I always think of UCLA whenever the subject comes up about replacing a legend and the fan base is content.   The short answer... it's impossible.

It’s difficult to not think of Sam Gilbert when thinking of UCLA basketball. Gilbert was their booster during all 10 of Wooden’s titles.

Players Gilbert was involved with were Willie Naulls, Lew Alcindor, Lucious Allen, Bill Walton, Henry Bibby, Sidney Wicks, Swen Nater, and many more. Clothes, cars, cash, airline tickets, abortions for girlfriends, etc....all of which led to both UCLA’s probation in 1981 and coincided with Gilbert’s later indictment on money laundering and racketeering charges at the time of his death.

Gene Bartow didn’t like Gilbert’s power over the UCLA program under Wooden, instead of just going along with it as others did. Later Gilbert was closer with Brown and Farmer as Gilbert aged.

Gilbert both enticed recruits, kept players from transferring during the Wooden era.

More than 45 people connected to UCLA said Gilbert’s dealings were at their worst in the 1960’s and 70’s under Wooden.

From 1964-1977 UCLA had twice as many first round draft picks as the next highest college team. Lots of talent.

Prior to Gilbert at UCLA, Wooden won 20 games six times in 15 seasons. With Gilbert, Wooden’s teams won 28 or more games ten of the next 12  seasons.

Wooden was a good coach that took advantage off the court as well as on the court with his front court players and no three point line.

Thank you for the information it appears the Indiana program will never be happy and sooner or later might have trouble finding a coach to risk a good mid major position to coach a Indiana program with unreasonable expectations.

I think a lot of Hoosier fans were on the fence with Crean's firing or supported keeping him.

The few I know were well aware that his firing said more about how fickle their fanbase is than Crean's coaching ability or performance. That said, Crean needs to get things going ASAP in Georgia to bolster that point, in what seems to be a pivotal 3rd season there.

it is Wake Forest

Good hire for WF, Lower level D1 star. ETSU seems to find these coaches. Certainly payed his dues with coaching stints in the junior colleges and assistant at numerous schools with the last one with Marshall.

They don’t care. They know he’ll put Iona on the BB map. If I were them, though, I’d watch him like a hawk. Going to be interesting to see the level of recruits he gets w/o having the $$$ or big time names behind him that he had at UL and UK.

-so UofL today, I guess this means NCAA will be dropping various hammers on KU tomorrow, UNC on Wed and Duke on Thursday, right?

Didn’t Kansas already receive their notice prior to season? I thought they were going the deny and fight it route which appears to be the smart decision.

-I thought about using a blue font but figured it would be understood given the schools mentioned and the rapid fire nature of the "disclosures"

Banty reply. I didn’t realize the others had received similar notices beyond Kansas.

Yes I believe so. I also think the FBI was (is)  involved .

Seven schools have publicly acknowledged NCAA Notices of Allegations:

NC State: Two Level-I violations

Louisville (on probation), Oklahoma State, South Carolina: One Level-I violation

USC and TCU also received one, but didn't reveal allegations.

So this makes Kansas #1?

Pitino fallout in the A10

One week after Louisville received a Notice of Allegations from the NCAA in the Brian Bowen pay-for-play case, La Salle has parted ways with former Louisville associate head coach Kenny Johnson.

Johnson could face a show-cause that will keep him from coaching for a period of time, sources said.

“Kenny Johnson is no longer a member of our men’s basketball staff,” La Salle said in a statement. “Per University policy, we will not comment further on this personnel matter.

“The recent Notice of Allegations released by the NCAA was related to Johnson’s tenure on the coaching staff at the University of Louisville. The substance of these alleged violations is in no way connected to his tenure at La Salle University.

“La Salle Athletics is committed to promoting an environment of compliance to the highest standard of ethical conduct within its department.

Corey Frazier would be a great addition to the SLU bench. The guy is a player development specialist. Top local players flock to him to get better. As one of the coaches for BBE I’m sure he’s made tons of contacts with top club coaches across the country, which should give him a leg up in recruiting. He checks all the boxes in my mind.
