-83 6 win season: An uneventful opponent and one of the six wins, Isaiah Singletary erupts for 36 I believe. If there would have been a 3 point line, he would have had 50 or more. I remember the late Joe May's call on the radio that night.

Spent the whole weekend in Indy watching SLU dominate and getting rip roaring drunk. 4) Kwamain Beats Dayton on Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras games are always the best. 5) SLU Comeback vs NC State. I actually probably hated 90% of this game but the good parts were oh so good. 2 inches away from an event this year being high on the list. moytoy12
KC a few years back was a fun trip. Topped off by @billikenfan05and I getting denied entrance to a casino for being too drunk. The Butler ass whooping at Chaifetz and getting drunk with Rammer afterwards Raboin’s perfect 3 point percentage. Jordair’s volleyball spike Smoking copious amounts of weed and then taking a “F U C K” sign with the UC filled in black to a game against Cincy on ESPN back in the 90’s. moytoy12
Obviously, not a favorite memory and not basketball related, but being at a SLU soccer game where the ref dropped dead was surreal.

That KC party after the game was crazy. We tore down McFaddens like we beat KU. I tried to replicate it this year with mixed results. slufanskip
Mine still goes all the way back to not long after I got to St. Louis. I had probably been to 4-5 Bills games and was listening to them consistently on the radio. My dad (who has since passed) came up from Arlington Tx and I got us tickets to the SIUC game at the Arena 1993, I think. The place was packed with over 17k. My parents were long time Mav's season ticket holders and took frequent trips to Austin to see UT play. It was such an amazing atmosphere and he was truly shocked that little St. Louis U was drawing as many fans as the Mav's and outdrawing big bad UT. Honestly that game was the real beginning of my love of SLU. Plus I went on two of the road trips with the Billiken Club in the 90's. Flew to Memphis once and New Orleans the other. We got there the night before, partied, slept in, went to the game the next night and flew back immediately after. Both those trips were amazing and so much fun. Did any one else go on either of those?

That game at The Arena was against SIUC, 12/30/93, during the '93-'94 season. SLU 100 SIUC 87. I'll never forget the gold covers being removed from the gold upper rafter seats at the north end, literally could not believe my own eyes at what I was seeing. That was the real coming out party of Spoonball. 5. Incident confirmed, except I'm pretty sure that was during Ekker's last season in 1982, on 2/18/82. Louisville 99 @ SLU 69. I remember the then SLU student picking up that chair, acting as if he was going to heave it, and Wiley Brown air balling the free throw. That was also the game we implored Louisville Coach to put Marty Pulliam, who rarely saw action, into the game, and the rest of the Louisville bench cracking up in laughter, while Crum kept the full court press. Bay Area Billiken
#1 SLU beating Memphis in the NCAA in Columbus in '12, including the banked 3 by Kwamain Mitchell. This was right after Mizzou went down to Norfolk State and Lehigh beat Duke. #2 SLU beating Minnesota in OT in Baltimore in the '95 NCAA Tournament, SLU's first NCAA Tournament win since 1957. #3 SLU beating the Bonnies last year in Brooklyn to win the A10 Tournament, the 4th of 4 wins in 4 days. #4 SLU routing Butler at Chaifetz Arena in the '12-'13 season. Surveying the scene, a packed on campus arena, a great SLU Pep Band, I turned to my old SLU roommate, and asked, "Do you believe this?" Answer: "No." The SLU Students stormed the court, a controlled court storming through an opening, the SLU Way. #5 SLU beating UMass in Atlanta in the '98 NCAA Tournament when Freshman Larry Hughes took over the game at crunch time. #6 SLU, using a full court press on the fly and great "free throw defense," rallying from a 16 point deficit to beat NC State 83-80 in OT in Orlando in the '14 NCAA Tournament. #7 The aforementioned game at The Arena vs. SIUC in the '93-'94 season when those yellow covers were removed from the upper gold seats in the rafters on the north end, and SLU destroyed SIUC 100-87. Bizziken
Some of my fondest memories of Billiken basketball don't really involve historically significant games. During my time at SLU in the mid-to-late 2000s there weren't too many memorable moments. But I loved getting schmammered with my dudes and then going to sit courtside in an empty Savvistrade Center where we screamed vile obscenities at the opposing teams and officials. I didn't really realize at the time how truly meaningful those moments were. We only get to experience Billiken fandom as students for a brief time, and in most cases it's gone before we actually realize how special it was. rgbilliken likes this

There were so many SLU fans there, we filled the next door bar and its tent annex, had at least 3 sections full of SLU fans. And SLU almost upset #1 seed Michigan State on Sunday, very similar to '95 in Baltimore, when SLU gave Wake Forest with Tim Duncan all it could handle in Game 2. We all agree, that was still Majerus' team. The way the Bill's just destroyed VCU twice and Butler 3 times, as well as #20 New Mexico on New Year's Eve in the "hole", or whatever NM calls their arena, was unbelievable. R.I.P. Rick Majerus. But the TFord era has a chance to be just as good. I'm confident that when it is all said and done, a memory of the Billikens getting to the Sweet 16 and even beyond will be my greatest Billiken memory.
